Septimus smiled a bit. Asena was joking, though it wasn't as
carefree as it usually was. Still, it was something. "I know,
days without discussing talking points, political maneuvers, or
regional issues. Whatever will I talk about?" He leaned back to
rest on his hands and rolled his head around his shoulders.
Gods, he was a Misilm mage, sleeping against a wall shouldn't
knot him up so badly. He must be getting soft, too used to a
       plush bed.
Presently, he turned his head to face Asena. "You just say the
word, and I'll be there for you whenever you need it. Seriously.
If you ever need anything, tell me." And with that gushy
sentiment out of the way, he looked away.
"My home is in Upper Vilvella. It's a rather nice place. Get
dressed, pack whatever you think you'll need, and you can see it
       for yourself."

Asena gave Septimus a crinkle of her eyes in humor at his joke
about talking points. She knew better than to assume the man was
dry conversation. He hadn’t been in the years they knew each
other and Asena was comfortable in saying he wasn’t bad company.
A bit more laidback than herself, but not a man of laziness or
selfishness. No her trip with him to Plots had seen that
assumption right out the window. But she wondered how sharing
time with him in his estate might appear to the others, let
alone how it might feel for her. She wasn’t used to estates nor
was she used to having people around her when she wasn’t
traveling or working on her campaign . The change in scenery may
just be what she needed to not feel so cold and alone. Him
leaning back against the bed and stretching made her smirk since
he seemed to be sore as well from his night spent on the floor.
Had he really stayed the whole night with her? Asena wasn’t sure
but the thought made her feel strange.
“I’m sure we can find a suitable topic. Like the weather?” She
told him as a gentle joke, but it faded when he offered her such
kind words of support. Asena felt her face fall, knowing her
expression softened when he offered something quite steep. It
wasn’t the usual “Oh you’re my friend and I’m there for you.”
She felt like this wasn’t just that token response. It was
       genuine.
That drew her eyes to the food, since for some reason she felt
tears welling up again. She only nodded when he told her to get
dressed and ready. However she pulled the plate into her lap.
“But first, better not let breakfast go to waste.” She told him
       before tucking into the food.
An hour or so had passed and Asena was dressed and ready with a
bag packed. Her sword was back at her hip, even if the pressure
of it felt heavier than the ring in her pocket that she fiddled
with as she walked. She came down to find Melrose, Septimus, and
a new face talki NV about something. That drew her in closer,
more to give her Uncle a hug as she felt like apologizing for
being a mess that morning in front of their new guest. “I’m
sorry about this morning Uncle. I wasn’t in the best sorts.” She
said as she pulled away and gave him a softer look. “Septimus
offered to let me stay with him for a bit. Just till all of this
blows over...I’ll still be in Marieve to work on the campaign if
needed and we can still have tea and visit. I’m just...This Inn
is very public.” She said, leaving it at that. In all honesty
this inn was the last place she was happy on thoughts of seeing
Damon again... Instead of allowing herself to wallow in the
emotions that clawed at her composure, she turned her attention
to the younger man there. “Hey, I’m Asena Valda. I’m sorry I
wasn’t up in time to greet you properly. What’s your name?”

Melrose was situated in the receptionists' desk once more. It
was a calm evening.. a quiet one at that, and Konsole was
awkwardly sitting on a chair next to him. Melrose was polishing
his paperwork and ensuring that Konsole had all contracts drawn
up clearly.. as he did not want to make the same informal
mistake he had previously made with Elissac; bless him whenever
       he decides to return.
He was interrupted, however; and noticed Asena walking down the
stair. He stood up and clasped both of his hands around his
back, with Konsole also standing up; but keeping his arms to his
side. Melrose awkwardly stood there as Asena hugged him,
however. He had always been awkward whenever it came to being
affectionately hugged.. as Dweller's were not innately
affectionate to begin with. He awkwardly patted her shoulder and
nodded, smiling underneath his mask once she had revealed the
comfort that Septimus had offered. He was present, after-all,
months ago whenever Damon had been executed.. why, this was the
very reason why Konsole was now here.
He returned his hands clasped behind his back, and allowed Asena
to make her introduction; staying silent and observing the
       conversation.

So first the woman he is supposed to guard is cuddling up one
man, but apparently had a thing with another man prior and now
that is why Konsole had been hired? He was awkwardly sitting
next to Melrose as he was calculating all of this in his head.
Was he going to have to start killing off men one by one that
had sex with Asena? He did get the impression that Damon was
risky after he was given the details of what had occurred by
Melrose. She certainly sounded like a gentlemanizer. He wasn't
going to be a victim, hopefully. Asena wasn't quite his.. cup of
tea, after-all. The thought almost made him shiver, in-fact.. he
didn't want to be lit aflame by the apparent siren.
Lost in his train of thought, though; since Melrose was quite
astute and quiet whenever he was doing paperwork.. he was
allowing himself to get lost in his train of thought. From the
peek he did manage to get in, the man she had been cuddling with
wasn't that bad looking, after-all. Such was not the time for
such thoughts, however.. especially once he noticed out of his
       peripheral Melrose standing.
He followed suite and stood as well, noticing the same woman
coming down the stairs. So this was Asena Valda. The woman of
fire, he had heard rumors of. He remained quiet, but his eyes
focused on the woman as he gathered details.. especially
noticing how affectionate she seemed towards Melrose. He raised
an eyebrow and watched Melrose, as well. He was a Dweller,
wasn't he? Why was he letting the woman touch him?
Regardless, he remained quiet and expressionless until he was
addressed. He bowed, before revealing his name.
"Konsole Hawe, my Lady." He spoke with grace.

Asena’s expression lit up with surprise when Konsole introduced
himself so sparsely. Oh so he wasn’t a talker then? Well that
meant he may be more reserved like her Uncle then. No wonder
they appeared alright with one another. “Oh please call me
Asena. I don’t much like the fancy titles among future friends.
It’s good to have you here. I’m not sure what for, but I
appreciate the help none the less.” She said, trying her best to
be positive for he young man and not scare him off with further
displays of bitterness or sadness. No one, especially not a
stranger, needed to be privy to that. Even if she felt exhausted
currently, her head was still pounding, and some of the noise
around her was starting to overwhelm her. Quiet and some place
with the fewest eyes possible was what she wanted. She gave
Konsole a softer smile before she removed herself from his space
and went to Septimus. “All packed and clean. Are you sure you’re
okay with having me around your home? I don’t wish to trouble
you with my problems.” She said since she knew her emotions were
hardly where they should be and it was taking everything in her
not to start receding within herself and crying. She was just
taking everything ten seconds at a time, only allowing her
immediate world to be processed instead of the rest of the
       emotions in her mind.

Septimus chuckled and shook his head. "I don't mind. I know what
it's like to need to get away for a while. Stay with me, and you
won't have to worry about anything. My staff will clean up after
you, bring you meals, and you'll be free to peruse the library
or go train in the courtyard or take a dip in the pond. Whatever
       strikes your fancy."
He had begun walking as he spoke, and he held the door open for
her to step outside. "Right now, we need to worry about your
happiness over anything. Even if you still want to be on the
Truce, you can't win if you're overwhelmed by this." He held a
hand up high and a coach slowed to a stop near them.
"Get your things in the cart while I give the coachman
directions." He stepped up to the front and began speaking in
       quiet tones with the driver.

Asena frowned when he said he understood her need to get away.
That's right...he lost his whole family to a fire. He probably
did know better than anyone around her what this was like.
Perhaps that was why he was being so helpful to her? Because he
understood? The list of perks to staying with him made her give
a small smile. "That all sounds like a good time. Well except
making your staff work harder. We are overdue for a rematch."
She said before getting into the carriage he hailed. The comment
about being happy made her wince, since she didn't think she
really had it in her to be happy, not for a long time at least.
But she wasn't one to give up on her goals and she wouldn't
allow herself to fail at getting the Truce seat. Her happiness
wasn't the most important piece right now anyways, not when she
had responsibilities to tend to. She wouldn't argue that with
Septimus since she was sure he would scold her thinking. So she
climbed inside after storing her bag on the back and strapping
it down. In the quiet, she looked toward the window, fiddling
with the ring in her pocket to keep her hands and mind occupied.

Shortly after, Septimus climbed into the coach and they started
moving through the city towards Upper Vilvella.
Septimus' home was a fairly large manor surrounded by high walls
on the edge of the district. The coach stopped at a gate, which
an armed man in uniform opened after confirming that Septimus
was in the carriage. They were taken right up to the front steps
of the house, passing a lush green lawn along the way. As they
stepped out of the coach -- Septimus offering a hand to Asena
for support -- a dour looking man came out of the front door and
       approached.
"Lorenz, this is Lady Asena Valda, my employer. She'll be
staying with us for some time. Please take her luggage inside
and have Lelasa ready some rooms for her."
The dour man nodded and went to obey. Septimus smiled and
followed the manservant into the house. "Would you like a tour
of the estate, Asena, or would you like that rematch right this
instant?" He, of course, never left his estate without his
cestuses. If she wanted to test her skills right then, he was
prepared to show her the training court.

Asena’s took in the estate curiously, wondering just what kind
of place Septimus would build. She liked all the greenery around
them, even if the size of the place was a bit intimidating to
her. She never really spent much time in estates and hadn’t ever
thought of herself staying in one. Even if she won the seat on
the Truce she had planned to just live with...She pulled away
from that line of thinking, trying not to let the tears hit her.
She instead made herself focus on what was going on in the
       present. The present was safer...
She took his hand out of the carriage but was surprised when one
of the staff came out to greet them. The dour man didn’t look
all that enthused to see them but she would still be cordial.
“Thank you Lorenz.” She said before she listened to Septimus’s
offer of things to do. She was surprised he wanted the rematch
already, but she would take him up on it once she got to see a
bit more of his home. After all, she would be staying there a
bit so she needed to have a bit of the layout. “Why not the best
of both? I’ll take that tour and maybe an end at where you do
your training? Best to make a good impression to the staff
before I kick the house lord’s butt.” She told him, mostly just
       teasing.

Septimus nodded and began walking. The house itself was large
enough on its own. He took her through the foyer and turned to
the right. "The east wing here is the guest quarters. You'll be
staying in one of these sets of rooms. Each room has its own
lavatory, but the bath is at the end of the hall. He then turned
away from that door and headed the opposite direction.
"West wing is where my quarters and the servants' are located.
I'm on the ground floor at the far end, if you need me. Lelasa
and Lorenz -- my head maid and my butler -- are on the rooms to
either side of my quarters. If you need something after we've
retired, don't feel too shy about bothering any of us. The
library is also this way." He opened the door and stepped
through into a long hallway. Immediately after the door, a set
of stairs led up to the right. "I had to add a whole second
level to the wing to fit it. It's mostly books on laws, tax
codes, and civil regulations, but I do have some biographies,
histories, and even a bit of fiction."
He closed the door and turned back to her. "Everything else is
at the rear of the house. If you feel hungry, you may request
something from the kitchen staff or even make it yourself if you
feel so inclined. The library has places to curl up and read,
but I also have a sitting room down here that gets excellent sun
during the day and has a fireplace and lamps for nighttime and
colder weather." He paused, considering. "I... don't know if
you're planning to say here that long, but just in case." He
       shrugged.
"The grounds can be reached by either going out the front door
-- you saw the front lawn, there's not much to see there -- or
going through the kitchen to the back. Shall we?" He gestured
towards the opposite end of the foyer where they'd come, towards
       the rear of the house.

Re: Chapter 1.65: Kindled Embers (Asena & Septimus) [Y1057]
By: Kimcora Date: June 15, 2020, 10:51 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Asena kept up with Septimus, walking beside him as he walked
with him toward the east wing. She glanced around his side and
looked down the hall, spotting multiple rooms. She wondered
which she would be allowed to take, but would save that for
later when it really mattered. It was easy to tell that Asena
didn’t want to be alone at the moment, hence why she stuck so
close to Septimus. Usually, she was one to be much more
talkative and cheerful, and would possibly be dragging Septimus
around his own home to investigate. But, for now, she was
content letting him do most of the talking and just listening.
It felt nice to have something else in her head rather than her
       own voice.
The tour eventually took them to Septimus’s wing and even where
the servants stayed. She was interested to meet this Lelasa and
perhaps get to know Lorenz a bit better. After all, she didn’t
want to trouble Septimus all day when he surely had work to
do...Asena let her eyes trail to him, trying to keep it from
being obvious that she was observing Septimus. Honestly, she was
still surprised he was being this gracious as letting her stay
with him. She hadn’t really ever been invited into Septimus’s
private space like this before. Heck, beyond playful banter and
some talks while drinking, the pair really hadn’t had this much
time alone since their time in Plots. But even so...Asena
felt...relaxed around him and was quite comfortable by him. Was
that normal? Perhaps she was confused because he was being so
kind to her? No...Septimus was just a kind man and ally...right…
The sight of the library made Asena pause, her eyes widening
slightly at the sheer size. When he described the books there,
she gave a nervous chuckle. “There are that many books on laws
and stuff? Is that what you read for fun? Do you read for fun?”
She asked since she really didn’t know all Septimus did for fun.
However, news of food and a kitchen did brighten her mood. She
loved cooking and that honestly sounded great to her. Of course,
she wouldn’t just wander in there and make a mess without asking
the servants first. “Ooh fun. I actually like cooking even if
I’m sure the staff might object. Maybe they would let me just
make something sweet? I promise I’m actually decent at baking if
you want to try it sometime.” She did like his description of
the sitting quarters and possibly places to hide away and be on
her lonesome. Though the question of if she was staying around
to see how pretty those places were in the winter did make her
brows knit a bit. Would...would she really still need to be with
       him by then?
She let the thought drop when he offered her to follow him out
the back to the rest of the home. She gave a playful little
flourish at his offer to go further into the home.
