Harbor Freight Cabinet

SInce no one has posted in this section yet I thought I would
break the ice.
I own the bench top version of the Harbor Freight blasting
cabinet. While definitely a budget model, as anything from HF
is, I am real pleased with it. When I bought it there was a kid
there helping out and I asked him if the cabinet came with a gun
and he said he didn't think so. So I also purchased a small 20lb
pressure pot. Low and behold when I get it home and open it up
it has the siphon gun in the kit.
I have used the cabinet with the siphon style gun and also fed
the hose for the pressure pot in through the air intake hole and
used the pressure pot gun in there too. My experience to date is
that the pressure pot produces a much more volatile sand stream
and definitely gets the job done more effectively however is
also a much much bigger pain to use. Were I blasting marble and
stones that require a lot more effort the pot would be far
better but for the glass and plastic that I have been etching
the siphon gun is way quicker and simpler for a quick shot.
I did purchase an air dryer and a pressure regulator that I hard
mounted on the back of the cabinet to keep out the moisture and
regulate the pressure to the gun. This kept my regular
compressor functions the way I had them and I just quick connect
the hose and start blasting.
I have a 40lb container of AO #70 grit from HF but it was
leaving a dark residue on things, even a little on glass so I
switched to some crushed white porcelain that a local supplier
makes in town and it is cleaner and a little cheaper, they call
it "White Lightening". So far it has not pounded down too small
and is still going great. It is #100 grit. Has no silicosis
worries which was another consideration since I do this in my
garage. With the vacuum attached I don't get any real dust
showing up and am very pleased. I did have to modify the vacuum
attachment as it was too small to fit my Rigid brand vacuum. I
used some pvc pipe fittings to revamp the attachment point and
added a 90deg downturned elbow to help reduce the amount the
vacuum caught.
Overall I would classify the HF cabinet as one of the "safe"
things to buy there. The free standing unit looks good too but I
needed to be able to move mine out of the way. I can lift the
whole cabinet and move it by myself even with the 50lb bucket of
"White Lightening" still in the bottom. I'm a big guy though so
maybe I'm just real strong. LOL

I have been looking at this same cabinet. Was wondering how well
it would hold up.

There are a lot of reviews on YouTube about this specific
cabinet and I personally was hesitant in getting it that's why I
built my own. But nice hearing from a member how good it is. Now
I wish I would have bout it when it was below 100. Is it true
that you have to get some foam tape to seal it on its edges?

Dont laugh...I am building my cabinet outta this tank...Cut some
of the framing and well I can see it working

Petro that's a big tank your going to have lots of room to etch
