The Meeting (y1054)
By: MISSimissyou Date: December 11, 2020, 11:48 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Alec Maris Quell
The Arcadian Institute of Magis
Arcadia
Grand Eccentrique Meeting Room
Y1054
____________________________________________________
Alec looked glumly at the elaborate timepiece stationed at the
end of the room. He had, in fact, been looking glumly at this
timepiece for quite some time. He knew for a fact that not all
of the members of their elite club would be at this meeting. He
was still unsure as to the identity of many of the members of
the Eccentrique but he did know a few. Usually he was too busy
with his own studies and duties to pay much attention to any of
the others and trusted that they were attending to his own
duties. That being said, he did hold a fondness for certain
members of their small club.
After another agonizing moment of staring at the timepiece he
decided to turn his attention back to the group. He knew there
was a reason why they had gathered here and it was likely a good
one but he couldn’t quite recall what it was. He had been so
caught up in his current research that he had nearly ignored the
summons altogether. The study of biology was much more
fascinating than some stuffy meeting and he had been
experimenting with individual cells, trying to determine if the
combination of different cells could be possible for a simple
transfer of material. It was something he was sure he himself
would be capable of and he wasn’t sure of the consequences of
trying to mix, say, a plant cell with a hard cell wall with an
animal cell with a softer cell membrane but he was sure there
was something there worth dissecting further. Perhaps he could
try some simple grafting on himself or a rat…
His eyes refocused as his attention snapped back to what was
happening in the room and he sought out Adaire in the room.
Experimenting on a rat was something she would likely not
appreciate but some things had to be done for the sake of
knowledge. Looking at her face, though, he came to a swift
decision that self-experimentation would be the best way to go.
Best not to anger a friend. He made eye contact and crossed his
eyes slightly before refocusing on the timepiece, a small smile
tugging at his lips, a small communication that he had not been
paying attention in the slightest. He was vaguely aware that
there had been brief conversation but he couldn’t bring himself
to concentrate. Not only did this meeting seem tedious but he
had work left to be done and snacks yet to be eaten. Perhaps if
he had eaten earlier it wouldn’t be so hard to pay attention.
He sighed softly as the timepiece stubbornly refused to make
time move faster. “I don’t think anyone else is coming.” He
said, his soft voice at odds with his large frame. “So shall we
adjourn for later? Or is this matter really so urgent?” At this
point he was entirely sure the matter at hand had been, at least
briefly, discussed. He would really have to make a point to
bring snacks to the next meeting.

Adaire Blankley
Location: Arcadia, Celestialan Tower
Accompanying: All you hoes
Aidaire sat idly at the closest seat to the head of the table,
ignoring most of the prattling as Nibbler took most of her
attention. The poor Glider was hungry and getting nippy while
being forced to wait patiently as they all fretted and talked
over boring things. That was the one thing about the Eccentrique
that always bothered her. It too closely mirrored the world of
politics and nobility that Adaire left behind with nothing but
the cloak on her back. Royalty never suited the “spirited”
princess and she much preferred being out and about with her
animals in the forest rather than cooped up in a room. So
why...Oh why...were they forced to gather like roosting hens?
Couldn’t she be out tending to the populations and helping the
healing students study the animals and nature around them. Or
using her power to influence some prick harming Liphilius to
spill what they knew? She was better served outside of a meeting
chamber’s four walls.
Surely some of the other’s felt the same...Some were missing
from this meeting room after all. Adair hadn’t seen Prisma yet
and figured she was at home with her daughter. That left a few
familiar faces. Quell and Agnar were in the room and Nibbler
told her he could hear Gen’s vibrations approaching. He couldn’t
recognize the scent of the scrawny kid with her. It wasn’t
Septimus so why did it matter? And where was Kai?
Either way, what was she going to talk about? Boring research?
Things they didn’t care about? Maybe the weather?
She snickered to herself, the sound coming out as a soft snort.
That drew her eyes up from the Glider to check to be sure no one
heard. She couldn’t have them thinking she wasn’t a resident
hardass or tough lady right? However, in looking up, she caught
sight of Quell looking at her. That drew her to smirk, her brows
raising as if to ask silently what he was thinking. Must have
been thinking about one of his experiments. Already, she had had
a very firm confirmation with him that she would not approve of
him harming animals for experiments. She hit that home now with
a small reminder, a growling noise from Nibbler who was eyeing
Quell suspiciously. Luckily, she knew he was a dear friend and
wouldn’t harm something living if she asked him.
Most of her compatriots here understood her love for animals.
They were so much better than people. They were smarter, kinder,
and more honest. Adaire had always been teased for thinking that
way, but she stuck by it. She never met a creature she disliked.
But she met PLENTY of people she hated with a burning passion.
When Quell turned his attention to someone entering, she instead
looked to Agnar who looked just as bored. “So, they roped you
into this meeting too, Big Guy? What have you been up to?
Punching sh*t?” She asked before her brow raised Gen. “And
you’re still picking up strays? What happened to the smooth
talker?” She asked, jerking her chin towards the kid who was not
the man Septimus she once cared for.

Agnar Skyf-Khodit'
Location: Physically? Arcadia, Celestialan Tower. Mentally?
Someplace else.
Accompanying: This bunch
Agnar had been training elsewhere when the summons for this
meeting had been given out. Of course his being there was
‘essential’ just like every other damned meeting in
that little office. Whatever happened to ‘Are you
perchance free tomorrow?’ or ‘We’re holding a
meeting, would you like to attend?’
His status as the more brute force of the group often meant he
wasn’t needed that much which was fine for him with his
free-lance mercinary work. However, it meant he was often on the
grounds and often without an excuse not to be in attendance.
Agnar hadn’t bothered to change out of his training gear;
a pair of hide pants that were fire-proof and a worn out jerkin
that held the odd spot of soot or the occasional hole from his
stray embers. He brought his axe along, not wanting to wander
all the way down to his quarters to put it away. He cut an
intimidating figure as he entered the room, but his status as
‘henchmen’ seemed to counter this with a kind of
invisibility.
He took up a spot on a stool near the princess, his hulking
figure making it seem too small. He rested his axe across his
thighs and was absentmindedly rubbing at a scuff on it when she
addressed him.
The usually quick-witted and cheeky individual immediately felt
at a loss of words and felt his face heat up and his hands also
warm with his magis. He rubbed harder at the scuff and managed
to mumble, “And snapping trees in half with my bare
hands... on the off day”
With his gaze focused on the axe-head he could respond a little
clearer.
“I could be into poetry and crochet for all you know. What
about you? Besides being ‘one with the
animals?’” he said back, glancing down at her only
to hurry back to the scuff mark on his axe-head.

Kai, Stopper of Floods, Breaker of Storms, Sinker of Fleets,
Incarnation of Pisces on Liphilius, of the Great Shark Tribe
Location: Arcadia, Celestialan Tower
Accompanying: Nawai'Ano Maikiki, Rain Maker, Drought Stopper, of
the Great Shark Tribe; Oh, and the Eccentrique
None would suspect they'd find the most powerful Zsill mage in
the world sleeping on a rock while his fishing pole dangled from
one hand. That was why it was the perfect disguise. Well, it
would have been the perfect disguise if a certain headstrong
apprentice hadn't rudely shaken him awake and handed him a
missive from the Order.
Upon reading about an urgent meeting of the Eccentrique, Kai's
first reaction was to keep fishing. When one Maikiki gave him a
firm glare, he'd reeled in the line -- acting shocked that the
bait was missing -- and gone to grab a boat.
It would have been faster to travel overland until they reached
the southern cities of Elvira and Elmira, instead of sailing
around the coast, but Kai seemed determined to miss this
meeting. So he was quite surprised when he walked into the tower
and saw the others gathered.
"Ah! It appears I am on time for once." He stretched and moved
to lounge in his accustomed spot under the symbol of Pisces. "It
has been some time. Allow me to introduce my apprentice,
Nawai'Ano Maikiki. Maikiki, these are the other Eccentriques."

Name: Abrish, Avatar of Aquarius- leader of the Essentriques.
Location: Arcadia, Celestialan Tower
Accompanying: the other who showed up to the meeting.
•~°•••°~•
Abrish tapped a finger on her desk in annoyance as the man
before her kept talking, she had a meeting to attend and she
could tell she was late. As he went on to speak on how to
'properly address' the others she rolled her eyes, lips pursed.
"Yes, yes. I know how to be polite in public and not
to bite. I have a meeting- if you will excuse me." She
stated finally getting a space to interject herself as the man
was rather long winded. She knew he meant well but she could
handle herself.
Heading down the stairs she felt the energy from the room,
knowing quite a few were there already. She took a deep breath
and straightened out her dress, her short statua not helping
much but she didn't mind. Opening the door she came in , eyes
scanning everyone from the layed back ones to the big imposing
one. She might have been newer at this then most of them but she
would do her job well.
She walked to her seat, more at the front of the room and took a
moment before sitting. Her mentor, a man she had assumed would
have made it to his own meeting, never let her sit in his place
now it was hers- but so was the responsibility to handle all of
these...magis users and their interesting personalities.
"Greetings, I apologize for the late start I had-
well there was a yammering idiot in my office to be blunt about
it." She stated first off but was honest about things.
"Might we have a brief introduction? I shall go first. I am the
new Avatar of Aquarius, Abrish. I am replacing my mentor Cryion
as he passed suddenly not a week out." She stated firmly looking
apathetic about the dead since honestly it didn't bother her. No
one knew that thw old man was mean, as she often for the brunt
of it.

Alec straightened slightly as he was addressed, his face
breaking into a grin as he registered who had spoken. He bowed
slightly in greeting, though he did not rise fully from his
chair as he did so, though he knew she wouldn't mind. Ma Liaohue
had become an unexpected yet welcome friend to him over the
years they had known each other. Ever the helpful hand, she was
always willing to hear out his most outlandish ideas and helped
whenever she could to provide elements to aid in his
experiments. Plant cells were still a foreign realm to him and
her insight was always appreciated.
"The cells are proving tricky to work with but I think I am
managing something." he said in a soft voice as he nodded to his
notebook. He had left the tattered looking book open on the desk
in front of him, the pages cramped with words and pictures
scrawled in a tight neat hand. "I do think there is something to
be gained from using plant and skin cells in tandem to bandage
wounds. With certain plants I am sure it would triple the speed
of healing and would be an invaluable tool in battle." He made
an effort to keep his voice low so as not to disturb others
around the room. Most in the room would likely find the
conversation a dull one and he didn't feel the need to involve
them. This meeting wasn't about him, after all. "That reminds
me...I was wondering if I could bother you for something to help
with the experiments. Something soothing in nature, an aloe
perhaps? I'm thinking if I start with something surface like a
burn it would be easier to-"
His thoughts trailed off as an unexpected person entered the
room. Alec had only had the pleasure of meeting Kai on few
occasions but each of them was memorable. There had, in fact,
been meetings in the past where the islander's presence had been
requested and he had chosen not to attend at all. Alec had an
almost fond memory of Kai showing up at the tail end of a
meeting, all charm and apologies. None of the apologies had been
convincing in the slightest and it was evident to anyone paying
attention that he simply couldn't be bothered to attend the
meeting at all. There was a certain charm to that. If Alec was
being completely honest with himself there was a certain charm
to everything Kai did. Of course, he would never admit that to
himself. Work was work and Kai was an enigma. An unreachable
enigma. But he couldn't help but wonder-
His thoughts were jostled once again as another latecomer
entered the room. Abrish the apprentice. Alec didn't have an
apprentice yet but he had always been open to the idea. No one
had stood out yet to him and, even if they had, convincing
someone to take on this life was difficult work. Before he could
wonder why she was here unattended she spoke and Alec felt the
grin fade from his face. Loss of life was always a burden and he
had been completely unaware of the old master's death. He bowed
his head slightly and took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as
he offered a moment of silent remembrance for Cryion. Had the
others known before today or was this news to all of them? The
apprentice...the new Aquarius, that is, didn't seem bothered in
the slightest by the news.
"We mourn your loss." Alec said softly as he looked back up at
the young woman. "Please, let us know if there is anything we
can do to help you in this time of mourning." He felt the need
to include everyone else in that statement as no one would have
offered if he hadn't. At least, he didn't think they would. "I'm
sure you know, but I am Alec Quell, or the Sagittarius." He
offered her a smile and looked around the room, his eyes finally
falling on Liaohue, a silent invitation for her to speak next.

Ah ara response of snapping trees in half made her give a grin,
a genuine one that she showed only those she trusted.
“Impressive as always...Stay the hell out of my forests then.
The hawks are roosting and I’ll kick your *ss if you damage a
nest.” She winked, knowing she was feisty enough to go toe to
toe with him or charm a few raccoons to steal his laundry, if
she was feeling particularly evil. She did it to the former
leader, even if he never could pin it on someone.
The next comment made her grin pacify to a thoughtful look, her
lips twisting some in thought. The image of Agnar crocheting and
reciting poetry drew a laugh to her that unfortunately ended
with a snort. Not because it was impossible but because his
large size made everything look like a giant handling tools for
a mouse.
“I’ve known you how many years Aggie? I’m not saying you
wouldn’t be cultured in the softer arts, but just that I would
be disappointed if you never crocheted Nibbles a sweater or
recited any poetry at the local college readings.” She said with
a cocky smile that led into a shrug from her.
“As for me, you know being the ‘b*t sh*t hermit professor’ in
the forest is a full time job. I got to scare some hunters away
from a bear yesterday and went for pint afterwards to celebrate.
You know the barkeep’s cousin was one of the hunters? Said the
bear ate a cow. Well don’t let your cows graze where the bear
eats! Ah and there’s this amazing waterfall in a glade that I
found. You might like it for a quick dip in the summer. And
let’s see the rest was all grading and lessons with the students
interested in preservation. They’re all green but I think I can
toughen them up by winter.” She said, excitedly sharing her days
that barely had a full moment. She liked to stay busy and that’s
why she often didn’t get to meet the others.
Adaire perked up when Prisma came to hug her. She missed her
friend but knew that her daughter was important. She wished
Prisma would let her join the group but it seemed her mother was
protective of the young girl... Adaire was content even if she
rose a brow at Kai and sneered at his new follower. “More
children?” She rolled her eyes skyward, since she wasn’t against
kids just the fact they weren’t fully fledged members about to
hear some harsh things. Poor kids might wet themselves...
The room was quickly filling up now and Adaire wasn’t sure she
liked the show of new faces. She didn’t like being shut up in a
room full of people, especially those she never spoke with
regularly. She was the type that had her people that she stuck
with and the rest were viewed with hesitance and skepticism
until they proved themselves otherwise trustworthy. Such as
Agnar, Prisma, and Quell. Not that she hated the others, but
they usually only got the stony and prickly side of Adaire that
she presented to most. So when the new head b*tch entered the
chamber and began things with barely an eyelash bat at her
predecessor, Adaire passed her a once over look. She didn’t look
like much to be the new leader they needed. This guild would
chew her up and spit her back out if she wasn’t anything....
“Adaire. Capricorn. And this is Nibbles.” She said as the glider
slunk his way to the table, sniffing the air to get a read on
the new Aquarius.

Agnar gave a small smile at the woman, ears turning a bit pink
as she used the nickname he’d so adamantly refused to begin
with. Now he didn’t seem to mind so much. He listened to her
brief but very full summary of her last week or so and nodded.
He didn’t stare at her too long and resigned to bashfully
rubbing that persistent scuff out of his axe-head as he always
grew too shy if she paid him much mind.
His gaze switched to Genevieve and he quickly found that the
attention Adair held needed to be directed elsewhere as their
leader entered. He supposed he should sit in his proper place
now in the same sort of chair Adair and the rest had sat in.
He’d simply chose the stool as he was not a fan of the
‘offciality’ and pomp of the allocated seats. But seeing that
there was quite a few newcomers he supposed it would serve as a
way of introduction. He stood, the stool giving a slight groan
at his mass and moved to the seat with his zodiac. It was an
intimidating thing, a mass of welded steal with the ram’s head
circled in flames but what was more intimidating to those who
didn’t know him was his height. At 6’1’’ he felt as though he
almost had to duck to avoid the opulent chandelier as he moved
himself to sit. He glanced about and set his axe down, leaning
it against the chair.
“Are we going to wait for the others before you tell us the
agenda? Or can we start already?” It wasn’t rude or accusatory,
just straightforward and blunt like he always was.

Kai straightened up from his slouch at the mention of the
previous leader's death. His brow furrowed. "I am Kai, Avatar of
Pisces. What happened to Cryion?" He'd seemed fine at the last
meeting Kai had attended. While that was several meetings past,
the point stood. Sudden onset of illness was unlikely for a man
who would be in contact with the best mages of all types in
Liphilius.
