Septimus smiled a bit. "There's no need to apologize, Asena. I
offered you my home, you weren't taking advantage." He reached
up to grab the hand she placed on his cheek. "I would like to
pick up where we left off as well. If you think you're ready,
       that is."
Gods knew, Asena would never fully recover from Damon. Still,
there was nothing saying she couldn't be with Septimus while
honoring her old love. But they might need to take it slow, to
make sure that nothing felt uncomfortable or like a disservice
to the man's memory. "Let's start with lunch, alright? And then
after that we'll relax together, maybe read or spar before
dinner. And then we'll eater dinner and drink a bit. One step at
       a time, okay?"

Asena eased the moment he agreed with her thinking on the issue
of staying and figuring out where things stood and could go
between them. While Asena was hardly the most patient of people,
she knew she had to take things slow and feel out what they both
needed and what she could handle. She was still hurting from
Damon's loss, but she was trying to give herself room to grow
and heal. So much of her life was spent chasing goals and
preparing for a future that was now up in the air and changing.
Perhaps for now she should just take a moment to be with herself
and figure out what she wanted now.
His talks of taking things slow made her smile and nodded in
agreement. The steps he provided made her hum in thought as she
considered what to do for relaxation. Just what did she want to
do? "I agree. I think that's fair and smart for the both of us.
I have a tendency to rush into things without thinking...Well
you know that." She told him before she slipped away to go look
at the book he had at his desk. She hefted the larger book into
her hands and flicked over the pages of laws and explanations of
the civil proceedings in association to those laws. She chewed
her lip momentarily, finding that it would be difficult for her
to make herself sit down to read this, but she could endeavor to
try. "I did interrupt your light reading, Septimus. I'd hate to
pull you from it. Perhaps you could point me in the right
direction of a good starting point? I probably should get used
to reading a bit more since I'm sure that's an expectation for
the job I want. I think that would be more relaxing than
scrapping on the patio again." She told him before she did give
a bit of a look of playful consideration. "Or if you're up to
it, I could get you teach me a bit more of hand to hand? Our
last sparring session made me realize I'm getting rusty at
fighting without a sword. My expertise in fighting doesn't go
beyond a bar room brawl. I know Truce members don't exactly get
in fist fights, but you can never be too careful right?" She
gave a shrug, since she could honestly go for either thing.
Honestly, she would prefer the sparring, but felt she should
enjoy an activity that he found relaxing and she was fully
       capable of enjoying as well.

"It's a dangerous world we live in. Even politicians have to
defend themselves on occasion." Septimus smiled. "I can show you
some of my unarmed fighting tricks."
He moved to place a marker in his book and put it back on its
shelf. "I'll admit, I've been neglecting my exercise since you
       left. I've read a lot more than I've trained. I haven't even
tended my garden much." He stretched and groaned as tendons in
his arms and back popped and cracked. For sure, he'd sat in a
       chair too often lately.

Asena nodded when Septimus told her this was a dangerous time.
Wasn’t that true? If already one person she knew was
assassinated, she could guarantee it could happen again.
However, she dared an assassin to try her. She would make sure
they rued the day they messed with her. Getting off of that
thought, she let herself admire him as he stretched, a teasing
smile coming to her as he stated he had been reading instead of
practicing. It was the same on her end. Well, reading legal
documents, sleeping, crying, comfort tea and foods, and pulling
herself together, but little practice in hitting things with a
sword. She knew better than to provoke her anger when she was
upset as that could cause her Magis to become volatile. Asena
wasn’t about to burn down half of Alessandria over a few sword
stances and practice on a tree.
To Septimus’s benefit, he didn’t look like he missed a day and
Asena let her eyes wander a little over his frame. She blushed
at where her mind went, but covered it up by looking away and
giving a light chuckle. “Well it doesn’t show, so lucky you.”
She told him before her stomach gave a rumble of protest.
“Let’s go see what they have around here for lunch.” She took
his hand, pulling him along with her with an excited look. “If
It’s anything like the omelet it has to be delicious.” And it
was. Even though it was simply a sandwich and some fruits, Asena
found herself enjoying every bite and enjoyed being full and
satisfied afterwards. She took a bit of time to relax and let
her food settle before she was pestering Septimus about that
lesson. Playfully of course but she was sure she could be
annoying when she wanted to be. When she finally coaxed him out
to the patio again, Asena went about stretching some to be sure
she was limber. It was off not to have her sword in her hand,
but she could get over the feeling easily. “Alright, what first?
Oh that fake out move is pretty cool or the one where you trip
people—or—well all of it is pretty good.” She rambled with a
       happy little grin.

Septimus smiled at Asena's eagerness to spar and train. If one
couldn't better themself in every way, what was the point? He
carefully removed his shirt and hung it over the rack that
Lelasa had dragged outside. She had scolded him enough about
just throwing his fine clothing on the ground that he'd decided
it prudent to acquiesce and hang them up for sparring.
"Why don't we start with the basics? Walk before you run, block
before you punch." He stepped back so his feet and shoulders
were in a straight line pointed at Asena and brought up his
fists, one tucked near his chest with the other held cocked in
       front of him.
"This style of martial art I'm going to show you focuses on two
core tenets: Blocking is the first one." He swept the hand in
front of him to the side, opening up his palm and holding his
       fingers together as he did.
"The second is putting your whole body behind every movement."
The fist he hadn't blocked with dropped to his right hip, palm
facing upwards. He twisted as he threw the punch, the wrist
turning over at the last moment as he delivered the strike.
"It's a style that mostly focuses on kicks. I don't kick much
myself, but the core of the art is solid. Block first, then
       retaliate with a full-body attack."

Asena was eager to get to work as sparring was something
physical she could do to let go of these nerves. Lately, she had
let so much pile up on her plate and in her life that she missed
simple things like this. Just getting to put some of that pent
up energy into something that made her feel powerful. Septimus
was able to best her twice now and she wanted to make sure she
was strong enough to best someone else should she end up winning
this seat on the Truce and needed to take care of herself.
She let him show her the stances, meanwhile Asena tying her hair
away from her face and pausing near him to get a better look.
She kept a good distance away as she watched him walk her
through the stances thing, noting the subtle changes to his
stances versus her own. In this way he was sturdy and firm,
meaning his attacker would meet resistance when they went to
strike. She paced a bit around him to get a look at what he was
doing, trying to stay out of his way but close enough to learn.
Was it bad she got a bit distracted in his demo? Watching the
movement of his arms had let her eyes wander. This training was
also a great excuse to get Septimus shirtless, so that was a win
win. Even if she didn’t have to divulge that win. It probably
would fluster him and just ruin any chance of her gaining
knowledge from his teaching. “Mhm. The basics... right.“ She
muttered as her eyes flicked over his frame to land on the way
he held his arms. She sidled you beside him, trying to mimic
what he was doing to get the stance and action right. “So a
block first.” She slowly tried to mimic the sweep of his arm,
but it was notably a bit robotic as she hadn’t really tácticas a
moment like that before. She tried again, this time with a
little more grace but she was banking on the fact with a little
practice she could get it down. “I know size wise I can’t take
heavy hits, but this will help deflect some right?” She asked
before giving him a rather cheerful look. “Show me that one
again. I think I got it.”

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Septimus repeated the motion, smiling. "That's right. You don't
want to try and do a hard block of an opponent's punch. You're
probably smaller than most people you'll be fighting, though you
no doubt have excellent upper body strength from swinging a
sword around. I'd say you could probably pull it off, but it's
not recommended. This will push their punch aside, instead. Like
with swords, you can do a directional parry that pushes the
blade aside and allows you to counter, or you can do a straight
block that keeps both swords from immediately acting. If you're
in a position to choose, choose to parry and strike."
He demonstrated again, sweeping his left hand to the side as if
blocking a punch, and then using the motion of that to twist
into a punch. "They make new trainees and younger students clap
right before hand while practicing, that way they're in the
habit of keeping both hands up close to one another."
Septimus let his own gaze wander as he looked down at Asena. She
was something else. He didn't doubt that she had muscle hidden
under that shirt. She'd been a Nomad for how many years? She
must have honed her body like a knife. The thought of stopping
the training session here so he could explore that body was...
       tempting.
But, no, he could control himself. She'd just gotten back and
this was important. He could at least wait until after the
training to suggest another dip in the pond with her.

Asena gave a happy grin at the praise, very self satisfied with
herself for speculating right. The compliments and comparisons
to sword fighting were very helpful and gave her more of a
perspective. She learned to use a sword at such a young age that
it was really like an extension of herself. Fighting hand to
hand was not as efficient for a young girl, even one that could
burst into flames. “Got it. Parry and strike. I’ve done that
before with my sword, but somehow it seems easier when I have a
weapon between me and my opponent.” She knew she had an issue
with patience and liked to be the aggressor in any fight.
However, with people that knew how to wait and strike, she often
found herself in a pinch or precarious situations. It was why
Septimus was able to corner her before.
When he demonstrated again, she tried to mimic and ended up
getting into a bit of a rhythm with it. A pleased noise came
from her as she got the sweep down and finally the strike. The
news that students clap afterwards made her nod and try that. It
threw off her rhythm briefly, drawing a frustrated huff from
her. She tried again and eventually got that rhythm back again.
A coy look slipped into her features as she moved from beside
Septimus to face him. “Yes! I’ve got it. Let me try blocking
something!” The excitement in her voice was genuine, liking the
fact that she had learned and felt she was ready to apply it.
Again, it was a part of that impatient streak in her, but she
knew Septimus could humor her. “See if you can land a hit,
pretty boy.” She teased, that usual Playful over-confidence
       back.

Septimus smiled. "We'll get a chance to spar, dear. There's more
to teach, first." He considered, then took a stance facing her.
"Though, if you think you'll learn better by doing at each step,
we can do the steps in slow motion." So saying, he threw a mock
punch, one that had no force behind it and gave plenty of time
       to react to it.

The smile and the simple way he called her ‘dear’ sent a thrill
through Asena that she felt bring rise to a blush. She knew it
was a silly and trivial thing to get sentimental over, but she
rather liked the fact she could make him smile. It still didn’t
lessen her resolve to show off what she learned so far, since
she was excited to give it a try. When his face fell into this
thinking look, her face fell slightly into an almost puppy dog
look to try and convince him to humor her. Of course he seemed
to come to that conclusion on his own, which made her
immediately brighten and make sure her stance was right. His
change up to the teaching style was alright with her, even if
seeing the slower punch made her chuckle a little. “Well we both
know I’m a woman of action, Sept. So is it all that surprising I
like my lessons with a little action as well?” She let her mind
sink back into the action of deflecting, which she did in a slow
manner to make sure she had it down. She deflected the slow
motion fist and then used the motion to strike out softly
against him, as he had shown her to do. After a quite a few
rounds of that, on her last strike out she let her hand rest
there, feeling the warm skin beneath her fingers. “Hah, told you
I had it.” She told him a bit breathlessly. She was catching her
breath a bit after the consecutive trails Before she pulled her
hand away. “Now what’s part two? So you block and strike, but
you were able to knock me on my ass once and then pin me the
second time. That wasn’t just a block and strike.”
