Mal gave a stretched, "I do hope you told her about how you were
the one cleaning all those people of their money" he looked to
Lae'Vera "You should have seen him! Bet after bet he won and
everyone was getting antsy about losing their money to him.
Heck- even I was nervous putting coin on the table and I taught
him the game!"
He passed a plate of food into the centre of them so he wasn't
keeping it all to himself, stealing another snack.
Lae'Vera raised a brow, "He did also tell me you were going to
skewer them with your sword" Her tone was serious but you could
see in her expression she found it amusing.
"Hey- I usually a lover not a fighter~" he winked but Lae'Vera
just rolled her eyes as her attention went to Eir instead.
"Oh- a fire would be great. We can dry off and get warm again."
"Hey, I'll help grab some firewood" offered Malachi and he
tugged Eir off into the dunes with a glance to ensure she wasn't
following.
"Now's your chance" he whispered "Go ahead and do the stretch
thing" Mal could tell by Eir's confused expression that he had
no idea what he was talking about. He clicked his tongue in
exasperation; he forgot jut how more versed he was in the ways
of making women swoon.
"Here, look- you're Lae and I'm you" he stood beside Eir,
glancing to make sure Lae'Vera wasn't watching; She was
currently rubbing her hair with her towel so Mal continued. He
gave a yawn and a stretch, his arm extending out and behind Eir
placing him in an embrace of sorts.
"See? Very subtle" he grinned before actually beginning to pick
up wood to put into a fire. He gathered an armful before
following Eir to set it up in an arrangement that would light
easily.
"Oh- we didn't bring any matches" Malachi said with a huff. He
looked at Eir in disappointment, but it quickly morphed into
embarrassment.
"Oh- Right- Firebreathing dragons and all that-" he chuckled as
he sat on his towel.

---------------------------------------------------------
Eir gave a laugh at the continued banter over the night, mostly
because he still couldn’t believe he actually did something like
that. Had Malachi never come into his life, he probably wouldn’t
have ever set foot in that place. He was beginning to realize
that Mal may have been something akin to a best friend at this
point and he only knew him for such a short time. It felt
wonderful to finally have that true bond with someone that
wasn’t a drake he shared articles with or someone he had to
impress for business sake. He really had Malachi to thank for a
lot. Especially getting him to actually speak to Lea’Vera and
not sound like a fool.
His pointers were helpful so far, but Eir was unsure of how to
proceed. He wasn’t exactly able to ask her too much about her
life when he didn’t know what was intrusive. And he wasn’t sure
if he was allowed to touch her, let alone breathe in her
direction in a way that even hinted that he found her company
nice. So when she agreed to the fire and Malachi offered to get
wood with him, Eir was elated at the opportunity to ask
Malachi’s advice. The last thing he expected was to get advice
before he even asked.
The stretch move? Eir tilted his head in confusion at the idea
since he wasn’t sure what he meant. Did he mean flexing muscles
or showing off his physique? No, it seemed the stretch move was
to work your way into discreetly putting your arm around a girl.
He blushed slightly at the idea of being that close to her and
worried a moment that might violate her personal space. But
Malachi seemed confident and that made Eir willing to listen and
try. What’s the worse that could happen?
As they set up the fire and Malachi made his blunder about the
fire, Eir gave him a cheerful smile. “Way ahead of you.” Eir
focused on his Liph Magis a moment and felt the scales climbing
up his throat and to his jaw as some of that biology changed.
With a deep inhale, Eir let out an exhale of blue flames that
immediately lit the wood on fire. He focused on the shift and
let the biology settle back as to allow him to speak properly
without sounding like a true drake. That would be quite
difficult for Malachi to understand as his morphed throat
couldn’t make the right sounds. It was why Vs’Shtak was
difficult for non Draconians to learn.
When the fire was going, Eir swallowed hard and glance at Lea
who seemed to be watching the fire. He gave a rather wide
stretch and tried to put that arm around her, but it seemed
Lea’Vera had thought of something to say and looked in his
direction. Eir was already mid movement and fumbled to catch
himself, planting the hand in the sand but leaving his face mere
inches from Lea’Vera’s. A blush caught on his cheeks like
wildfire as he fumbled for what to say to explain himself. He
had to say something, anything, and not just sit there like a
moron.
“S-Sorry, I thought you still looked cold and—um—“ He gave a
nervous chuckle as his free hand fished behind him for the extra
blanket he brought. He caught the corner and pulled it toward
him, showing her the blanket but still not pulling away from
her. “I—um—maybe we could share this. I read a first aid journal
about how sharing body heat can help warm a patient—a person up
more than if you cover them alone. If you want I could—or maybe
the arm over your shoulder would suffice—unless that’s—“ He
realized he was fumbling and Eir quickly gave a sigh, his
expression softening at her. He had to get his shit together or
he was going to end up offending her. With an inhale, he decided
to just speak his mind clearly, as he would with a patient or
academic he was working with. That sought to calm him more than
thinking of her as this beautiful girl he was trying to ‘woo’.
“I would like to help you warm up if that’s okay with you. I’m
sorry that got jumbled. It’s a bit hard to talk to you and not
stumble over my words.” He admitted, trying the direct approach
that she would either be put off by or appreciate. He could only
try and hope he didn’t completely fail.

Lae’Vera was opening her mouth to bring up a topic of interest,
remembering that Eir seemed to be interested in biology when she
came nose to nose with Eir. Her breath caught and she gave a
little surprised gasp at his sudden closeness. His eyes radiated
golden and the firelight caught on his features, making him all
the more attractive in that moment. She could tell by the way
his eyes widened and his face flushed that he hadn’t quite
expected her to turn and face him. Her own face reddened and she
could feel her temperature rise slightly as she also grew
flustered. This was a little more forward than what she had
expected from him from what she’d observed so far. However, the
way he fumbled with his words showed that he was perhaps a
little out of his comfort zone. This inkling helped quell some
of the sudden embarrassment. When he finally gathered his
thoughts together and spoke his mind she gave a smile, tucking
some of her wild hair behind her ear.
“I would very much appreciate that Eir” she said softly, moving
to shift closer to him as he put the blanket about them. Subtly,
she moved in such away that she had shifted closer against his
shoulder.
Mal observed the encounter with a roller coaster of thoughts. He
was impressed Eir attempted the move, then the ire at him
flunking it made him cringe, then the expression of
flusteredness on her face made him hopeful and the final
conceding to cuddling up mind him mentally cheer for Eir. The
drake somehow pulled it all off and not only had an arm around
her, but they were wrapped up all snugly under a blanket. When
Lae wasn’t looking, Mal gave his friend a wink of approval
before laying back so he wasn’t such an obvious presence and
make them feel awkward. So this is what it felt like to be the
third wheel? He smiled to himself, he’d have to get himself a
friend to chat up and make all red. Though, now that he thought
about it. Perhaps no complications with his year here was best.
The thoughts of the number of yearning women he had at home
suddenly wearied him and he decided he’d rather not add more
women to the countless that seemed to think he was ‘the one’ for
them. Instead, he relished in the feel of the fire, the stars in
the sky and the radiating happiness he felt after another great
day.

The last thing Eir expected was for her to accept, but when the
words left Lea’Vera’s lips a smile broke out on his own. He
helped get her situated and comfortable, but felt his heart race
in chest the whole time. Let alone when she leaned against him
and seemed to want to stay close. Eir’s face flushed and he
worried he might look like a moron so he looked away, just
enjoying her soft warmth there with him. He instead focused then
ahead of him at the flames, catching the wink from Malachi. He
spared him a half smile since he felt he did owe a bit of this
to Malachi. Eir would have never had the courage to try this
without his help.
As the night wore on, they spoke on a few topics such as family
and their time in Sililos and interests. He found it was easier
for him to talk to her strangely enough while cuddled close to
her. He just spoke freely, answering her questions and being as
honest as he could be. That seemed to be the best way for him
not to get tongue tied after all. Her responses seemed similarly
honest and upfront, as Eir expected. She didn’t seem like a
woman to play coy and was quite the conversationalist. Well,
perhaps Eir was biased because he hung on her words. He leaned
in a little listen to her, not minding the space as he gave her
his full attention.
When the fire began to die down and it was starting to get quite
late, Eir gave a small sigh and had to pull away from Lea’Vera’s
comfort. “I wish we could stay longer but I’m expected by my
tutors in the morning and I’m sure Malachi is as well.” He
stated to Lea’Vera, before soaring Malachi a smirk at how the
man looked a bit bored. “And I should get him home before my
parents think I’m being a bad host.” He then looked to Lea’vera
and have her a gentle half smile. “Tonight was nice...um...I
hope you had fun?” He asked before he got too nervous and
decided to move on. “Can I offer you a ride back to your place?
As to not have you walking so late alone?” He asked her

“A bad host? No- I’m fine here just sleeping in the sand in my
food coma” Malachi gave a lazy stretch and sat up on one elbow
to look at the pair. They seemed snug, he noticed with a
satisfied smirk. He hadn’t been paying much attention to them,
just listening in and chiming in until he had in fact dozed off.
He was glad his friend was enjoying some companionship and was
also reluctant to leave.
Lae’Vera gave a chuckled at the Elvi’s lax behaviour and
humouring response. She gave a reluctant sigh as Eir moved away
and stated they should all go home. He was right, and she needed
to get home; her father would be wondering where she was. As he
inquired to her experience of the night, she gave a warm smile
and nodded.
“I had a great night... it was fun to get to know you Eir. I
hope we do it again sometime?” she asked slightly in question.
When he offered to her a carriage to take her home she quickly
shook her head, tensing. She moved back a little, “N-no. There’s
no need, I can make my way home-“
She realised her reaction was a little brash and she blushed and
looked away.
“Sorry, it’s just- I don’t live far from here and I don’t want
to burden you...”
If Eir was about to object, Mal gave a clear signal not to; eyes
wide and a swiping motion across his throat. It was a clear
motion not to pursue the topic further. Mal began to pack up the
picnic things, keeping his attention on the task so he ‘didn’t
see’ what he thought might happen.
Lae’Vera stood up with Eir and wrung her hands a little, smiling
slightly and pushing some of her sea-tousled hair behind her
ear.
“Thanks Eir... again- for tonight” she looked up and him “It’s
been a long time since I’ve had this much fun” she leant up on
her toes for a moment to place a kiss to his cheek. With that,
she picked up her towel, gave a wave to Malachi and disappeared
into the dark. Mal clapped a hand on his friends shoulder.
“Good job man, you did well for a novice. She was definitely hot
for you.”
They made their way back toward where the carriage would be.
“Don’t take it too hard on yourself. If a girl doesn’t want you
to walk her home it’s one of three reasons. One, she’s not into-
which whiiiiich we can eliminate because she kissed you. Two,
her dad maybe doesn’t know she’s out? Or maybe he’s protective
and won’t like her hanging around a shady frame. Or three, she’s
embarrassed about where she lives. Which could be since she said
that they were farmers but were forced to move into the city. So
until she gets a bit more comfortable, maybe just back off
walking her home”
Mall’s more serious expression lightened to one of glee, “But
hey! You got a kiss, that’s pretty good right?” he grinned.

---------------------------------------------------------
Eir was reluctant to leave Lea, that was true. It was clear he
was slightly disappointed to lose her warmth and to feel her
pull away. But he understood that both would have families
looking for their return and it wasn't right to keep them
waiting up worried. Besides, her morality might come into
question if she were out all night with a pair of men
unsupervised. He didn't want that used against her or as a
reason that he wouldn't be allowed to see her again.
When she stated she had a good time and would like to do it
again, his face lit up and he gave a happy nod. "Of course,
you're always welcome along." That was the honest truth as he
found her fun and exciting, especially with her more bold nature
and kind handling of his fumbling.
However, her sudden reaction to not wanting to get a ride home
from him was a surprise to him. His brows furrowed in confusion
and there was a moment he wondered if he had royally screwed
something up. Was it wrong to offer girls rides home? Did she
mistake this as him trying to make a move on her? Hopefully this
wasn't something she thought was untoward of him.
He opened his mouth slightly to explain himself, that this was a
harmless offer and just to be sure she wasn't harmed on her way
home. But he saw the gesturing from Malachi and knew to shut his
mouth. Maybe this was normal for girls to balk at the offer?
So he eased and let her finish, trying not to seem embarrassed
as he wondered how properly to say good night. Just a gesture? A
hug? Was a kiss allowed? Not in front of Mal surely...His
worrying was cut short by her sweet thanks, something that made
his heart flutter and heat flood his cheeks. "Y-You're always
welcome, Lea...and same here..." He stated a little dumbly, for
once unable to come up with anything else to say. The kiss to
his cheek was expected and dumbfounded him, making him pause
there in shock as she hurried away. His cheek felt so warm where
her soft lips had been and an excitement almost exploded from
him. She kissed him? Him? Lea'Vera...
Malachi's hand on him woke him from his dreamy far off look
after her. However, that brought back the thoughts of how she
had been so standoffish about him taking her home. "But she
seemed so anxious. Did I do something wrong?" He muttered, only
to get the explanation from Malachi. So he had two out of three
options to work with and they seemed like things he could
understand. But honestly, he hadn't really been thinking of what
her social status was like. Could that have been her reasoning
for running off? After all, the Draconians had strict views on
bloodlines in the higher classes and a farmer's daughter would
surely not be seen as a viable bond to have beyond a tryst. Eir
would be expected to find a woman of high standing to marry for
the sake of furthering the family and producing heirs to secure
the lineage. But that was far off and unneeded for now. So why
couldn't he just forget those rules a moment and enjoy something
real with a beautiful and sweet girl?
Malachi's statement about the kiss made Eir brighten again, a
blush spreading on his cheeks. "Y-Yeah. I wasn't expecting that
but. It felt really nice." He said with a smile pulling at his
lips. "I can understand her reluctance. I'm sure both our
families might not be...inclined to all this." He stated briefly
before he decided to shake that off and change the topic. "And
you Mal? You're very good at talking to women and wooing them.
Do you have a significant other back home? Perhaps a betrothed?"
He asked as they entered the carriage to head back for the
night.

Malachi was glad that it had gone so well, and Eir had even got
a kiss out of it! As they walked back to the carriage Eir asked
if he had a significant woman in his life. The young man gave a
kind of derisive snort and shook his head.
“My parents won’t bother with finding me a betrothed until I’m
more useful to them, besides- it isn’t really important who I
marry. I’m just the younger child and I guess they’ll be more
lenient with me or worry about it when my marriage will benefit
them. My brother however, he has a betrothed now. It’s lucky
really, since he’s no good at talking to women”
They sat down and the carriage began to move along the road.
“He was so nervous to meet her for the first time he thought he
was going to throw up, so they sent me in to talk to her and
keep her company. You should have seen the disappointment when
she realised I was his younger brother!” he gave a laugh but
shrugged it off.
“They’re made for each other really. Both so serious and boring
and snooty.” He considered Eir for a moment.
“Is betrothal a thing that happens here? I just now thought that
if it were, a young lord like you would be betrothed. But since
you’re associating with Lae’Vera, I assume not?” he queries,
though he didn’t want to assume.

Re: CHPT 0.11 Brothers (Malachi & Eir'Asa)
By: Kimcora Date: September 28, 2020, 9:00 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Eir heard Malachi's comment about not having a betrothed because
of his parents lack of investment in him as the youngest child.
That just seemed so strange to Eir, mostly because the family
lines in Glapera were very serious matters and they liked to
press the importance of continuing their species with the young.
Even Eir, who's immediate family was a bit more liberal, knew
there was an expectation to marry someone for contractual
purproses eventually. As his mother did by marrying his father,
he would be expected to find someone that could make a strong
alliance with the Aluanas.
A chuckle rose from Eir when he heard Malachi state that he had
charmed his brother's betrothed so. He felt a kinship
momentarily with the older brother, understanding the nerves
that went into talking to someone that you knew you would have
to impress to secure an allaince. It must have been quite a bit
of pressure on the man's shoulders, especially since impressing
women seemed to be alot more difficult than proving your worth
through knowledge and perhaps battle strategy for his brother.
"Well Mal, I am curious to see what lady eventually catches you
eye. I also hope that whoever your parents choose, she will be
kind and special. Goodness to be married to someone snooty and
boring sounds...undesirable." He stated before raising a brow at
that. "So your family chooses a lot in your life? Like they will
decide who you marry, what you do for work, and perhaps even
what your future will hold? Is that a Phonaxian thing or just a
Hythian thing?" He asked, hoping it wasn't rude but he was
genuinely curious about if Malachi was happy. He didn't seem all
that happy when he spoke of home...
The question about betrothals made Eir hum in thought before his
head shook. It was not all that complicated so he felt he could
explain it a bit. "No, not in the sense of my family choosing a
partner for me far in advance and us remaning bound in some odd
legal bond together. In all honesty, marriage in Glapera isn't
all that common because of how long we live and the need our
society sees with bolstering the numbers of our race. Betrothal
or even monogamy to an extent are not seen as necessary unless
there are stakes involved, since a union is usually only to have
children. My people are very...business oriented and direct with
things, so marriage is just a contract to set expectations
without any fanfare. I will be expected to marry someone of
standing when I take over as Lord of the Aluanas line upon my
father's retirment. But until them, I'm unattached unless I deem
it necessary." He looked then at his hands, fiddling with the
fingers there. "Lea is an interesting topic in all this. To be
honest, I was neglecting to really think about what exactly is
allowed. While I'm sure my family doesn't quite care if I see
her as a...fleeting thing...They wouldn't allow anything more,
as I'm sure her family wouldn't either. Bloodlines and status
are very vital to survival and her's would not be considered--"
He stopped himself, finding a pang in his chest at speaking ill
of her, even if it was to simply explain the situation. "Either
way, I enjoy being around her and I'm curious how things might
go. While expectations are not put upon us, why not enjoy it,
right?" He stated, though the question sounded less rhetorical
and more like he was unsure if his reasoning was correct.

Eir gave a noncommittal shrug as Eir wondered about what kind of
woman Mal would be attracted to. The Elvi lad had always drifted
toward the more petite and slender women with long legs and
sharp eyes. Something about a cool and elegant woman drew him,
perhaps more out of a desire for a challenge to make them
giggle.
The question about how life decisions were made drew a kind of
surprise out of him. Of course his parents had control in what
he did, after all he was a Hythian and they’d spent many years
building the reputation they benefited from.
“My family well... it has a reputation to uphold and a legacy to
protect. My family usually makes these decisions for me because
they ‘know best’ for me and what will make the Hythian name
stand. Not all families are held to this because... well they
don’t have the same societal expectations?”
Phonax was a monarchy with a feudalist system before they moved
to a democracy with the Truce. Though the Lords didn’t really
hold much offical power anymore, the family lines of those
houses were still influential; they had money, land, heritage
and social status to use instead.
Mal leaned back in the seat of the carriage and quirked an
eyebrow at the knowledge that marriage wasn’t really a big deal.
“Polygamy, now that’s an idea. I often can’t decide which woman
I favour most at times... perhaps I could manage them all. I’d
need a diary of some sort to ensure I schedule everything right-
might be awkward to have more than one on a date at a time”
He was partially joking, as he didn’t really desire more than
one serious attachment but the charismatic Lord had more than
once accidentally promised his time to multiple women- often
clashing.
“Marriage is really just a ritual. In earlier more primitive
times it was a significant spiritual thing people did. Once you
marry, your loyalty and soul is seemed to be bound to that
person. While the reason for marriage is not always love,
couples often grow to close”
Even his parents seemed... friendly at least. Though, it was odd
that there were only two children of the family and not more- as
was what was usual. Perhaps this was because they slept in
different wings with their own quarters? Malachi didn’t know
much of other families but he assumed the odd physical distance
was normal.
Mal listened to Eir dwell on the nature of his relationship with
Lae’Vera with interest. He seemed conflicted at heart with
sustaining a relationship that would ultimately not end in
marriage.
“Yes, well... I can’t see the harm in it. Perhaps if this
continues to develop- since you said monogamy wasn’t necessarily
a core value -you could maintain it should you ever be married.
While it is frowned upon in Phonax, I’m sure there are many a
lord who have a... mistress of sorts?”
The carriage pulled in front of the estate and Mal got out with
Eir, walking with him upstairs to the hall that joined both of
their wings. He listened to the reply of Eir but could think of
nothing more to say on the matter really.
,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;Some Time
Later,:“;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:”;,:“;
Malachi hung from his knees in the tree, blonde hair hanging
down about his face as it pinched in concentration. He held a
book in his hands and was reading- or attempting to read -a book
on philosophy. He had been working through a particularly dense
tome on philosophy that had been given to him by the general
tutor. Eventually the tutor wanted him to be so fluent in
Vs’Shtak that he could transcribe it entirely, but for now he
needed to read this chapter before his next lesson.
“Glaperan philosophers are a different breed...” he huffed from
his inverted position, looking down at Eir who was doing
something of his own in the shade of the tree.
“How in all that is good, is an apple proof that all ravens are
black? It’s ridiculous- It is an apple and is red. It is an
apple, therefore not a crow AND it is red, not black. Meaning
that further proves that all ravens are black since the apple is
neither black nor a raven...?”
He shut the book with a groan and dismounted from the tree,
thudding to the ground and flopping on the grass beside Eir.
“Want to go explore this afternoon?” he suggested, eager to get
out and do something fun.

Re: CHPT 0.11 Brothers (Malachi & Eir'Asa)
By: Kimcora Date: October 1, 2020, 3:40 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The days had been long and the time spent with Malachi
enlightening. In the few months Malachi had spent in the Aluanas
home, he was already becoming a regular member. He was
practically like a second son to Eir’s parents who began opening
more of their home and trust to him. It was hard not to when the
young man had a charm about him that was infectious. Even the
grandmother barbed words packed less of a punch, especially when
Malachi was able to answer her snide comments with some broken
Vs’Shtaak. Most of all, they enjoyed seeing the change in
Eir’Asa around the man that he was beginning to affectionately
call his brother. Eir was coming out of his shell, talking more
and sharing his thoughts more freely. The once shy and soft
spoken drake now seemed to find his voice, even if Malachi was
usually the one getting the brunt of his chatter. Not that the
two particularly minded, as Eir’s conversational repitiore was
also growing, stemming away from science journals and ancient
scrolls. Also, Eir listened to Malachi and tried to be a
sounding board for his thoughts and feelings. Often time it
divulged into some outing to have fun or less serious joking,
but Eir was happy for the moments where they could be honest
with one another. He had never had someone like that in his life
and he liked that he found that in Malachi.
It was even more fun to study now, as they often liked to do in
one of the garden courtyards at the manor. While Eir flipped his
way leisurely through a dense tone on observational medicine and
the implications of herbs in healing, Malachi was forced to read
philosophy. Eir has quite enjoyed philosophy, even if he
preferred the salient sciences to the study of thought. But he
saw its use, even if Malachi seemed to be a little frustrated
with it.
“Ilroevi!” (exactly!) He laughed, knowing Malachi’s question
was rhetorical. But the request to go explore that afternoon
when things would be a bit cooler made Eir give a hum of
thought. “Well I had hoped to finish my studies on Liph healing
with the inflicted sores of—“ He paused and realized he was
going into too much gorey detail to get to point. Right, not
everyone wanted to hear about infectious diseases. He simply
shut his book and gave Malachi a brighter smile.
“Let’s do it! I say we go try one of the...I think there is a
small festival down by the docks? It’s a festival for art but
they have performers and food and even cool shops. Of course my
parents usually don’t attend because it’s a bit...dicey at
night.” However his face gave way to a grin. “But what they
don’t know won’t hurt them. Besides, we can handle ourselves
just fine.” He said with a level of confidence that wouldn’t
have come from the drake without Malachi being nearby and with
him on this venture.
