       OFFling and Sherman

From WWII Days in Rockford, IL - September 2013
I believe it is an M4A2, but not totally sure on that. Should
       have got more pix :P
First pic is of my 17yr old (16 in pic) wearing her
grandfather's Class A jacket from WWII. He was Infantry attached
to 7th Armoured, and was wounded in '44 during the Battle of the
Buldge while riding with 4 squadmates on the back of a Sherman
as they were headed across an open field. An 80mm mortar round
exploded on top of the turret, killing one, wounding 2, and 2
were only shaken up. My father-in-law lost an eye, and had
shrapnel in his head until the day he died.
If I'm not mistaken, it looks as though some extra armour plate
has been welded over where the ammo rack is located. Or, maybe
that has always been there, not sure...

Have a good friend that used to live in Rockford that did WWII
Reenactment. Told me about a bad experience he had making
       "grenades" from film canisters.

Yes, went to Lowell the last year they held their event...2012
it was, I believe. That was a nice venue, except we got lost in
the maze that is the IL/IN stateline area southeast of Kankakee

Heard it was cancelled last year. Let me know if your doing
something in the area. My son loves seeing that stuff... and so
       do I.

Yeah, me the wife an daughter go whenever we can. You should
come up to the Rockford event in September, if you haven't
already (even if you have!) - largest in the mid-west every
year. Vendors, ie, book/movie/DVD sellers, uniforms,
memorabilia, food, a USO dance on Saturday night, battles and
skirmishes all day. Just tons of fun and lots of really cool
stuff! One outfit out of southern IL brings a Locust, M5 Stuart,
M75 Gun Carriage, and various other pieces of armour. In 2013,
the had a fully rebuilt Russian T-34 that was a gift from Gorby
to the US back in the late 80s. That thing is HUGE!
