       Brothers (Malachi & Eir'Asa)
By: DolittleMax Date: August 8, 2020, 9:22 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Phonax, a mighty a wealthy nation built on trade and seafaring.
Throughout Liphilius they are seen as a great nation with a vast
army and ancient culture. Even today the remnants of such
culture is seen in the architecture that dwarfs the busy
streets. One such house, a tall marble affair, belongs to the
Hythians. The house of the noble family of Hythians, rulers of
Phonax and head of their Elivette race. The pinnacle of
       elegance, grace and regality-
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU MALACHI!"
"AHHHH! WAIT- WAIT- WAIT- I SWEAR WHATEVER IT IS I DIDN'T DO
       IT!"
"WHY IN ALL THAT IS HOLY WAS MY HORSE FOUND ON THE TAVERN
       ROOF?!"
The familiar strains of brotherly quarrels echoed though the
mighty mansion, filtering softly onto the street where
passers-by paused for a moment before going about their
       business.
Malachi stood to one side of a servant, peering over their
shoulder at his enraged brother. Mathias' face was red and his
brow creased darkly as he tried to duck around get at his
       younger brother.
"Wh- Oh yeaaahhh...I forgot about that-" in this lapse of
concentration the servant was able to escape, leaving Malachi
open to his brother's attacks. Malachi was in a head lock and
       squirming to get free.
       "You stole my horse!"
       THUMP
"Owww- We're brothers! It's not stealing it's borrowing-"
"You put it on a tavern roof!"
Malachi switched the fight and now had his brother in a headlock
       "I got lost-"
       "LOST!?"
Malachi couldn't help but let out a laugh, meaning Mathias could
trip him and land him on his back. With Malachi pinned to the
floor beneath his brother, he had to face the music. Had he
stolen the horse and used his magis to put it somewhere he
wouldn’t find? Yes. Was he about to take the blame for it?
       Never!
"Lost?! Then why was it on a roof?!"
"You know my sense of direction is terrible" he said almost
seriously if it weren't for the cheeky glint to his eye. The two
       continued to rough house until-
       "ENOUGH!"
The brother's scrambled apart and stood, brushing themselves off
for their father. Malachi still had to stifle the grin as he
regained composure. Their father looked at them with his usual
scathing glare that peeled the paint from most people. He stood
quite tall, even for their species and struck an intimidating
figure with his white hair and deep blue clothes. Lord Hythian
was not a man to be trifled with. Before him he stared at his
two sons; completely unalike in manner yet strikingly similar in
appearance. Mathias kept his white hair to a shorter length, a
small knot at the nape of his neck was all that was required to
keep it from his face- as was customary in the ranks which he’d
been serving in. Malachi however kept his more golden hair long,
braids at his temples met at the back of his neck atop the free
flowing hair. Their clothing was also similar, though Mathias
had taken to wearing similar colours to what his father wore and
Malachi chose whatever he felt like; usually greens or white.
Their father assessed them a moment before gesturing for them to
       follow with a resigned sigh.
"I came to speak with my sons- my 43 and 65 year old sons -and I
come upon this? Get a hold of yourselves..."
They followed the head of the Hythian household into his study.
"Now, your mother and I have devised a plan for the next two
years. Mathias, as heir of the home-" Malachi rolled his eyes
"You will need to know in greater dealings the working of our
nation. You will be my apprentice of sorts... As for you
Malachi, I've organised for you to travel to Glapera-"
       "Sweet! A nice little hol-"
"A diplomatic mission and growth excercise for you. It won't be
some 'holiday', you'll be under watch by a very powerful family
the Aluana's who will educate you in their culture and language.
This is important as we look to strengthen our relations with
       them for future trade deals"
"Sounds... exciting" muttered Mathias with a smirk, Malachi
       glared at him.
A long sea trip later, one that Malachi thoroughly enjoyed for
it's scenery and fresh air, he was there. There on the docks.
Alone. It would be daunting if not for the overwhelming appeal
of being free from his family for an entire year. He squinted
and looked about. What these Aluanas looked like he had no idea-
and after a quick observation on his appearance compared to the
rest of the people at the dock... He figured they'd find him
just fine if he remained where he was and waited. He looked
about and could already see that it was much different here than
in Phonax; the stronger scent of spices, the odd language that
reached his ears as well as the people and how they looked. For
the most part he could spot horns and golden eyes- a common
trait for Draconians that he was not used to. It fascinated him
and he sat there at the dock people watching until the Aluanas
       found him.

       Re: CHPT 0.11 Brothers (Malachi & Eir'Asa)
By: Kimcora Date: August 9, 2020, 7:10 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The city streets of Sililos in Glapera were all a bustle with
the incoming ships and trade from all corners of the earth. The
ports were a magnificent sight to behold as it was the main
point of entry for foreigners and returning citizens. There
products and people from all nations could be observed,
something that wasn’t often seen in the secluded nation. Most
that lived outside Sililos never saw anyone but Draconians.
Therefore, one young draconian from Aurix was glued to the
window of the family carriage like he was watching a play. His
bright, wide golden eyes flirted from full crates of strange
fruits to rugs and animals of different walks of life. And the
people he saw, the strange races that milled about and
conversed, pushed his curiosity further. His mother said that
they were going to be hosting the son of a friend of his father,
a boy named Malachi Hythian. An elf, or so his uncle had
bellowed accusatory at his sister, Eir’Asa’s mother, as his
father announced this guest at a family gathering.
The room had been mixed in their reception of the news, mostly
because his mother’s side of the family were quite reserved in
their trust of outsiders. His mother once told him that they
were scared, small-minded people and that he shouldn’t listen to
them. But it was hard to ignore his uncle Adenthiir when he was
usually the loudest drake in the room and a proud supporter of
the group the Taaqturnok. So Eir’Asa reserves himself to being
the passive observer and minding his own business with his
books, which usually allowed him to escape the heated
conversations over family gatherings. He wasn’t sure what to
think of the foreigners that entered Glapera as of late, due to
a renewed interest in expanding the influence and partnerships
of their empire. He only knew that his father often had business
dealings with other races due to his involvement in trade. It
was why this strange boy would be coming to live with them for a
       year.
“Dask, what do Elvi even look like?” Eir’Asa piped up from the
seat next to his mother, his golden eyes trying to pinpoint
people in the crowd that may be Elvi. Surely they weren’t the
cat people nor the short ones without horns?
“Like people, dantheir.” Eir’Asa wanted to roll his eyes at his
mother’s response. Pragmatic as usual. “No matter what he looks
like, Eir, we must be welcoming to our new guest. Your father
expects you to help him feel at home here.” Her pointed
statement made Eir nod, even if he was slightly nervous about
that. What if this Malachi person hated him or what if Eir
didn’t quite like him? Eir was generally friendly to most, but
admittedly was quiet and shy around strangers. A year was a long
while to have to be around someone and he would be staying in
their estate. Hopefully, the Elvi weren’t as terrible as Uncle
       Adenthiir said...
“Okay, dask. I won’t disappoint, opsola.” He stated with a hint
of resolution in his tone that he would try his best to do right
by his father and this stranger.
As they reached the port, Eir stepped out with his mother, a
servant walking with them towards the port, mostly to carry
anything that Malachi may have brought with him. Eir’s eyes
searched the port for the sight of anything strange or out of
the ordinary. A hulking beast with claws, a man with two heads
and a tail, or perhaps a strange creature with multiple eyes.
Instead, his eyes were drawn to a tall, pale, blonde young man
that sat on a few of his belongings.
“Ah, there he is.” His mother’s statement made Eir’s forehead
wrinkle in confusion. This creature looked so normal... Surely,
Uncle Adenthiir wasn’t afraid of this stalky creature?
Eir followed along like a duckling behind his mother, almost
hesitant as they approached the stranger that would be joining
       them soon.
“Greetings, young lord Hythian.” His mother begins with a slight
curtsy towards the Elvi. “I am Fen'Ora Aluanas. And this is my
son, Eir’Asa.” She turns her body slightly, to allow a better
view of the young drake that was observing her from his place
just behind her. He looked a bit surprised to be so suddenly
introduced and seemed momentarily at a loss for words. Well, he
had let his curiosity over the elvi male get the better of him
and he had been appraising him. The Elvi weren’t unattractive
creatures, but held features that were distinctly different. For
one, he had such light eyes and hair and also strangely pointed
ears. Eir looked him over for signs of scales or horns, but
found none to his shock. Were these creatures bald? How did they
defend themselves against attacks or from flames? Surely they at
least had wings? Were they shapeshifters too? All these thoughts
rattled around in Eir’s head until he was caught unaware by his
       mother introducing him.
“Oh-Um-Malachi, is it? Please, call me Eir.” He gave a quick
bow, his gold adorned horns flashing in the light. He rose and
his head cocked slightly, his confusion still showing as he
tried to put together what was so threatening about the man.
“Please, allow our servant to care for your things. We have a
carriage prepared for the trip to our summer home.” Fen’Ora
announced to break the odd tension, placing a gentle hand on her
son’s shoulder. “I hope your journey was pleasant, yes? It’s
quite a distance from Phonax to our shores.” She said in Duthl
before she leaned into her son’s ear.
“It’s rude to stare, dantheir. It makes them uncomfortable.” He
blinked and glanced at his mother, eyes softening in apology at
       her light scolding.
“But where are his horns and scales? Are they shapeshifters, as
well?” He asked mistakenly in Duthl since he wasn’t great at
switching between the languages. Most around him spoke Vs’shtak
so he wasn’t quite used to using Duthl.
His mother gave her son a small sigh and gently patted his head.
“They don’t have horns or scales as they are not of dragons,
dantheir. But they find it rude to question their appearance.”
When he realized the mistake, he blushed and looked to Malachi,
a small panic rising in him. “I-I am sorry. I didn’t realize.”
He bowed again, now feeling terrible for offending the guest.

Malachi was humming to himself quietly, trying to ignore the few
odd looks he'd get from passers-by. He was almost tempted to get
up and go find himself something to eat while waiting if it
weren't for the greeting that pulled him from his hungered
thoughts. He stood quickly and gave the Draconian woman a formal
bow, lowering his eyes respectfully. His tutor had tried to
drill as much courtly behaviour into the young lord before he
left, though Malachi was a naturally charismatic young man. When
he straightened up again he flashed a bright smile, "Greetings
and well met Fen'Ora-" his gaze then flickered to the lad that
looked his age that she introduced and his smile widened. He'd
been staring quite intently, and if Malachi were bashful his
ears might have felt so hardly stared at they'd fall off. He
took only a moment to observe the young man, taking in his horns
and slight scales, before giving a formal bow and reaching to
shake his hand with a strong grip. He looked at his golden eyes
intently and with excitement. This could be a potential friend,
something new to the often 'protected' and isolated lordling.
"It is fantastic to meet you Eir'Asa!" he said cheerfully,
letting the servant take his things to the carriage "My journey
was long, but quite exciting and enjoyable. I have not sailed as
far as what I did this past month and I've found I quite like
       life at sea"
The entire trip to Malachi had been freeing and exciting; the
crew let him help with ship upkeep and one particularly bad
storm, he'd help secure the sails.
Eir'Asa's mother leant to whisper in his ear, though Malachi
could hear them quite well- though he understood them not.
However, the male's reply in the common tongue quite revealed
what they had been discussing. Someone less congenial might have
been offended and not amused, but Malachi found it altogether
       funny.
He took it upon himself to answer the queries that seemed to
hold no ill intent, "No need to apologise. I don't have horns or
scales- which is altogether quite a disadvantage if you ask me
-but my ears" he gave the tip of one a flick "Help me hear very
well. I can also hear very far and in the dark and move very
quickly. I've heard the Draconian species are quite fearsome in
battle with their morphing and teeth but alas-" he patted the
sword at his side "I would have to make do with this as I do not
       shape-shift"
Malachi followed the mother and son to the carriage which they
all got in, allowing Malachi an opportunity to observe out the
window without being observed. They rode a little while in
polite silence, but Malachi thought it best to try and learn a
bit more before they reached their destination.
"I must admit I've heard little of your household. My older
brother is usually the one who can place a name. I know of the
men of your house mostly, due to business, but are there many in
       the Aluana's family?"

Eir was admittedly intimidated when Malachi grabbed his hand.
The drake immediately wondered what the hell he was doing,
though he figured this was a Phonaxian thing. He took it in
stride however since the man seemed so cheerful and downright
friendly. It wasn’t what Eir expected, but it was a pleasant
surprise. The excited greeting made a smile tug at Eir’s lips.
His initial worry about this man fading in favor of actual
       interest.
Eir looked to the ship just behind Malachi, a bit of fascination
showing at the news his journey was exciting. He had always
wanted to see what was beyond Glapera’s shores, but his father
often warned he was far too young to take over the family trade
business abroad. So instead, they kept him home, managing the
affairs on the Glaperan side while his father handled the trade
       dealings elsewhere.
That still didn’t take the wanderlust from him nor make him any
less willing to ask about what made him like life at sea. It
must have been a new experience, but Eir was sure he would miss
his family. Wasn’t he homesick after being on a ship for so
long? Or perhaps this new experience was such that it dampened
       him missing home?
The silence in the carriage wasn’t uncomfortable since Eir was
used to quiet. But he did find himself wanting to know more
about Malachi, this stranger from a foreign land. But he knew
social rules dictated he couldn’t bombard him with questions.
Eir had a tendency to ramble and pry when he was trying to
figure something out. It wasn’t malicious, but he was just the
       academic sort like his mother.
So instead he waited for Malachi to speak to be courteous.
Hopefully he said something that would reveal more about him or
       left room for questions.
He asked about the size of the Aluanas family and told them he
knew little of them. Something about his brother being the one
that had to remember names as well. Oh so he had a brother? Eir
envied that briefly since he unfortunately didn’t have siblings.
His mother was very clear she was content with one child as it
left her room to still work on her healing and research without
having to care for too many. His father wasn’t opposed to it
since he was hardly around enough to manage more than one child.
Besides, Eir was a male heir and could carry on the family name
and parle with the nations that were more male dominant. That
was all they needed really. Still, Eir wished he had a sibling
to confide in or someone that understood the pressures of
       expectation. Perhaps Malachi did?
“It’s quite alright. My family is most known to Glaperan’s and
the Rosewaldean courts. Our extended family is much larger than
our immediate family. Your family has probably met my husbands
family as they are more willing to travel.” Fen’Ora stated and
Eir decided to speak as well to clarify.
“In the family home, it’s just me, mother, father, and my
grandmother. So you won’t have to remember too many names then,
Malachi.” Eir offered, hoping that relieved the man. However,
this was the opportunity that Eir wanted to ask more questions.
“So do you have a large family, Malachi? You mentioned a
brother?” He asked, wondering if Elvi had tons of siblings.

Malachi listened in interest as Fen'Ora explained the
connections between two families. He'd have to remember that for
any conversations that may occur where he needed this. The young
lord wasn't sure if the Glaperan court was anything like the
Phonaxian one, but these small details could be the making or
breaking of a relationship; one must always be aware of
everything they say. His attention then flickered to Eir'Asa who
actually spoke up. He described the immediate household, which
was what he'd been most interested in. Darn... No sisters. Ah
well, Malachi was sure it would be a good time none the less.
This Eir- though pretty quiet at this point -didn't seem all too
bad. Malachi was sure he could pull the guy from his shell with
       enough time. Simply a grandmother, father, mother and the lad;
       Malachi could handle that.
To the inquiry into his own family, he felt that slight
resentment when he thought about it. If Malachi had said that it
was a family of three- his brother, mother and father -he
wouldn't be far off. Malachi was the 'extra' in the family. Not
the heir, not the most responsible, nothing extraordinary.
Compared to the rest of his family he was nothing of interest
and that was how they treated him. He was the trouble-maker, the
nuisence, the one they sent to be taught by tutors rather than
his father and mother like Mathias had... With a tight smile he
       decided he'd simply be factual.
"My house is father, mother, my older brother Mathias and I. We
have servants of course, but there are no more Hythians save
those. My mother has never really been fond of child-rearing"
The last sentence had slipped in unintentionally and he gave a
hurried chuckle to brush it off as humour or a light joke. He
wasn't sure what to follow that up with and his mind scrambled
for some kind of small talk.
"The style of architecture is quite different here than in my
homeland. It seems much more... warm? Everything we have is made
of marble or pale stone. Very white. Very plain. Grand mind you-
but... cold. Your streets and houses seem much more lively and
       eclectic. It's refreshing."

Eir’s notes something shift in Malachi, despite the smile on his
face. Why did it seem like he didn’t like talking about his
family? Eir was about to apologize and tel him not to answer,
but Malachi seemed to respond anyways. The news that he had a
family unit much like Eir’s was good to hear, but it was strange
to hear his mother didn’t quite like children. His mother had
said before she didn’t want more children, but never said she
didn’t like raising him. Had Malachi’s mother said that to him?
Eir jumped slightly when he suddenly laughed and looked a bit
confused. Fen’Ora gave a chuckle along with him since she could
sense something was off. Call it mother’s intuition. “Well, they
raised a lovely young man. That’s all that counts.” She told him
gently before her eyes went to the city streets. They were
familiar to her and quite a scale of growth from the ancient to
the new and modern. The city was constantly under construction
with advancements and thoughts to keep moving forward and
improving. That was the Glaperan way. The colors would be
vibrant due to the islands rockiness and lack of color greenery
near the shore. It was lovely in Sililos most of all because it
was the hub of culture for Glapera Anyways.
“Well Sililos is where our cultural centers are. The theaters
and museums and libraries. It’s Glapera’s gem that we hope to
one day share with the world.” Fen’Ora’s answer was diplomatic
and precise while Eir looked excited by the mere prospect.
“They have the best libraries that are full of information from
top researchers on the continent. Oh and even books from other
places like Phonax!” He said with a bright enthusiasm that made
his mother give a small nod.
“Also beaches and a thriving social life for you young ones.
I’ll send an escort with you two so you can experience the city
during your stay here, Malachi.” Fen’Ora stated and Eir gave a
       small nod.
“What do they have to do in Phonax? Maybe we can find things you
like here, Malachi?” He asked, thinking that already he was
going to have a culture shock with dinner once they got home.
The servants were preparing a wholly draconian dinner, one that
was mostly meats and some vegetables to offset it. They enjoyed
more Arabic seasonings in their foods, but of course that was
due to their past influences from when they were a part of the
       Kymera.

He listened as she gave a narration on the area around them,
speaking of theatres, museums and libraries. Malachi wondered if
these places were much different from the ones at home; if the
libraries were in the common tongue or whatever it was the
Glaperans spoke. It would be an interesting year, that was for
sure. He blinked when suddenly the quite one errupted in
excitement, rambling on about the collections in the libraries
and researchers- answering his question on Phonaxian books -and
brightening at the idea. Malachi blinked.
Gods he must be an intellect-
Malachi gave a nod, not sure how to respond to that when Fen'Ora
interjected with more suggestions for past times. It wasn't that
Malachi didn't like reading and all... it was just that he
mostly read when 'confined to his chambers' as punishment. To
willingly go and read was something of a novelty.
The mention of beaches however, excited him. His own parents
hadn't taken them to beaches as his father hated sand and the
way the wind smelt; Malachi had simply never been able to get
there himself. Though, a cheeky glint entered his expression at
the mention of an escort. Now that was something he'd have to
       work around.
He looked to Eir'Asa and Fen'Ora with a greatful nod, "I'm eager
to experience all your people have in store"
These words echoed through his mind as he clambered out of the
carriage to look at the quite grand building. Not a marble
ice-palace, that was for sure- but it was quite stunning and
grandiose. Malachi tilted his head and looked over to his hosts,
following their lead. He didn't want to offend anyone on his
first day- he usually save that for a week or two in. With a
flick of the hand, he pushed his golden hair over his shoulder
and bent to pick up one case of luggage. A part of him was eager
to see if he could acquire clothing more similar to theirs in
order to assimilate more. That and he had a fondness for nice
       clothes.

The servants that left the home to come and cater to the family
looked mortified when he tried to pick up the bag. One of the
women gave him a quick scolding word in Vs'shtak before
flurrying his hands away to grab the bag. Eir went over to
Malachi and gave him a small look of sincerity. "It's considered
rude for a guest to carry their own things in a home. She was
saying it's her duty to do such so you do not strain yourself."
He said, since he was sure the Elvi didn't speak their language.
However, before they could converse more, Fen'Ora ushered them
inside to the main foyer of the home. There a larger man with a
warriors build clothed in rich reds and an older woman in a
wheelchair sat observing the entering group.
"Opsola! You're back." Eir made his way from his mother's side
to his father, who gave a bit of a jovial chuckle as he hugged
       Eir briefly.
"I told you this would be a short trip, Dantheir. Besides I
couldn't leave your mother and you to entertain our guest
alone." He looked then to Malachi as he released Eir.
"Welcome, Malachi. I'm your father's business associate
Aharon'Jae Aluanas." He gave a quick bow as that open and warm
smile remained. The man was clearly a people person, something
that didn't favor his serious wife and quiet son. "My, you look
just like our father. Less stern looking though." He stated as
he observed Malachi standing there. Fen'Ora gave her husband a
clearing of her throat, a critical look in her eyes.
"What? I'm just suggesting he may enjoy his time here a bit
more. Trust me. You'll love the city. You're actually the first
Elvi to get this opportunity so we will be sure to make the best
time of it." His cheerfulness and excitement was not mirrored by
the decrepit drake in the chair. She watched Malachi with
slitted and critical eyes, before finally speaking up.
"Greetings. Welcome to our home. Now that we are all here. Let
us have dinner prepared. I'm starving." It was clear where the
mother got her award winning personality. Both seemed cold and
       reserved.
"First we must let him settle. You will be on the guest wing,
near my son's quarters. You will have staff assigned to you that
will be at your beck and call. They speak minimal Duthl but you
will learn Vs'shtak in time." Fen told him before gesturing for
said servants to come to show him to the guest room. Eir gave
him a small wave to let him go to his room.
The guest room would be over the gardens, a view of the sea and
open air windows due to the coolness of the shade. He even had a
trellace that went down the side of the balcony...perfect for
       sneaking out...
Soon he would be summoned to dinner, taking up a seat by the
family at the large family. The meals were large and varied in
spices and types. "Try anything you like. Oh, and tomorrow when
you're rested we will be taking you to town to have you shopped
for to your content." Aharon said as he forked some of the meat
       from a nearby roasted beast.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Malachi blinked in surprise at the short flurry of foreign
tongue; he tilted his head curiously though getting the general
understanding from the sharp tone. Or was it normal for the
language to sound that aggressive? Either way, he gave a
greatful and quick bow, nodding to Eir'Asa as he explained. This
wasn't a custom strange to him, as in Phonax guests would be
treated similarly, but it was better to attempt carrying his own
things and be waved off rather than leave them there and look
like a spoiled brat if no one got them.
"I see" was all he replied as he followed behind Fen'Ora and her
       son.
The entrance hall was beautiful and decorated in rich, warm
colours with tapestries. Everything here seemed warmer than what
he'd come to learn as normal; echoing halls, cold marble floors,
blue and silver decor and little carpeting. Here the rich woods
in the construction, the bright reds and the sounds and smells
his Elvi senses could already detect made him feel a little more
at ease. His thoughts were brought to as Eir'Asa rushed forward
to greet this 'Opsola?' person. From the warm greeting, Malachi
assumed this was Aharon'Jae Aluanas; his father's trade partner.
The pleasant greeting only confirmed this and Malachi gave a
respectfully deep bow, crossing his arm over his chest and
placing a palm over his heart. It was Elvi custom to give this
greeting to important figures or people above your status,
usually the man of the house. He straightened up and gave a
small grin of amusement as his appearance was once more
commented on- and again such observations scolded -before his
mouth opened a little at the revelation that he was the first of
his kind in the city. He had thought his father to have simply
brushed him aside to focus on Mathias and hadn't realised what
consequences his actions might have, not only on his own
       reputation, but on his kinds.
"I am most greatful for your hospitality and openness to my
coming here-" he would have gone on to make a suitable
compliment to the home but he was prevented from doing so by
what he assumed was the grandmother who eyed him in an almost
       accusatory manner.
At the dismissal and being led to his room, he wondered if there
were anyone in Phonax who spoke Vs'Shtak whom he might be able
to practice on when he returned home. Of course, his mother
would be mortified to hear anything other than their own tongue
in front of her. She even frowned upon the amount of Duthlul he
spoke with the servant- how much he spoke with the servants full
stop... He looked about the room, getting his things set out
quickly and taking a moment to look about. It was all similar to
what his rooms at home consisted of at home- sans such an easy
getaway route (something he noted with approval) He quickly
attended to his appearance before joining them at dinner.
Malachi had been seated next to Eir'Asa, across from his
grandmother who sat next to his mother. His father was at the
head of the table next to wife and son. His sensetive nose
already tingled at all the spices he could smell, so when
Aharon'Jae gave the signal to dive in, he hardly knew where to
start. He played it safe and copied Eir's choices, some rice and
meat that smelt so good his mouth watered.
A tentative bite and his eyes widened in awe, "This-" he made
sure to swallow "is fantastic. So rich- We never have this kind
of seasoning on our food in Phonax"
After finishing that serve, he spotted a bowl of what seemed to
be a kind of red broth; thick and creamy with meat. He ladled
himself some, nose picking up that this one seemed a little
spicier. Without hesitation, he put a spoonful in his mouth,
only for him to freeze in terror. The wave of inferno was
immediate and potent. His eyes welled up and in an attempt to
rid it from his mouth, he swallowed. A bad mistake- he began to
feel the burn light up his throat. Gracefully, he tried to rid
the coughing fits with clearing his throat as he reached for
water. Downing a whole glass, he downed another before finally
panting and letting out a cough as he tugged at his collar. It
must have been a sight to see and he glanced around the table
       with a sheepish chuckle.
"It seems my Elvi palate has been awoken to... new levels of
       flavour-"

Dinner was quiet in the beginning as most of the food had
already been blessed in the recent festivals of Thriina only
days ago. Eir took that opportunity to observe what their guest
would do. He didn’t expect Malachi to follow his lead, nor for
the man to actually be willing to try the food. He supposed he
was hungry enough to put aside the fact it was foreign. Gladly,
it didn’t seem to poison the man’s opinion of Eir’s home and he
in fact seemed to like it. The comment about not having this
kind of seasoning in his food made Eir hum in thought. Was it
really that different? If so he wanted to try it.
“I’ve had the Phonaxian spread. It isn’t bad, but they
definitely do things..differently. I’m glad we could expose you
to something better, eh?” Aharon goaded in good humor, though
his wife simply nodded as she took a sip from her own curry that
she had on her plate. The table was filled with minor
conversation, mostly because they were discussing Aharon’s trip
to Idesh in Duthl. Eir was fascinated to hear how the Elvi there
lived and how there were even beings called Dwellers there.
Apparently their anatomy was quite strange according to his
mother, who had treated a wide variety of patients in her years
as a healer for the military. He had always wanted to go into
the same profession, but was sure he would be expected to take
up the mantle of his father’s trade business. Even if Eir sucked
at mingling and wooing potential clients, he would endeavor to
try for his father’s sake. Besides, people weren’t really that
hard to figure out. After all, Malachi was reaching for
something new to try, something Eir sensed would
       end...interestingly.
Like a scientist observing how a test would run out, he even
watched him reach for the affectionately called “Dragon’s Breath
Curry”, a delicacy from the old world that his grandmother
preferred. It was meant to mimic the fire the ancients could
spit and even Eir got a bit overwhelmed by the spice. He should
have perhaps warned the man, but he didn’t know if Phonax had
       dishes that spicy or not.
The man’s struggle with the spice made Eir’s eyes widen some and
for a moment he wondered if he had inadvertently killed him. He
reached out and grabbed another glass of water and placed it
before the Elvi male, before turning in his seat to ask the
servant for some milk tea to help with the burning. However,
when Malachi gave a chuckle, the table seemed to ease and Aharon
gave a bit of a chuckle. “I would say so. You’ll be eating it
like a true drake by the time you leave.” He told Malachi and
Eir couldn’t help that a laugh bubbled from him as well.
“Dragon’s Breath Curry is the strong stuff. So for now, I’ll let
you know which are the spicy things.” He gestured to a few
dishes, warning that if it was reddish in any way it would have
       the pepper they culturally used.
After the small lesson, Eir passed along a few things for him to
try before he finally decided to ask a question of the Elvi. “So
what’s it like in Phonax? Are people like you? You make it
sound like it’s quite different.” Eir asked since he knew little
       to nothing about Phonax.
