"There are thousands of books on law. It's one of the most
tedious subjects in existence." Septimus chuckled. "I read them
as part of my duty to the public. Finding laws that are unfair
to the common people and working to change or eradicate them is
a moral obligation I took on when I stepped into the political
sphere. As for fun, I like to read histories and biographies. It
helps me to understand the state of the world, if I can compare
       it to what came before."
He smiled and kept walking as she commented on the kitchen. "The
chef won't mind if you want to bake something, I'm sure. As my
guest, you have free rein of the house's facilities. Which
brings us to..." He threw open the back door, stepping out onto
a small stone terrace overlooking a sprawling back lawn. "This
patio is where I like to do most of my training. It's roomy
enough, and I can use my Misilm without worrying about displaced
       grass or plants."
The verdant field stretched far back to the stone wall that
surrounded the estate. While well-kept, it was clear that the
lawn hadn't been altered from its natural state; trees dotted
the grass at random and a small pond dominated a good chunk of
the land, though there was a small section of field that had
been fenced off. Septimus pointed to it from where they stood.
"That is my garden. You're free to go look around at the flowers
and take any ripe fruits or vegetables you desire. I tend to go
out there in the mornings and tend to things."
He gestured to a small brick building at the edge of the
terrace. "Training equipment can be found in there. Dummies,
archery butts, and various training weapons. For sparring we
don't need them, but feel free to use them any time."
He considered, his eyes roving over the landscape. "Right. I
think that's the whole tour, then. Shall we get started?" Even
as he spoke he was unbuttoning his jacket, which was rather
rumpled from his night spent leaning on a wall. He tossed it
aside, and his shirt followed quickly, leaving all but his
       forearms bare above the waist.

Ah so he's more academic then... Asena thought as she looked
over the man. His response about studying the laws did resonate
with her, however, and she felt a bit guilty for being so turned
off by the idea of studying all of this. He was right. To make
changes and informed decisions, you needed to be informed on
what was in place so you could fix it. Perhaps, she could use
her time here to put towards that idea of improvement perhaps?
Even if the idea of that kind of study bored her to tears.
However, just like the early days of her training, you never get
better if you don't start. Also, well...She couldn't help but be
slightly impressed he got through so many of these books.
Perhaps she could ask him how he found the patience to get
       through them?
She followed him out to the patio, eyes taking in the open space
curiously. She noted the stone appeared a little scuffed and
cracked in places, perhaps from him using his Magis? She looked
out at the shed he mentioned and made a satisfied noise. She
liked that idea of taking on some training dummies later,
perhaps without witnesses to see her getting her aggression out.
"True. I'd rather take a crack at your cestuses again." She said
as he mentioned not needing that now. She removed her sword from
her waist and was careful to not pay much attention to it. Her
own clothing was suitable to a fight and she could always
replace it later if something got burned or torn. Speaking of
clothing. She did take not that he took off his shirt and found
in their time apart he had gained a bit more bulk. It was
surprising the life of a politician didn't stunt that...She
shook her head and made herself focus. "Alright. I hope you
haven't gotten soft in your time in the lap of luxury Sept. I
promise I'll go easy on you just in case." She teased, even if
she was still sporting a bit of a hangover and was currently
trying to hold back thoughts that the blade in her hand was made
       by Damon.

"If that's how you want to do it, far be it from me to deny
you." Septimus had to grin at Asena's confidence. It was
reminiscent of the other sparring match they'd had years ago.
Now how had that ended again...? Septimus smirked and rushed in.
Just like last time, the sword was a consideration. This time,
however, Septimus wasn't trying to hide his Magis from the
woman. His very approach caused the stone to shudder beneath
       them.
He stopped once he was within reach of her sword. Rather, his
feet stopped. His body twisted, and his fist flew forward in a
       punch towards Asena's stomach.

Asena felt the ground quake beneath her as Septimus came at her.
Right, he used Misilm Magis and she was currently on stone. She
quickly took up a guarded stance, remembering quite well how
quickly he had gotten her on her butt from quick punches. His
feigned movement surprised her, but luckily she was able to haul
her blade in the way to catch the punch. The sound of fist
hitting metal rang out and Asena winced when the force of the
hit caused the edge of the blade to bite into her hand that had
braced the other end for balance. With some effort, she pushed
back against him and at least deflected the punch. She used that
momentum to swing out with the blade before following it up with
an attempt to get him with the pommel of the blade. After all,
she wasn’t trying to truly harm Septimus. Just knock him around
       a little.

Septimus skipped back away from Asena's counterattack and
grinned. "You need to be quicker than that, Lady." He tapped his
foot on the ground and a stone the size of his fist rose up. He
lashed out with one steel-covered fist and the stone exploded,
showering Asena and the area around her in dust and rock
fragments. With that cover, Septimus darted in again to try and
       land a blow.

Asena’s eyes narrowed at his response wondering how the man
could be this cocky suddenly. She brought it up her sword to
attack again, but paused and tensed when she saw a stone get
kicked up. She instantly went on the defensive, expecting the
rock to fly at her. Instead, he shattered it, causing dust to
fly around her. Asena closed her eyes against the dust, coughing
as she inhaled some. Before she could get a solid breath, she
felt a blow land on her side which caused her to curl in on
herself. Damn, that one hurt and she wasn’t looking forward to
getting another. She turned out of the way of an incoming fist
aimed at her stomach and gave him a snicker. “Good one. And
that’s Asena to you, Lord Septimus.” She said around a bit of a
grunt as she felt a bit of her own Magis spiking strangely. She
didn’t feel like she was in danger but for some reason her
temperature was spiking. She took in a breath and lashed out at
him with a sweeping swing, trying to get in close to land a hit
either with the blade or her free fist. He was quick for a man
out of practice and that was going to be at her detriment. After
all, she was trying to spar with the man not kill him in this
situation. She was trying to predict his movements to be sure
she kept her Magis under control. She couldn’t have herself
       going human flame
       On him.

Septimus raised a fist, the sword ringing off of his cestus. The
force of the blow made him take a step to the side to stay
upright. With a grin, he threw a punch with his other hand. He
knew that Asena was holding back; that was the trouble with
swords. You either didn't give it your all or risked killing
people you didn't want dead. The cestus would hurt but generally
wasn't lethal unless you went way too far with it. He probably
should hold back a bit, though. Wouldn't do to break a rib or
bruise Asena too much. No, he would put just enough force into
the punches to help her remember the lesson.
Don't underestimate someone just because they liked to read
       books.

Asena took the licks like a champ since she hardly liked to show
pain or that anyone was getting to her. However, the quick hits
and the lack of gratification was chipping away at her control
over her Magis. Especially when one caught her in the side and
knocked her breathing off kilter. She couldn't help that her
irritation rose, enough so that her hands gave a spark that was
perhaps a sign that she was frustrated With that, she tossed the
sword aside, taking up a stance to start throwing punches
herself. If she wasn't able to fight properly with a sword, it
was useless. She had been disarmed enough, including in the
fight with Melrose, to have picked up some tricks of her own.
Granted, she was usually on fire by now.... "You're quicker than
I remember." She chuckled, as she was still having fun with the
man. When the next round of attacks came, she ducked under a
swing and took that opportunity to aim one at Septimus. However,
when she realized her hands were still a bit hot for that, she
dropped low and attempted to trip him, even if she was hardly
       the most graceful with it.

Septimus eyebrows shot up when Asena tossed her sword aside. Was
she surrendering? No, she took a fighting stance of her own and
threw a punch that slammed into his stomach. He took a
staggering step back, caught off guard. Asena then went low,
       attempting to trip him.
Well, it sort of worked. He lost his balance and fell back, but
his hands came down to catch him, and he rolled back up to his
feet without a pause. Quietly, he undid his cestuses and tossed
them aside. He wouldn't deny himself the fun of a bare-knuckled
fist fight with Asena. What tricks had she picked up over the
years? Where had she learned them?
Septimus, for his part, had learned from a wealth of people --
Gen liked to travel, and Septimus had picked things up in every
city they stopped in. He had learned his preferred style from a
Misilm Magus, a man who had changed from rigid stances for
attacking to practically dancing to dodge in a heartbeat. At one
port, he'd met a woman who had swayed as she fought; Septimus
had tried the strange drunken looking style and found that it
wasn't quite to his liking, though he would use it in
less-deadly fights on occasion to keep his skills sharp.
Most importantly, though, he had met an Elvi woman when he was a
teenager. She had taught him a very important part of fighting
hand-to-hand. One was to utilize longer limbs. She had held him
at bay for hours without him ever getting close enough to hit
her. Septimus was quite a bit taller than Asena, with longer
arms and legs that he hadn't been able to properly utilize
before due to her sword. Now, he would stay back and let her
       approach.
When she did, he would use the second lesson the Elvi had shown
him. He would start using grapples and locks to keep Asena from
fighting back. It would work to a degree, but he remembered how
hot her fist had been. Her Heli Magis was flaring, trying to set
       itself on Asena's attacker.
       He would handle it.

Asena grinned when she got the hit in and finally even tripped
the man. Perhaps it wasn’t her cleanest move, nor did it really
affect him all that much. But it did make him start taking off
his cestuses. She took that opportunity to get to her feet and
get ready for what he had in store. Seltimus was clearly a good
fighter and she had a feeling this fight might end in the way it
had before. With Septimus kicking her *ss and her having to
forfeit. But until then, she was having fun and wanted to make
the most of this. Whether he knew it or not, she appreciated him
letting her work out some aggression. She appreciated a lot of
what Septimus was doing to help her at the moment...She didn’t
let herself get distracted on those thoughts and waited for him
to be ready before she gave him a smile. He seemed to be waiting
on her to move so that he could attack. Curious, she came at
him, this time feigning a strike before trying to land another
on him. She was hardly one for fist fights even if she had been
in her share of them. So she expected to give herself some
leniency if he was better at this than her.
