Mal's zooming thoughts rivaled the busy racetracks of Sartor,
each of which collided into eachother, thrashing about in a
tangled mess inside of his mind. It's how he imagined it felt
like when Mouse talked a out robotics short-circuiting. It
somehow both stung less and more than he imagined it would, but
nothing compared to seeing her here. Lana. The name like the
memory of a brand on his chest. It left him with a feeling, the
wound still searing hot and all too tender to poke at.
He could scarely force his eyes to look at her for little more
than a moment at a time, his eyes always drifting to her
shoulder, his words always dying on his lips along with all the
questions he never got to ask. The rage. The regret. All of them
driving him to hold his tongue so hard he phsyically drew blood
from the effort. The sensation of the pain a welcome temporary
distraction as he moved to go collect more of his regrets from
the arcane room. Erobas and the Shard that held the spirit of
vengeance. He owed a promise to defeat the knights and it only
felt right that Erobas fight along side him now that he's come
this far.

Lana had expected her reappearance to be met with shock and
perhaps surprise. She was no fool, even though the time that
passed for her had felt literal, in this place, barely any time
seemed to have passed. Although that didn't seem to have stopped
Mal from moving on. The fearsome demon woman battling with a
copy of herself garnered more than one concerned look of longing
from the man, clearly in the throes of some sort dilemma.
It was nearly a certainty that she was walking back into a sh!t
show, considering the terms of her return in the Occulus.
"You must have someone or some reason to return,
otherwise, you will not." The forlorn warning still echoed in
her mind. Lana never doubted that her friends back here would
need her but she was entirely uncertain as to what the reason
would be. Beating the brakes off of that smug guild master was
definitely a welcome surprise though.
Someone should've done that a long time ago, Lana thought to
herself, pleased that Mal had swiftly finished off the
treacherous Goliath. She couldn't quite remember how to address
him in the way she once would have and, in truth, she knew that
was likely one of the worst things she could do to him now.
Despite everything, she still cared for him but in all the time
she had been gone, she didn't have any more answers as to how to
tell him, or if she even should. However, there were some
contingencies she had prepared for.
"You wanna know how I lost 'em?" Lana suddenly blurted out as
they ran through the back streets of Yarrow. "My eyes, that is."
She added, unsure immediately of her decision on an ice breaker
topic. "It didn't have anything to do with you." Her final words
were as straight as an arrow, piercing directly into Mal's ears,
for better or for worse.

Mal's expression twists and contorts before forming into
something between anguish and exasperation as Lana pipes up
sudde ly. There were millions of conversations he had run
through his head in preparation for if this day ever came but
not a single God dammed one could have prepared him for whatever
the f:ck was happening in this moment. This.... rather
complicated reuion could not have come at a more complicated
point of his life. He could feel every muscle in his body tensed
as he halted go a dead stop, Lana who was following his stopping
just short of running into him. She seemed more graceful and
sure of her movements than he ever remembered seeing her, and
all without her eyes. He didn't know whether to be horrified or
impressed.
"You seemed to have adapted to it pretty good." He complimented
her, it seemed genuine but more reserved as if a half truth. Mal
couldn't stop thinking about how the only reason she lost her
sigh is because she left... claiming to want to help him, even
after everything he did. The whole interaction felt like an old
wound reopening from the scab Damian had picked the week before,
but Mal had bigger things than himself to be worrying about.
There were people counting on him, everyone needed him to get
his sh!t together, now! Yet even as he moved with purpose
towards Jaryn's location he couldn't stop himself from asking.
"What happened to you?..."

Lana gave a cocky smile, as if to disarm Mal in place of showing
the ache she felt still simmering below the surface. "Turns out,
I was using my ability wrong this whole time." She explained
while coaxing him back to a run, keeping up briskly alongside
him. "I wasn't ever meant to literally read the future, that
much was clear to everyone except for me, back then." Her words
picked up a soft reverence as she brought up the older version
of herself. It was clear she viewed that older self as someone
who had died quite some time ago.
"When you go to the Occulus, you get to make a choice." Lana's
swift footwork slowed a bit as the words caught a bit in her
throat. As her fist tightened, so did her words. "I was born
with the gift of clarity, but the irony is that I didn't know
how to use it. For the price of my peepers, I got to figure out
what it is actually for, and how to master it!" Lana gently
settled into the bravado she had suddenly reappeared wielding,
it made things hurt less to bring up.
It was clear Lana had changed, especially outwardly, but things
beneath the surface were held together with far less certainty.
It was refreshing to actually get into the real world and test
her abilities, seeing just how far she had come. It was a good
reminder of the things in her life she still had under control.
Despite all the training she had gone through, emotional control
wasn't among the techniques she learned. Hence, she learned to
rely on the only pillar of strength she truly had left in her
mind: The man she first fell in love with. Even if the version
in her mind wasn't any closer to the truth, she felt a certain,
undeniable comfort in the thought all the same.

"Damn... that's kinda tragic but cool you seem to be on the

mind was desperate to fill the pauses in the air. "F:ck... what
I meant to say was..." He paused a soft glowing aura circulating
around him as he cast gift of gab to get another try at saying
something more... honestly he wasn't sure what he was going for
he just knew it couldn't be that.
"Lana... I-" He pauses as if trying to formulate the right words
before simply settling. "We're lucky to have a helping hand from
anyone who can lend a hand." His voice was warm, but it was
clear he felt conflicted about her being around him. There were
dozens of reasons he felt that way, the incident, her leaving,
Kai! But Mal had too much on his plate to be unpacking all of
that here on an empty battle field, something he was mature
enough to have out grown with most people aside from Damian...

"Right." Lana answered back with slight hesitation. She had
always been able to read the aura of people, allowing her to
possess an often unfortunate amount of insight into any given
situation. It wasn't just the insight into any given person's
truthfulness, but also the shape of their aura, or, other words,
the shape of their soul.
Soulshapes were as different as personalities, some resembled
one another but would still be uniquely identifying within
themselves. Mal's shape had always been unlike anything else
Lana had ever seen. Since losing her sight, Lana's sense of
extraplanar shaping had only grown stronger in its place. With
her new clarity, Lana finally saw everything that was Mal's
shape. It was powerful, perhaps even a bit prideful as well, but
it possessed a sturdy form, indicative of loyalty and truth. At
the edges, however, there were thorny protrusions, as if the
shadows of his heart were trying to get in... or out. Bleak,
black mirrors stretched below it all, as endless as they were
reflective, and showered his frame with a contrasting wash of
bright light and plunging darkness.
The whole of Mal's soulshape was far bigger than she ever had
thought before. The only souls that were comparable to his in
weight that Lana had seen thus far was Damien's and Kai's. As if
she were relieved, Lana sped back up, threatening to leave Mal
behind. "I can see I'm not the only one that got stronger while
I was away." She called with a light and airy tone, the genuine
truth of her words were apparent.
Just as the pair broke out into the neighboring street, a sudden
burst of air and rubble were assaulting the pair. Lana was
already in action as the street opened, tucking and weaving her
way through. Mal did the same but continued moving onward,
refusing to let the burst slow him down. Lana already knew what
was motivating him and it was her..
Despite not having eyes, Lana's expressions remained similar to
before, her apparent disapproval was on wide display, though she
tried to stay out of eye sight. As the dust cleared, Lana
finally got a good look at her, well, the two that were
fighting. Both abnormally large women's bodies collided in
fearsome and savage clashes. The force of their impacts were
enough to shake the panels of nearby buildings. As Meli was now
close enough, her soulshape became detectable. Lana, being
unable to contain her curiosity, drank in the sight.
What a sight it was. Meli's soul was a simple, swirling mass of
orange and black fire. Every so often a faint effigy of her own
self would appear among the mingling flares, peering out as if
she were watching back. The sheer volume of her energy is what
shocked Lana into a mouth agape stare. It was easily the
largest, and most dangerous looking soul Lana had ever felt.
It was undeniable.

As Lana watched on a few moments more, it was clear that Mal's
new flame was a total powerhouse. The prolonged fight Meli and
her doppelganger waged in the streets began to reduce the roads
and posts around them to little more than errant embers. It
seemed Mal had also come to terms with how out of the ability to
help Him and Lana were as she caught up to him, steadily
standing in the street watching the battle unfold.
"She'll be fine." Lana said sternly. "But a whole lot of other
people won't be if we keep picking our noses." She finished with
a swatting slap at the man's shoulder. She knew that regardless
of how much had changed in her absence, Mal was always going to
be a pragmatist at heart. As the battle was heating up, gravel
and loose stones flung upward, splashing on Lana and Mal's
forms, indicating things were once again heating up. Both images
of Meli erupted into a vaporous inferno as they pounced onto
each other, struggling with all the force of elephants against
each one's own overwhelming strength.
"Come on, even if you get in the middle of that, you're only
gonna be squished like a bug!" Lana insisted, feeling her own
body moving away from the ongoing struggle. "Same goes for me."

Mal's shoulder twitched from her sudden contact, shaking his
mind like one of those children's divination orbs that mostly
said 'Try again later.' An involuntary growl rose up from his
throat as he tore his gaze away from the warring Meliora's. He
had to trust her, she had promised to handle the mimic and if it
weren't for her keeping it busy, more people would be in a lot
of danger. Though... if she had mentioned that Eldris might have
had his sights set on Yarrow to begin with.... If she had just
trusted him enough to share her thoughts- no. He couldn't let
the torrent of his own twisted feelings on the matter cloud his
mind, not now. Yet he also couldn't help the twisted mix of rage
and disappointment he felt, the worst part was he couldn't stop
wondering what he could have done differently. Thankfully his
legs carried him onward, moving as rapidly as his churning
thoughts.
The pair bobbed and weaved through the streets making their way
to an all too familiar street as Mal's frustrations began
reaching a boiling point upon reaching high-town. He glanced at
Lana's form moving along beside him, like a ghost navigating
it's old haunting grounds as they passed by her old place. He
bit back the urge to snap and ask her what she was even doing
here, why now, why here, why?! Mal could feel his breakfast
rising up like bile. A meal he had shared with his newfound
family, Meliora and the kids, all felt so far away now. Like he
was waking up from a dream only for everything to be replaced by
the nightmare he once believed his life to be, something he
thought he had finally out run.
You'd think he'd have learned that the past had a way of
unburying itself. His sister; now an otherworldly monster. His
mother; prisoner to the very grove she served. Erobas; a martyr
chained to vengeance. Damian; a fledgling god of death. And now
Lana.... and whatever the hell she had become. Everyone he lost
always had a way of finding him again, changed. He was beginning
to wonder if he ruined everything he touched. And so, Mal did
what he always did when he was trying to protect himself in the
moment; he pushed everyone away.
[glow=red,2,300]"You know back there, saving braun thanks... but
with Haymond, I had it handled. I didn't need your help."[/glow]
He grit his teeth as the words left him, spoken not for the sake
of his pride but for something more wounded, his heart. Before
he had a chance to turn and carry on towards the Guild Hall his
orb springing to life. Hovering into place just beside him as
the visage of Mouse reflected in its surface. "Hey
Mal, I lost eyes on the Guild. Uncle Jare was still there last I
could ping his orb... Please hurry- Oh my gosh is that?!" The
orb swooped circling around Mal's shoulder before he could
protest as Mouse got a better look at who was behind him. "Lana!
It's so good to see you again, Mal didnt mention you were coming
to help, we could use all the hands on deck we can get! Can't
wait to catch up but first I gotta get back to work, I have an
idea." Then the orb went dark, the silence of the absence of
Mouse's voice feeling palpable as Mal turned to move onward,
picking up his pace, and perhaps out run the awkwardness of the
situation.

Lana barely listened as Mal said his piece on what happened with
Haymon and Braun, her eyebrow raising with unimpressed
appraisal. Just as her lungs inflated with sarcasm, her retort
was cut off by the sudden appearance of Mouse via the orb Mal
had been using while zipping around the streets. Again, the
exchange was so sudden that she could only offer the familiar
voice an upturned chin and a "sup". In times past, Lana would
have at least tried to offer some sort of supplement to the
conversation but after the sea of darkness she had swam through
up to this point, the momentary pleasantness of seeing someone
she cared for seemed so much less significant. It was something
she resented about her time in the Oculus but, oddly enough, the
one person she knew felt the same way often, was Damien, and he
wouldn't even look at her anymore. Lana could only wonder what
he had gone through in her absence as well.
Everyone changed in one way or another, it was just the natural
way of time.
Shoving down the murky feelings, Lana settled back into her
borrowed bravado and chased after the now vanishing Mal. As she
caught up to him once more, she approached his open side. "Look
man, whatever you've got going on in there, let's not be
distracted at a time like this." She clicked her tongue just
like she used to when settling into a chastising groove. "It's
not just you that needs me. This whole city and everyone in it
needs every ally they can get and it's only going to make things
harder if you fight that fact. Let's get it together and stop
nerfing ourselves for these a$$holes and take them out like the
under rated trash they are." Her chastising turned to a sneer as
her face turned to the now ruined central tower. A lone hand sat
exposed amongst the rubble, almost as though it were laid
directly in their path with intention.
"More good people are going to die with each second we waste
fighting each other. Don't let the sacrifices already made be
shadowed by your own colossal ego."
Her words were like venom but the potency laid in the truth.
