       Tank crew switching

Not to sound like a newbie, have over 3k battles, but I have
never cross-trained a crew. I have mostly elite tanks, just 1
more french tier 4 to make every tank tier 4 and under elite. I
always put a new crew in each tank I buy. I am starting to
think this is/was a mistake. I have premium tanks but have
never trained elite crews in the premiums. Is there a benefit
to training elite crews in premiums. I have 64 tanks with 64
different crews. I have only a few tanks that are on thier
second perk. I feel I am playing at a disadvantage because
everyone seems to have 4+ perks with some having 7 or 8. Did I
do it wrong. Should I have used the same crew (i.e light tank
crew in each new light tank) instead of a new crew in every
tank. just asking for a little advice. :scream:

You're not alone...some my crews are barely functioning morons
who aren't yet a full step above chimps.
Crews that I had from launch I have promoted up through the
tiers...my T32 crew has driven every tank on the US tree to get
there. This has given them about 6 or 7 skills/perks and they
are pretty good. Part of this may be the accelerated crew
training that WG erroneously implemented ( the crews were
       training too fast)
In comparison, my Russkie crews are very poor with only about 3
skills on the IS. I think WG corrected the training factor
around the same time as the USSR tanks were launched. Every crew
since then are pretty much shit-kickers.
This promoting crews up to the next tier does give me a problem
with elite tanks having no crews. Why can't I just clone the
crew into a new tank? :pissed:

tricky, you present an interesting question since it sounds like
you've kept every tank you've purchased. So I'm not sure moving
crews would have benefited you very much without spending lots
of $$ along the way *see long winded thought below*. The one way
you could possibly make up some of those perks now is if you
have premium tanks. Since Premium crews can be moved back and
forth between the premium and reg tank for $0 once trained you
could increase the rate of perk acquirement if you play that
pair of tanks regularly. I did this with my TOG~Cromwell and
also TOG~AT-8 since the TOG is my "go to" silver making tank.
You could do this with multiple tanks where the reg tank crew is
moved to the premium (which will cost silver/gold the first
time) and then moved back to the reg tank & move in another crew
       (i.e. COMET~TOG; CROMWELL~TOG; AT-8~TOG; etc) using whatever
premium tank you like to play regularly but really only works if
you play that premium tank quite a bit in my opinion.
       *long winded thought*
When you get a new tank you of course have 3 options:
       1) you can transfer a crew fully trained for 1000 Gold (I did
this only once when moving from T-29 to T-32), this continues
your crews perk advancement without any delay.
       2) you can transfer 75% crew for "x" silver. This option slows
down your perk progression several matches until the crew is
fully trained in that tank and at lower tiers if you don't keep
that tank you will likely move that crew to the next tank about
the same time they are fully trained (personal experience) & not
realize any real gain in perks.
       3) you can recruit a 50% crew for free but have quite a ways to
go before you start working on any perks. (this is what I do
when grinding the low tier part of a line that I don't plan to
keep the tanks along the way - i.e. en-route to French ELC that
I just picked up last night) and I end up with a lot of
unassigned crews that I eventually dismiss.
For me I just recruit free crews when burning through low tiers
of a line II-V and start transferring crews after that once the
time spent in each tank is long enough to acquire some skills &
see the benefit of transferring, but I also sell most of my
tanks along the way (unlike what you've done) and only keep the
ones I really like. I think the only reason any of my crews have
4+ perks (which is only a few of them) is because I paused on a
tank before buying the next one in the line (AT-8, T-20, T-29,
CROMWELL). I paused partially because I liked the fully upgraded
tank so much I couldn't put it down and because the next one
always seemed to be just out of reach $$ wise (I also started
waiting for the "tank focus" at tier VII/VIII so I could get the
next one at 30% discount since I had 3-4 lines all at Tier
VI/VII). Also seems like every time I'm nearing that next big
purchase WoT adds to the tank tree and I get distracted by the
       new not so shiny toys.
In summary I think you could have seen some benefit around tier
VII & up by moving the crew and recruiting a new one for the
current tank which by tier X should get you a few perks but the
rest of your line would still have 0-1 perk each. Not sure if
this sets your mind at ease at least a little bit or not.
Sorry for the novel but you got my brain on overdrive with your
question. I'm interested to know if anyone has a counter-point
to my thought process on this.

One thing that I do if I want to move a crew up to the next tank
is keep them in the previous one and finish training the current
skill/perk before crewing up the next tank.
Don't know why. Don't know if it's even good practice.

       Well it depends... :poke:
I just keep the same crew in the same line as I progress up the
tiers. AYUH! I pay gold to bump them to the next level tank.
So, I have my American Med,TD and Heavy line crews with 22,16
       and 14 perks respectively.
I also use my premium tanks to train the crews and grind for
silver, most assuredly during bonus events for crew exp
       :headbang:
I've done this for my German and Soviet lines as well and it
always gives me a crew with at least 8 perks to switch around.
Now some of my favoritew tanks have ther own crews... My E8 has
it's own crew with 6 perks, but I run it(crew) in the Fury as
well to train them up quicker. Soooo...
I would bump the crews up the line rather than assign a new crew
for every tank, if you don't mind dropping a little gold.
       :peace:
