WHAM! A cloth wrapped fists pounded away on a punching bag that
dangled from the corner of Lyra's "apartment" in the Maw. It
reality it was little more than was a small, cellar level room
with port facing windows with little more than iron bars to
offer as protection from the elements. It had a penchant for
flooding a bit, particularly during rowdy high tides or after
strong storms blew through. Had been a right nasty storm off the
coast a few months back that even ruined a few of her belongings
but she was always careful to store her valuable's under the
section of rafters that stayed driest.
Wiping the sweat off her forehead with her hand, she turned and
glanced as the stretching rays of sun. It was almost evening and
in this light it looked more like a prison cell than a home but
Lyra had never really seemed to mind. It's not like she'd ever
bring anyone back here. Going out and about was all fine and
dandy, crash on a sofa or two, maybe even get lucky and score a
bed to share until first light. Then she'd disappear once more,
never really getting close to anyone outside of a select few
like her band mates; but even then she wasn't one to share much
       about her personal life.
Lyra dropped her firsts to her side pausing to remember if they
had band practice or not today. Abby had been busy a lot lately,
she had been doing "big girl" stuff as they had all joked.
Honestly she didn't mind, but it certainly left her to her own
thoughts more often as of late; for better or for worse. She
walked over to an oval mirror that was hung on the wall, it's
bottom third discolored green in hue from the tide and it's
ornate frame peppered with small barnacle clusters. Lyra looked
over her reflection, swishing her silvery mottled hair out of
her face as her eyes inspected the snowy freckled face that
stared back at her. She applied a bit of charcoal to her last
line and smudged it about before giving a nod of approval before
turning to leave, snatching her over-sized jacket as she stormed
       out the door.
The large black oiled leather jacket was lined with a soft plush
fur along it's cuff and hood, it made her already petite frame
appear even smaller by comparison. As it often seemed to slide
off of her shoulders or slouch down and it's bottom hem hung
parallel of her thighs. It was waterproofed and warm, a strange
sort of comfort item to keep about in such a hot climate such as
the Maw bit she had her reasons, leaving her rarely seen without
it in some capacitiy even if it was simply tied by the sleeves
to dangle around her waist. It's back was covered in patches,
monograms that were hand stitched and other various quotes or
lyrics. It was clearly well loved and held a storied history.
She paused turning back to grab the guitar case stuffed up into
the rafters that housed her bass. Lyra's half tied boots pounded
up the cellar steps swinging open the door.
The salty air filled her lungs as she took a deep breath and
scurried the rest of the way onto the street, the cellar doors
bouncing shut as she tore off down the way dodging and weaving
her way through the crowded streets as she made her way to The
Reef slowing down only as she pushed through the doors inside.
She was clearly winded by grinning a sharp seal fanged smile as
she arrived. "Oi!" She said with an apologetic chuckle, greeting
to the familiar form of Abby. Lyra leaned with her hands on her
knees as she caught her breath finally. "Hope I'm not too late,
       got a bit side tracked."

When Abby finally got to the Reef, she was out of breath as
well, barely making it by the agreed upon time herself. It was
no surprise that Phoebe, the group's percussionist had beaten
her but the other two members, Max and Lyra were nowhere to be
seen yet. "Don't... Uh..." Abby began with precious little air
       left in her lungs.
"[color=orange]Don't tell Max and Lyra, got it." Phoebe's dry
voice answered back before her mouth broke into a cool grin.
"All that 'grownup' work has you by the balls now, huh?" The
woman said adjusting her glasses to mask her chuckle.
"Thanks." Abby replied as she slammed into the bar and let out a
sigh of relief. "The usual please." She said without even
needing to turn to the barkeep. In short order, a glass of the
driest red wine the bar had made an appearance next to her. A
scent of lush berries and fig filled the air, the first whisper
from the wine begging to be sipped on. When the crimson liquid
met Abby's mouth, the bitter tang of the wine seemed to
       reinvigorate her, steeling her nerves.
"That's what mama needed after this week." She said with a tired
chuckle. Phoebe listened intently, as she often did, happy to be
an ear for Abby. For a few moments, the pair chatted and caught
up, comparing the scale of their current projects and work this
week. Before long, however, the door flew open with an
exasperated Lyra sailing through, nearly kicking one of the
bouncers in the face as she did so.
"Woah there, Tiger." Abby cautioned as the small woman came
flying up to her band mates. "You know I set the meet up time
knowing you're gonna be late, right?" She said with another good
natured chuckle. "It's fine, really, it gave Pheebs and I a
chance to get caught up anyway." Her features softened before
she gave a sigh. "It's been too long since we've all gotten to
do that, let alone play a gig." A sheepish guilt washed over
Abby for a moment until she pivoted, spinning the neighboring
bar stool on her left and tapping the seat, coaxing her friend
       to join her.
As Lyra climbed to the top of the stool, Abby spun herself to
face the bar, mirroring Phoebe and Lyra. "Can't believe we
actually snuck into the Reef at the last minute though, thank
the gods the Thunder cats couldn't make it, right?" She slapped
Lyra on the shoulder, saluting their combined luck. "It was the
perfect reason to give my post the slip for the next few days."
It wasn't hard to tell that Abby seemed to become more and more
relieved as time went on at the bar, being further away from all
of the political drama and worry of the guild was just what she
needed right now, that, and her friends, of course.
