Platooning Status?
DIR By: AskingOregon7

Hello All. I really haven't been keeping up on the forum so I
apologize if this is on here somewhere. When I first joined the
clan there was a questionnaire on the type of platooning a
member was interested in. There may have been 5 or 6 choices? I
think I picked a more casual setting. Now that I feel more
confident in my play style I was wondering if there would be an
opportunity to change to a more structured platooning style?
I'm thinking of a platoon leader that determines the direction,
type of tanks, etc. Something like "We need three mediums, one
heavy and one TD and we all go left". In addition if said
platoon leader was a "caller" for the rest of the platoon, for
example directing concentrated fire and firing assignments. Of
course it would help if said leader was fully versed in all
weakpoints and maps, but just the organization would be great.
Thanks for your comments.

I've never platooned anything like that so far. It's normally
someone picks a tier, we take whatever tank we want and go from
there. It's next to impossible for one person IMHO to tell
others what tanks they should be driving for several reasons, #1
being you have no clue what the match making gods have planned
for you.
As for strategies and map knowledge some are better than others
and a few are just batshit crazy (Bert).

I agree SWAG. However when going 'bat shit crazy' I usually do
so knowing exactly what I'm getting myself into!! I make it work
far more often than it should too!

AskingOregon7 is exactly right. Even though know one likes to be
told what to do,"myself included".I hav run many games with
Total Carnage,War,WOT Aces and a few other top-brass teams.His
post is exactly how they dominate their matches.First and
foremost is the caller. Then a delegation of roles and
vehichles.Take it how you will but he is right on the money.A
great caller doesnt mean your best player. In my opinion its the
clan member with the biggest diversity of tier 10s.He should
know all the weakspots and be able to point them out.To assure
coordinated fire as targets are presented.Another requirement
should be games played hence map knowledge and awareness. The
rest is just delegation of the forces.Just my observation and
experiences playing with them. Two great callers would be
Sparky74(10-10s) and Steampunkpagan.(map knowledge 21,160games)
ROLL-OUT

Leaves me out I guess because I ain't got no 10s
Just tanked in real life but WOT is nothing like the real deal.
would have paid cash money for a repair kit button when we threw
track. :scream:

Sorry about the manual labor with the tracks SWAG.Only reason
you pick a player with alot of tens is he has 1st hand exp
fighting all the in game vehicles.Makes for a great caller
knowledge of the weakspots. Two heavies 2 mediums and a td all
slowly rolling together one direction firing in tandem at one
target is devastating to say the least.Even better when someone
says t57 heavy up high at 10oclock everyone shoot lower
glacius.and t57 goes boom

I think it might be fun to try a couple games the way
Askingoregon7 describes them. I'd give a try as a follower not a
caller....

When we ran 7 man platoons I did this alot. As previously stated
it does/can work well. However whether you have tier tens or
not is totally irrelevant. I've met people with plenty of tier
tens that haven't got a flying idea what they're doing. Game
knowledge is what matters and also the ability to react to
whatever situations unfold whilst in battle. Of course some
people are just better at this than others. It is difficult for
one person to dictate throughout a battle. Everyone needs to be
relaying information effectively for it to work. I regularly
ran with a guy that was one of the top ten players in the world
at the time. In 7v7 games we dominated regularly. The ability
to work as a good team was key as Sgt said. It was great fun
too. I often find my platoon mates don't communicate enough
when we play. We're all different of course.

 < note smiley face here
If I said we needed to work in a bounding over watch as we moved
across Karelia's right side from south spawn to ensure we had
covering fire and set up a defensive line at the first major
rock line how many Offers would even know what I was talking
about?
I run up to Tier VIII and see everything in the game as well.
The thing is I have to study the weak spots of everything up to
ten because I like running mediums and need to know where to hit
them to survive. When you run under gunned you have to know how
to get those crippling and killing shots in. I've never bought
premium time so I earn my grinds the hard way I don't buy into
the tier 10 elitism as the end all be all of tank-edumication(TM
patent pending ).
To be a good leader you need to know your teams strengths and
weaknesses and the tanks that they choose. Knowledge of maps,
cover, concealment, best places to get into a hull down, as well
as knowing where the REDs can flank your positions from. Then
add to that MM and team green stupidity.
