In the lost reaches of a dying Astral Sea, one lone craft
patrols the cosmos, ensuring their mission to protect the weak
and guide the blind clings to life. The Gaze of Helm is the last
remaining vessel filled with the Lord of Protection's blessing,
serving as a lonely light in a sea of darkness. As such, there
is no shortage of work for the busy crew, lead by the last
living being with the knowledge of his lord's commandments.
Glenroy, is his name. He is an Aasimar, one of the last children
of the stars, and it is written in his being that he shall serve
the divine will of Helm, protecting those weaker than himself, a
population quite numerous in today's world.
While Glenroy is the acting captain, a vessel of this prestige
wouldn't be complete without the addition of other essential
members like: The twin Githyanki Fyzz and Flak, a pair of
curious Gith that possess half of one another's total genes.
Born from an undocumented anomaly in their hatchery, the twins
were marked as mistakes. worthless or worse than it. It was only
natural one such as Glenroy would take them under his wing and
show them the cosmos. In no time, the pair made for excellent
crew members. Fyzz always had a true internal compass, lending
his skills best to navigation while Flakk appreciated the finer
arts of munitions and weaponry.
The next addition to the crew was their ever essential
Physician, Doctor Juandissimo Merichai Angel the 14th. While his
name was eccentric enough, it did little to compare to the man
himself. An infectiously charming disposition did the bare
minimum to distract from his teetering sanity. Regardless of the
risks his personality brought to the mission, his expertise was
matched by none. It's suspected that Dr. Merichai's gifts for
healing were derived from Pelor himself but no proof has been
provided to back such claims. He does possess the ability to
absorb energy from the sun to fuel his healing efforts which, in
addition to providing many incredible benefits to his patients,
allows him to charge the power core of the ship, something that
runs solely on direct solar radiation.
With the dismal displays by the existing crew to produce a well
balanced meal, a chef was the next logical choice. It took some
time but after the crew spent some time on a planet ruled by the
undead, they were able to collect their master class cook:
Bones. While a rather unremarkable skeleton, Bones possessed the
latent abilities of a master cook. His understanding of the
palettes of all beings helped secure his place among the most
powerful in his home world but in a desperate bid to escape the
monotony of his existence, Glenroy agreed to harbor him while he
made his escape. Vowing to repay the kindness of his newfound
allies, Bones decided to act as the chef aboard the Gaze, if
only until a suitable replacement was found.
Ar3s is a rare instance of a being perfectly suited to what he
does and little else. The war forged was found on a planet
suspected to once harbor demonic influence. While nothing
remained but endless seas of lava, Ar3s was found thanks to a
lucky surveying scan. It's unknown how long the war forged spent
in the depths of the lava ocean he was plucked from, but his
outward armor displayed deep warping and dense heat damage only
seen in fossils and other ancient things. Whatever it is Ar3s is
made of, it certainly isn't your average steel.
While there are others aboard the Gaze, they simply serve as
pilgrims requesting fair passage or newly made allies willing to
help as long as their conscience was kept clear. Among those now
aboard the Gaze was a pair of friends unsure of where they were
or how close to annihilation they had come. Glenroy awaited
their awakening in the med bay to question what they new of the
heinous creature that hatched from their planet's moon.

Squibz found her way back to the med bay after getting cleaned
up. I hadn't expected this one to get so messy she thought along
the way. Alice had told her where she could find Captain Glenroy
with the several others and the most recent additions to the
passenger manifest. Poking her head in the room before knocking,
[glow=black,2,300][color=maroon]"Cap'n? A word, please"[/glow]
and Squibz stepped back out to the hall to wait while the
captain followed and opened the door across the hall for them.
Captain Glenroy walked across the room and sat himself on the
edge of the desk with his hands, asking his question before
looking back up to Squibz, [glow=black,2,300]"I heard it was a
messy one. Are you good?"[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Still shining. Nothing a little
decontamination shower couldn't handle. Probably overkill? I
hope."[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Alright then. What've ya got for me,
Azhen?"[/glow] She still winced at the name. The captain was one
of only two people aboard that knew her real name and she
couldn't get the risk of being compromised out of her head
whenever he used it.
[glow=black,2,300]"We were able to to trace their trajectory and
origin all the way back to the surface. It was a mess, sir.
People everywhere, and on top of that, it was a literal blood
bath, but we managed. In and out without being seen. Had to use
our last Time Stop charge unfortunately."[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"That's...unfortunate to hear. It's gonna be
hard to come by more of those, Here's to hoping it was worth it.
And? The....other thing?"[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Surface contamination confirmed, sir. Most
likely both of them as well."[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Fvck. Well, at least we have them isolated
for now."[/glow] Glenroy moved his way back to the door,
[glow=black,2,300]"Hey, one last thing quick. You know, Azhen, I
don't think I've ever seen you without a hat or a mask on, or
both. The hat I get, al things considered, but the mask? Just
curious."[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Faces and hair are hard, sir. I'm not the
greatest at either, but it's a lot easier if I only have to
focus on one or the other, or neither. You'll know my priorities
and opinion of a mission if I'm fully suited up, sir."[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"And now?"[/glow]
[glow=black,2,300]"Unless our guests can read minds, they will
be less likely to trust me, to trust us, if I'm just someone or
something hiding behind a mask. The hat will do fine to contain
my hair and make sure they have a face they can read."[/glow]
Squibz followed the captain back to the med bay to wait for the
mysterious guests to wake up under the care of the Doctor. Only
the Doctor and the Captain knew who she really was and why she
had joined their crew nearly a terrestrial year ago or what she
was looking for on the surface. There was no keeping her from
this interrogation even if she wasn't formally part of the crew.
And with recent occurrences increasing, some of the crew were
beginning to form their own theories and draw connections.
Perhaps today might be the day the bottle finally breaks open
aboard the Gaze

As Maliketh and Damian had gathered up their belongings that had
been placed in chests at the foot of the examination tables
respectively. The first item in which he donned was not a
weapon, nor did he tediously rifle through his possessions in an
attempt to take inventory. No, the first items that Mal placed
back onto his person were the gauntlets that had been outfitted
to him in their fight against Nikolai in his attempt to awaken
whatever being it seemed now resided within the moon.
After gathering up their things and being invited by a man who
called himself Glenroy to the bridge, Mal continued to assess
the members around him with the careful gaze of a predator.
Normally he was more talkative, always quick to joke and make
light of such scenarios but it seemed that even he had found the
boundaries of his own limitations, especially after all they had
encountered amidst the astral sea. Damian's willingness for
cooperation was the linchpin that allowed Mal to remain open in
regards to sharing what they knew, and their own layered
involvement in the happenings leading up until now... With
Damian ever careful not to share about his friend until Mal
himself was willing to spill his metaphorical guts on the
matter. He knew he could always entrust delicate matters like
this to Damian; though Mal wished he could of checked in more on
his well being after the fight against Nikolai. He could only
imagine that Damian was still reeling from well... everything.
--------------------------
Six days. He had lost six valuable days. Days that could have
been better spent preparing, organizing, consulting. It had been
a long while since time had held such a weight in this life,
especially for one such a he that was no longer as beholden by
it. This pressure, it reminded him back to simpler days, effort
spent on the day to day survival of he and his sister, back when
the world felt infinitely smaller but just as foreign and
unforgiving. A lot more people depended on him now than back
then though... rather than fall to the pressure, Malekith
instead found himself embolden by this need to become more, if
not for himself then, for their sake.
His instincts had carried him this far, now, he just have to
trust it could help carry him the rest of the way in order to
see this through. Even if his actions might make him seem like a
raving lunatic at times... particularly at time such as his
"unscheduled space walk."
-----------------------------
Every fiber within him screamed to take action, if they didn't
shake the strange alien creature free of the vessel they'd all
surely perish before making it to the portal. "I'm about to do
something stupid." Mal scoffed, a reluctant smile curling at the
very corner of his lip in a debonair way. An unfamiliar warning
to those who he traveled beside, but to him it was a polished
declaration of having made up his mind before taking action.
After a brief exchange he found himself on the exterior of the
craft, though he'd be lying if he had claimed to have been fully
prepared for the speed and pressure at which this ship seemed to
be moving through the Astral. No matter. He had made up his
mind. There was nothing left to it, but to do it.
Considering Squibz had made a journey down prior, Mal felt
rightfully at fault for the creature lashing out. He couldn't
explain why he felt that way, whether it was due to the
gauntlets he now possessed, formed from the moon's surface that
drew the creature inward or if it was simply lashing out due to
his connection with the anomaly, the Current. The why mattered
very little in the moment. Now was a time for reaction. Mal drew
his trust halberd knowing he wanted to keep a distance from the
creature in question, and cleaved attempting to sever it's
connection from the craft in one fell swing; it was the only way
he could think to free them. It was a solid enough plan but the
creature it seemed was desperate to cling to anything it could
in a vain attempt to cling to survival. Mal almost pitied it,
even as his footing was displaced and he was sent careening
towards the open portal in free fall.
He watched and listened as the creatures shrieked and clung to
him and his weapon, as if trying to find some form of purchase,
anything to ensure its vain attempt at survival as the
atmosphere began to burn up around them. A wretched little
thing, though he had failed to try and gleam some insight into
it's intentions, it was clear now it was afraid. The fear of
it's decent becoming etched into the surface of the melting
remains of his weapon like a twisted death mask of hollowed
screams, each imprisoned within the blades edge. This is what
futility looked like.
Despite this Mal felt a strange assuring sense of calm wash over
him. The swirling cosmos of Astral Sea bled forth into the
horizon of open sky that stretched out before him revealing the
full of Yggdromos and what lie beyond. It was beautiful, so
small it seemed as though it could be seated in the palm of his
open hand as he absentmindedly reached towards it. Before
closing into a fist his body instinctively braced for an impact
that should most assuredly spell his end. His form a comet
streaking across the day lit sky before landing into what was
once the earth that cradled the ruins of Hempher, breaking
ground to give away to something new.
