Well put guys and for the record simply pick a tier ten player
that knows how to play. You dont pick a schmoe thats just common
sense. If i were in a platoon setup like this with chance of
being in tier 10.I wouldnt want a caller that has never been
there b4.Hell he will be screaming where do i shoot the e3
LMAO.But i agree with Phunk also total-communication works as
well. "YO SWAG" I would say it sounds like a standard
bouncing recon mission, with intermitten 3-2 staggared advance
with a defensive perimeter on arrival until entire team is
present.2 always move 3 always watch.Alternating twos between
the four.Td on late arrival SWAG?

I'd know what you meant as well Swag. Communication is key I
platoon best with people that call well. There is always room
for improvement. I'm as guilty as anyone of doing my own thing
when I get frustrated. I do think I have good situational
awareness and always try to exploit the opfors weaknesses as
they develop. I also think it's a skill people can find
difficult to develop. I work in an environment where thinking
on my feet and responding to situations quickly is a matter of
survival for me and my colleagues. That helps me I think.
This is a great discussion and I very much enjoy hearing other
people's views. I actually think we play well together Swag.
You may disagree!!!!

To be honest, if I'm not getting paid I really don't want
someone telling me what to do. Sure could turn into a "I know
more than you" or "You got me killed" story :grenade: I do
think this works when niche friendships are established through
several games played together. Skill levels are established and
trust is earned.

I platoon best with people I know best for sure hotdog. I think
you may be missing the point slightly 'knowing best' or 'telling
people what to do' don't come into it for me. It's about
keeping each other informed of what you're doing/ what you're
facing etc. Some people are good at it other's not so much. I
find platooning with four other people who remain virtually
silent frustrating and largely pointless. It doesn't often
happen in all honesty but when it's like that I either platoon
elsewhere or fly solo. We all have our own play styles etc.
Some work well together some don't. I don't think anyone is
wrong particularly. I don't always like the way other people
play. I'm sure they feel the same way about me. It doesn't
bother me in the slightest. I just try to have fun.

I may have misinterpreted the "caller" idea and fire
assignments. Pertinent information would only be of value if
there is a open mic to relay such information and others can
decipher what is pertinent. It takes practice to know what is
needed to be known. On the competitive edge, I like listening.
If I say something, I see it as a value needed to known. I play
for fun most often, so hearing about the tank to my left I saw
coming from a mile away is no big deal. Although these comments
often distract me from the plan in formulation. My play style
in most tanks is shredding, i'm in, i'm out. To the left flank
then maybe to the right flank. If I see a value to hold a
flank, I fight to the death. I never push unless the timer is
running out or I'm being flanked. In my experience when you
platoon with good players, we get to experience a healthy win
percentage. Honing skills can only happen when equally good
players are matched against us. 5 x 5 I believe is helping
establish this.

I totally agree bud. When I regularly played 7v7 it was a far
more rewarding and tactical experience for me. We played one
evening for about 6 hours and lost 2 battles. I'll call
targets when I play if people knew it was there that's great if
they didn't I may just save their bacon or conversely them
informing me may be to my advantage. The point I'm getting at
is the benefit of working together in the platoon. Any practice
we can gain now will prove an advantage if team or clan battles
arrive. I can't participate in our league battles due to the
time difference. But I can imagine it's great fun.

First and foremost, thank you for all the great comments. Some
things I would like to add. This wouldn't be a set up in which
one doesn't volunteer for. I would never presume to order some
one around that didn't want to be. In fact I would personally
feel overwhelmed in the position of Platoon leader. All I was
thinking of was all the lone wolfing I do and wondering what
would happen if the team around me knew that shooting the tracks
off any tank charging me would give me that .5 seconds to reload
my tank killer cannon. Or perform any of the little tricks and
tactics that make a winning effort.
We are all platoon leaders. A few button taps and you're a
platoon leader, but only the good platoon leaders will have
followers. I believe that the community here would be able to
sort out for themselves who if anyone they would enjoy having as
a platoon leader. I can't stress this next part enough; this
only works with mature leaders and followers.
I wait for invites to platoon. If I felt confident enough to
lead one then I would send invites. I don't talk alot about
non-game related topics, so I can be quiet. And I still hate on
the Jumbo. Again Thank you all.

I wasn't going to comment on this topic due to my Recruit status
and basic n00bness to WoT, but I would like to re-mention one
thing that has been brought up already, if only to drive home
the point. Those with prior service and basic military knowledge
will understand what I'm about to say, and that's Intel, aka
Information, about the Opfor's hardware inventory, positions,
and intent. Communication is key in any type of engagement - I
experience this every year playing paintball (there is real pain
involved). Teams that don't communicate get overrun quickly.
Someone calling out opfor positions in relation to his
teammate's positions is, imo, an asset. Many a time I've seen
people get tunnel vision and get snuck up on. It's happened to
all of us, and will happen again. A little warning, such as
"Hey, Bill, watch that VK creeping up your 5 o'clock!" can go a
long way to keeping a teammate in the game. I do that sort of
thing out of habit, while trying not to be redundant.
I do know I need to cut down on idle chatter during a match,
whether at the very beginning or during. Those that have
platooned with me can attest to that.
n00b out...

Right Maddog, I played with a grizzled grunt the other day who
sang out "contact...left" and gave a brief description of the
tanks he was facing.
That was refreshing and welcome to me. Sometimes we all
bullshit too much while the reds creep onto our base.
I like casual play but would also like to get a little more
intel and direction in the game-at-hand
Noob out*

Have to admit I hated the long load times for the 7 man platoons
as match making was terrible, but finding us on a map with out
seven against seven reds was great. Knowing we had a balanced
crew we could then control the entire tactical run of the map
without having to worry about the "green factor".
One of my favorites was Prok map. Reds had a seven man team with
three Arty. The plan was simple enough. Rush the center hill,
pop the Arty and we have a large numerical advantage on the
survivors!
