The Hunt for a Flute (Ren, Midday, Open)
By: Ren Higashi Date: July 7, 2014, 6:04 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ren wandered through the village, hoping to find what she was
looking for. In order for her training to get better she'd need
to work on her sound jutsu. And in order to do that she'd need a
flute.

Akio found himself near Ren. He glanced in her direction, she
seemed to be looking for something. He decided, though he hated
any form of friendship, having an ally near the chuunin exams
wouldn't be the worst idea. "Looking for something?"

A voice broke her thoughts and Ren looked up. A boy was looking
at her as she browsed by an open shop. "I need a flute" she
said, looking at the boy curiously. "Would you happen to know if
I could find one here in town?"

"Music has never been my thing. I'm not sure if the mist was
ever renowned for musical talent. If there was a place to get
one, it would most likely be at an odds and ends shop." Akio
glanced towards a market sector of the village and started
walking towards it, motioning for Ren to follow. Favors also
weren't his thing, but he didn't want to make any enemies going
in to the exams.

Ren nodded. "I thought finding one here would be a long shot but
since I was here already it could hurt to look around.." He
motioned her to follow him and she did. "Um, thank you for
helping me." She smiled softly at him

"Not a problem." This was, of course, a huge lie. Helping others
without receiving something in return was a huge problem. and
Akio was taking a completely wild guess on the exams. He wasn't
even sure if his sensei would allow him to take the tests,
though he was sure passing was as easy as getting in. He glanced
towards a nearby store. "Perhaps in there?" The store seemed
like a junk shop more than anything else. There was a battered
rug in the front of the building, and a shop keeper mindlessly
humming along to a tune Akio didn't recognize but hated. "I'll
wait out here, that store doesn't want me near them." He only
half-lied. If he was near the store, they wouldn't want him near
it after what he'd do. Music wasn't his thing.

Ren shot him a curious look but nodded and walked into the shop.
The shop keeper glanced at her for a moment before going back to
what he was doing. If there was going to be a flute in this
village, this would be the place to find it. It resembled a pawn
shop filled with useless knickknacks and trinkets. There seemed
to be no order for the items. Everything was just there. The
sunlight caught on something in the corner and she couldn't help
but look. "That looks like..." She very slowly made her way to
the item and tried to keep a straight expression. Looking over
at the shopkeeper she quickly snatched the item and stuffed it
into her shirt before quickly making her way outside. "We should
go" she said, grabbing the boy gently by the wrist and
continuing to speed down the street.

Akio glared off in the distance. He knew the look she had.
Thievery was not something that was new to him, but he thieves
made him feel uncomfortable. Still, what happened, happened, and
he wasn't going to turn her in or anything. "Hold on." Freeing
his hand, Akio made a handsign, looking towards the shop keep
chasing them. "I think it's time you took a nap," he mumbled. A
few feathers fell on the shop keeper and the shop keeper fell on
the floor, asleep. The jutsu would only last a few minutes, but
that would be more than enough time for a ninja to get away.

As soon as they were out of harms way, Ren stopped to catch her
breath. "I can't believe they pawned this" Ren said angrily as
she took out her flute. She had left it when she left her home
in Kiri to be independent. "The only valuable thing in my life
and they just sold it." She frowned and looked at Akio. "Sorry
about that... Thank you for helping me."

"Don't mention it." Akio stared at the flute. He wondered what
value it had. His assumption was that it was purely sentimental,
but in the ninja world you never knew. A "purely sentimental"
flute could actually be some complex, lethal poisoning device.
"So, what's special about the flute?"
