Anyone familiar with WorldGuard?

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with WorldGuard. I
am wondering if it would be something better than Towny or
Residence in handling towns and their protection.
I am thinking about looking into it, to see if it would be a
good replacement for dealing with towns and such. If so, that
could be a better way to deal with them than residence is. If
it does some of that, maybe we could just use residence to allow
members to buy and sell their own properties. Or is this
available in WorldGuard as a feature too? It doesn't say
anything like that where I can see on their page.
I don't know if this is really a viable option or not. I guess
that is why I was curious if anyone is familiar with it and had
some working experience with it.
Just brainstorming... Thanks!!

I'm pretty sure worldguard doubles with Worldedit as it's more
of a backing up program and protection for admins.
I would say residence is the best option.
