       Platooning, my confession, my questions...
   DIR By: ALLEYCAT 67

       ---------------------------------------------------------
So here goes my OF&F platooning confession.
While I have platooned with strangers I have met in various
battles I have never, not once, ever platooned with another OF&F
clan member ( I feel the shame).
One of the reasons for this is I’m not sure of how my game play
style would work with others and I don’t want to upset anyone.
By game play style I mean that I am a little Impatient and can’t
sit long before looking for a battle, take risks...sometimes
this works, other times it gets me back to the garage rather
quickly. This may be from playing lone wolf too long....lol
Another reason is I truly don’t like bothering people. I’m one
of those people that when someone steps on my foot I say
       sorry....lol
So with this in mind here are a couple platooning questions I
       have.
Etiquette, What is proper platooning etiquette? Is there an
etiquette? Does one member normally call the shots etc or does
everyone just take off and do their own thing? When you join a
platoon does one say “hey folks here I am, where do you want
me?” or does that show that I don’t know what I’m doing???
       (which I don’t...lol)
Commitment, Not sure about anyone else but my house can be
unpredictable. The doorbell, the phone, kids, friends coming to
drink my beer...Is it really frowned upon to get into a couple
games then have to take off for whatever reason?
Very interested in hearing opinions from other new members and
       veterans alike.
       Cheers
       ALLEYCAT 67
       Allan

When I first started playing, I always deferred to the veteran
OFFers I was platooned with because I was looking to get better,
learn the maps ,and, frankly, because I kinda stunk at the game.
After you platoon with the same people for a while (I know
saying this might be taboo for a few people :child:) you learn
how they play. Where they like to go, how they like to play,
etc and the three of you will kind of act in concert with one
       another.
Often times, we will sit for the first 10 seconds of the map to
see where the rest of the lemmings go and make sure the team is
covered on all fronts. If we need to spread out in different
directions due to coverage or the types of tanks we are playing
we will let each other know where we are going. If one of us
want to scout for the others, they will let the others know
where they are going so they can focus their fire.
So there isn't a "leader" per se. We usually just work together
as a team because we typically know what the others are going to
do once we get into the map.
Edit: And, Alley, don't be shy about joining fellow OFFers. We
all have different tactics and play-styles. Believe me, you're
not the only one that doesn't have the patience to sit around
       and snipe.

As far as etiquette, the general rule of thumb is if an OFF'er
is lone wolfing and isn't looking to platoon then they set their
status to away/busy/ or appear offline. Otherwise send a
platoon invite. Also Most of us have no problem with someone
popping into an existing platoon. If you do, I would recommend
saying Hey when you first come in, especially if the platoon is
in battle, since they may not even notice that you have popped
in. Once in most will look to bring that person in, by forming
one of three, or divvying up the current party to make sure no
one is solo. Once caveat is if the party/ platoon is grinding
higher tier stuff and you cant match up, but that should come
       out in the wash.
Also, sometimes the crosstalk can get pretty annoying, so it may
be that the party/ platoons may split into discrete parties so
we are not shouting over each other.
Hope that helps. I will put a Platooning Etiquette FAQ together
for the Clan and post it later today.

When I platoon -- no matter if it's an OFF n00b or veteran -- I
prefer that everyone get a chance to pick a strategy on a given
map, and we rotate picking tiers. Of course, we tend to cover
the flank that is left open, as three of us is better than none.
:-) It also depends on the types of tanks folks play. I like
arty and TDs and don't mind sitting back and sniping depending
on the map. That works well when teamed up with scouts or
mediums willing to push. So tank selection is also key -- you
want tanks that can work together or compliment each other.
Doesn't always work that way, but that should be the goal most
(though maybe not all) of the time.
Oh, and one thing I will note: Just because someone is an OFF
veteran doesn't mean they're a WoT vet. For example: I am NOT
the guy to look to if you wanna learn how to play, as I'm kinda
average. I'm the guy who can support a better player and
occasionally have a really good game. But there SO MANY on here
who are better to learn from, so don't confuse OFF status
       interfere with WoT skills. :-D

Good information folks. Thanks for the great reply's.
Guess it just boils down to getting my a$$ into a platoon and
       having some fun.

I'd agree with pretty much all Shard said about there not being
a platoon leader per se but rather all trying to work together
whether they stick together on the battlefield or not.
The one thing I'd add is that communication is key! If you're
going to stay silent in a platoon - not tell your platoon-mates
what you're facing, where you are and how you're doing - you may
       as well be running solo.

As already stated above. I've yet to meet an OFF'er that minds
people dropping into established parties. We all tend to do that
to one another. Its not uncommon for maybe 10-15 clan mates to
pass through the party over the course of the evening. also once
we platoon up as stated we all tend to check the lie of the land
before we decide to move out and engage them pesky reds!!! As
most of my clan mates know I'm quite shy and rretiring on the
battlefield. If ramming the first enemy you see is considered
so!!!! See you on the battlefield Alleycat.

I am not an OFF vet. I still don't understand/grasp the platoon
concept. While I was playing solo last night, couldn't get the
Platoon menu/window to pop up. Suddenly, when I selected one of
my premium tanks (I try to rotate among my tank collection), the
Platoon menu/window popped up where one can add two more platoon
       members before launching.
This is where my muddled mind is confused. Since I was running
solo, I had my Xbox set up for Away/Busy/Appear Offline (one of
those, don't recall which). If I then select one of the Empty
Platoon member slots, can I invite a Party/Friend into the
Platoon? I thought one can't do this if all of the Privacy
settings are set up so a player can run Solo?
       Thanks for any advice.
Been running solo since I would be online, play 1 or 2 battles,
then walk away for awhile (due to downsizing I am looking for a
new position --- we are not in a real war so can't apply there
:salute:). Worse yet, I am processing the remaining folks to
either remain or downsize along with me --> so I apologize for
       not platooning.
