Regardless of being werewolf Mal recognized first and formost
that they were just kids... they were kids looking after other
kids. All of them having to grow up faster than anyone should
have to... he knew the feeling well. It made his heart ache like
       snow beneath heavy footsteps.
Mal couldn't possibly leave them out in the cold, alone and
unprotected in Knight territory. There was never a question of
whether or not he'd ask them to return to Yarrow with them or
not, that much was clear. It was the only thing that made sense
to him after seeing their scrappy young leader Dorian step
forth; the young wolf who would have tried to challenge him had
they not been chased off from the cave.
A young, hot-blooded self proclaimed alpha of the makeshift pack
or juveniles. Mal recognized a strange sense of familiarity
behind the child's eyes, a kin ship he couldn't quite place...
Maybe it was just relating to the kids struggles but Mal's keen
hearing and the simple slip of the tongue of some of the other
members of Dorian's pack made him believe otherwise. Whispers.
       "He's just like him."
Strange. All this time Mal has been distanced from any answers
as to what he had become after the events of Castle Sol,
uncertain if he was truly alone in such aspects. Unsure if he
even wanted answers he had let the truth alude him for years.
Yet here this newfound mystery stood before him, taking the
shape of a spunky teenager counterpart. Curious. Perhaps
together they could find the answer to the question he was
       asked.
       "Just what are you?"
When posed with such a question all Mal could think to do in
that moment was shrug and think to himself the only response he
       knew for certain.

Mal has scarcely explained what he was up to when he decided to
haul Auron all the way out to what felt like the middle of no
where one evening after they got to Yarrow. When Auron had asked
where they were headed all Mal had done was chuckle, seemingly
in good spirits as he replied. "Oh, just a little unscheduled
field trip is all. Shhh... if we hurry we should be back before
anyone even notices we're gone." He had flashed his signature
smile and continued leading onward away from Yarrow. The
midnight hues finally bleeding it's way into the last of the
reaching golden rays, giving way to a inky blanket of stars over
head as the sun sank below the horizon.
The silhouette of the city wall shrinking out of view as they
followed a winding wooded path. Malekith was surprisingly quiet
along this walk, the only sounds around them were the chirping
of crickets and the their accompanying symphony of the
woodlands. After an hour or two, the path began opening up. The
trodden earth beneath their feet giving way to cobble stone
underfoot as the treeline around them began to thin, letting
streams of light trickle through the forest until the rivers of
light converged into a wide sweeping swath of meadow bathed in
       soft moonlight.
At it's center laid a desolate overgrown ruin comprised of
crumbling stone walls. It's form loomed like a shell of
something fallen or a behemoth laid to rest as young Yarrow
plants littered the dilapidated remains as nature retook the
earth below. "That was a shorter walk than I remember..." Mal
mused, smiling softly though it didn't quite reach his eyes. No,
his gaze hadn't left the remains of Castle Sol since it had
entered his sights. "Comm'on." Mal said waving for Auron to
follow, as he continued onward towards the castle's corpse and
began scaling the rubble, before silently offering an extended
       hand to help Auron up.

       [color=black][font=georgia]
Auron had no clue as to what nonsense Mal had cooked up this
time. It seemed that each day that passed by Mal was cooking up
some sort of new scheme. At this point, Auron was certain Mal
wasn't actually trying to get rid of him or even bring him harm.
His mind danced with the idea that Mal was just going to torment
him mentally for the rest of his days as punishment for his past
deeds. Whatever he had planned, Auron had very little ability or
reason to resist at this point. With a solemn shrug and a sharp
retort, he became Mal's blonde shadow once more.
As they padded through the remains of the castle, Auron noted
the damage wasn't just from raw magical power, there were also
signs of physical damage dealt by a body, or, in other words,
something strong enough to knock down the walls of building
itself. "Did you just bring me to the site of another tragedy as
my weekly dose of guild or something?" He posited dryly.
"Because it's just getting annoying now, I'm not actually
learning anything anymore." The man's badgering seemed to do
little to break Mal's focus on the ruins, not even his stare was
       offered back.
With precious little else to talk about, Auron just continued to
follow Mal, now more curious about his fixation than anything.
Finally, the tree line gave way to a small, dug mote of water
set around the perimeter of a crumbling courtyard. Several
decorative pillars that once stood proudly had long ago been
knocked to the earth, shattering their facade into several,
still hulking, shards of stone. Mal gave this place a strange
reverence but for what reason, Auron couldn't possibly guess.
"Did you just bring me hear to tell me you're an evil mastermind
again?" Auron said with a snide tone. After he finished rolling
his eyes, Auron's temper began to flare as Mal continued
ignoring his words as if he was preparing himself for
something. Nervously, Auron raised his guard, unsure if Mal
really was going to snap this time.

For the first time Mal's attention was pulled free of the
gravity that this place seemed to hold over him. He blinked at
Auron as if registering his question and laughed, a genuine but
soft laugh that seemed to melt his stare softening that too. He
simply shook his head before replying. "No, haha... nothing like
that I swear." He said in earnest before beginning to explain
his reasoning for coming to this place. "I wanted to show you
the place I was born- er, reborn more like I 'spose.... what's
left of it anyway." Mal said with a small shrug.
"Come with me we haven't hunt out for a while and had a drink!"
His energy shifted to a bit more animated as he chuckled and led
Auron down winding halls, a majority of the roof line had
collapsed in and some of the had crumbled but it was clear he
still knew his way around, like a ghost roaming the forgotten
halls as he lead onward to a large room lined that was flanked
with broken remnants of stained glass windows that funneled down
towards one large peaked end of the steeple that stood like a
       headstone to a mass grave.
Surely this place would have been quite impressive in it's
       prime, even in it's current state it wasn't hard to imagine;
though Mal could remember it like it was yesterday. "Welcome to
Castle Sol, take a seat." Mal said motioning to one of the
remaining wooden pews that sat askew, the others around it were
broken or upturned and overgrown with ivy and various weeds. He
absentmindedly dusted off a section before plopping comfortably
down and reclining, only Mal would make himself this at home in
a crumbling church hall going so far as to draw a bottle of
       drink out from his jacket
       .

Auron paused as Mal plopped down, giving what little resistance
he still could by not joining him in lounging. "What's you're-"
Auron's retort was deflected before it could even launch. "That
bottle..." He said with a mixture of annoyance and shock. "Why
would you bring that stuff all the way out here?" Auron could
feel the sudden shock to his ego land squarely. The dubious
bottle Mal produced was a pink Moscato wine from Rhaks'manna.
The surface of the bottle was wrapped in brightly colored paper
displaying many characters from a specific Rhaks'mannan
illustrated book series that Auron was secretly a fan of.
"Why you...." Auron said as he strode to Mal's side furiously.
"I already told you, I was lying when I said I liked that junk."
The young man's cheeks turning bright red betrayed his words,
the swan song of what remained of his lingering male pride. "I
don't care that it tastes like bubble gum and those other girly
botanicals those weirdos hand pick in their magical trees. The
taste is too light and fluffy and it's for softies!". Auron's
words caught in his throat as he stopped yelling. The last word
in his uproar wasn't his own, it was one that he had been given
       by someone else.
"Fucking Haymond." Auron spat as he dropped the dregs of bravado
he held. Before another moment passed, Auron collapsed alongside
Mal, willing to take the memories of their time spent goofing
off in Newark over the times of Haymond's unbearable training
regiment. Without allowing a second to pass, Auron snatched the
vibrant bottle from Mal's hand before expertly manipulating it
in his hands. "You need to keep it upright or all the loose
fruit skins in the bottom will float to the surface and change
       the flavor."
Auron spoke as he fumbled around in his front pocket, producing
a small, metal tool with a rounded top. The device quickly
snapped to the top of the bottle and with a simple prying
motion, the top had been removed, filling the nearby area with a
sickly sweet aroma. It was as if a field of wild flowers had
bloomed and floated their pleasant scent through the place,
briefly covering the scent of doom and decay that lingered all
around. "Did you at least bring the proper glassware?" Auron
croaked, unwilling to address the stare Mal was giving him.

Mal gave a big cheesy grin as he snickered amused and clearly
enjoying the chance to see this side of Auron again. It felt
like Mal was finally seeing an old friend after a long distance
apart from one another; picking up where you last left off as if
no time at all had passed... what a strange feeling, he wasn't
sure why it felt like that. Without skipping a beat Mal reached
inside the opposite breast of his jacket, this time producing
two handblown tulip shaped glasses with leaves on their stems.
"Of course I'm not a total barbarian." Mal teased waving the
glasses out for Auron to take and fill.
Upon further inspection it was clear to see that the glassware
was in fact the limited edition Sakura Blossom Petal Drinkware
Set that was paired with the release of the celebration for
their 100th edition release of the manga, only 100 sets had been
made for the event. Something Auron had missed when he went off
all by his lonesome to 'Auron Island' before Mal had went to
find him. Two for two; just like up north, back then he had
found him too. Mal certainly had a knack for always finding him
       again.
In reality Mal had been planning to surprise him at some point
after getting them, but things had gotten a little... chaotic in
that time and after Auron had taken off again up North, Mal was
really worried that he might actually lose him for good. The
Guild would have sent Cirice to execute him had he not
intervened... Over his dead body would Mal have ever let that
come to pass. All the same he would never mention as much to
Auron. Mal's actions and his reasoning behind them were his own,
and he had no intention of ever holding that over Auron's head.
As such it was just best left to never be mentioned, instead Mal
would just celebrate and appreciate the now. From here forward,
Mal intended to make time and prioritize the people he cared
about, that much of what Jaryn spoke to resonated with him. "How
else could we properly experience this vintage. Besides, being a
collector I figured you'd approve." Mal explained with a bold
grin before leaning back into the pew again and giving a content
deep sigh. "Ah.. fvck Haymond man. He was the politest a$$hole I
ever met but doesn't mean his sh!t didn't stink." Mal lamented
dramatically while rolling his eyes, letting forth a sarcastic
snicker, keeping the mood light as he commiserated with his
       drinking partner.

       [color=black][font=georgia]
Auron accepted Mal's perfectly curated drinkware and swiftly
began to pour the wine gently into each glass, sure to stop at
about halfway to ensure the wine had breathing room, a key part
of this specific vintage. "I can't believe you actually have
these..." Auron said with exasperation. "Like, I can but, you
know..." His eyes lingered on the distance as his voice trailed
off. Auron's gaze was pulled back into the bright pink liquid in
his glass as his mind lingered on Haymond once more.
There was a time that Auron viewed Haymond as the pinnacle of
strength and someone who had status that one should aspire to.
He drank up all of his words and supposed teachings without
question for so long that they began sinking into his very
being. Knowing what he did now, it felt as though he just let
someone corrupt him at his core. The worst of it was not knowing
if he should trust his instincts and hate Haymond for what he
did or if his misplaced sense of family wasn't so misplaced
after all. Even if Haymond was only helping tutor Auron for the
sake of some greater plan, the impact those moments left on
Auron still felt real, the good and the bad.
If worse came to worse, he didn't know if he would be better off
standing against someone he viewed as a father or standing with
someone he had accepted as a brother.
"F#ck you for doing all of this." Auron spat gloomily into the
pale, pink abyss of his wine. Without elaborating further, Auron
released an involuntary sigh. The air leaving his body felt more
like his soul changing shape, as if it were made of some heavy,
malleable substance like clay. "F#ck all of these people who
keep meddling in other people's lives."
With a sigh, Auron turned to Mal, finally meeting his fellow's
softened gaze. "Well your plan to soften me up and bum me out
worked, so what's the story with all these rocks?" The man said,
instantly reinstating his bravado laden personality.

Mal sipped from the glass delicately holding the vine like stem
as he swirled it's contents and sniffed at the bouquet, enjoying
the warm fuzzy sensation the bubbles gave him as he reconnected
to Auron. "F#ck all of these people who keep meddling in other
people's lives." Mal smirked before agreeing by raising his
glass. "I'll fvckin' drink to that!" Then Auron seemed to settle
back into his usual posturing but Mal didn't mind. He could tell
Auron was really wrestling with things right now, the pull of
       feeling torn in two.
"You know, you're allow to feel more than just one way about
things right?..." Mal said in earnest. "I do it all the time...
emotions aren't singular, life is too complex. Take this place
for example, Castle Sol was once a pretty unique place till
about five-ish years ago. Once upon a time there were even a ton
of folks that would come here for help since they had some wild
tech, but above all it was a coven of vampires; vamps who didn't
drink straight from the tap, if you catch my drift. Rumor had it
they were looking for a cure to vampirism all together." Mal
laughed before raising his hands dramatically as his voice
boomed. "THE SONS OF PELOR!" He laughed deflating a bit before
continuing. "That's what they called themselves anyway... Fvck,
when I heard about this place it sounded too good to be true but
I was desperate." At first it seemed like this was about Mal's
condition, which in a way it was connected after all this is
where the person he once was died.
"This place promised to cure my sister to give her a chance to
walk in the sun again. They said I could help since we were
related by blood... so I let them do all sorts of testing. I
couldn't tell you the number of times I was stabbed with a
needle while staying in this place." Mal sort of laughed as if
half amused by the remembrance of such a melancholic time of his
life. "But it wasn't all bad. My sister got to make friends and
feel safe, getting to feel like a normal teenage girl again.
Having a supply of blood she didn't have to feel guilty of
drinking. She never once harmed a living person as a vampire,
she was a gentle person and this place let me preserve that
until her last days. This place was both the promise to her
preservation as well as some of the happiest most comfortable
days of our lives, but this place was also her tomb... I love
and hate this place... even as it crumbled and collapsed, it's
values twisting into something I didn't recognize; everything it
was, what it represented, the memories I made here, it all still
impacted the person I walked away from it as. Even my own dreams
and goals are shaped by Lord Luxtos." He said motioning to a
half crumbled statue of a man in the corner of the temple.
"He's the one who made me realize I want to help shape the world
into something different for those deemed dangerous or
monstrous, that way they could to be part of society. Granted
Luxtos went a bit batsh!t towards the end and tried to black out
the sun after failing again to create a cure... Irony was, after
my sister turned me and saved my life here I am. Guess all their
hard work was on the verge of a break through... too bad he
destroyed everything he spent all that time building up, all
because he got desperate.. Sucks to see someone you look up to
       disappoint you like that."
"I felt lied to and used, I got angry at everyone I could blame
for what happened... but it reality it was only possible because
of how the systems in place and the people who promised better
leting us down. We were just kids, how the hell could any of us
of known better at the time? Gotta give yourself some grace when
it comes to sh!t like that or it'll eat you alive. The same is
true for all that's happened to you... we can't control all the
things that have happened to us, or choose the people that
impact or change our lives along the way... but we do have the
power to move forward and forge our own destinies so long as
those who have sought to control us, do not become us. We
deserve better than that don't you think?"
"Man, I can remember when we first met! I remember hearing
rumors about a up and coming fighter that kept coming back week
after week to push people out of getting that qualifying title
to get into the next ranks tier. I had wanted to check out the
blood bowl so bad since getting to Newark and after hearing
about The mysterious Raven, I had to go and see for myself.
Fighting you in that ring was electrifying, it had me on edge
the entire fight right down to the very end it was do or die for
me. The kind of fight I lived for... Even without using the
current you were a force to be reckoned with. You were strong
and stood your ground keeping the unworthy from sliding by, no,
you weren't going to let anyone who hadn't earned it best you in
that ring. I admired that drive, that passion. You were so cool
in that moment, all I could think about was being your friend,
because I knew that having someone like you by my side would
always remind me to push myself to become stronger, to be my
best self.... And I think in that ring, that was your best self
       too."

       [color=black][font=georgia]
Auron listened as Mal told his story. It was a strange feeling,
being on this side of tragedy. Normally, Auron would have filled
the role that Luxtos did, the mad ruler causing untold
destruction with his rare and dangerous gifts, but, instead,
Auron was simply a member of the audience hearing about the
climactic horror show secondhand. It was all a painful reminder
of how far he had fallen but also helped to put into perspective
the other side of his actions, something he normally wasn't
privy to. After all, it was easy to cause the mess and leave it
to his underlings or enemies to clean up.
Auron's time in the knights was one spent in illusory control.
The promises of freedom and power all came with an unseen cost,
in this case, it was his clarity of what was really happening.
Surely Eldris took much delight in Auron's outbursts, as he was
assured many times by the elder, and for a time, Auron felt the
rush too, but closer to the end, everything just seemed to make
him more angry, like the catharsis had stopped working. Auron
had always blamed Mal for the change in how he felt at the end
of his reign as the Scarred Commander, but maybe it wasn't so
much that Mal's words and meddling directly lead him down that
path but the genuine connection he felt with someone finally
helped him come to his own senses, whatever those were.
Auron's veins on his temples visibly began to bulge as he stared
into his glass, unable to take even a sip of something he wanted
to taste more than ever. It was during this momentary blockage
he finally started to feel what Mal had also felt: helplessness.
"So that's it, huh?" Auron said, slowly stirring back to
reality. "People don't really get it unless they've been through
it too." His voice was sparse and dry, like an unwatered dirt
plot. "Is that why you're such a f#cking pest about me being a
better person?" While his eyes were dry, the emotional turmoil
held in Auron's gaze threatened to burst like a damn pushed to
its limit. There was a distance in his eyes only seen in those
       undergoing revelations of the soul.
       "I think I feel Sorry."

The momentary silence that followed Auron's weighty words were
deafening. Mal had never sought to guilt or beseech Auron with
goody-two-shoeisims, especially since he himself infact broke
more rules than he ever followed; but it was never about
following rules, it was simply his actions that set him apart.
Empathy opened up ones perspective like pulling back a veil that
kept one blind to others suffering or the consequences of ones
actions... but it was something that couldn't be taught, only
learned through ones own experiences and hardships. It's what
helped Mal connect to others in the way he did. To an outsider
like Auron, in the past was easy to write it off as something
that just easily to came to Mal, but now it was clear that it
was only possible through his understanding of pain first hand
through the tragedies that had befallen his own life, jn turn he
seemed to recognize that in others.
"You know... I know of a few ways to ease that burden when
you're ready to talk about it more." Mal didn't want to
overwhelm Auron. For now he felt it was best for him to sit and
experience his feelings. It was a process that didn't come easy
but Mal knew it was easier when you had people to talk to and
support and when Auron was ready Mal knew he'd find his people,
just like he himself had alongside the Nullitas.
"For now, let's raise a glass to your resilience; may your
journey ahead be filled with joy and success and may the best of
your past, be the worst of your future." Mal spoke in toast,
trying to lighten the mood and uplift Aurons spirits inside and
within his cup. It would be a shame to waste fine wine and good
company with the stars out overhead.
