Anti-griefing measures on Semi-Vanilla????
By: Erundur Date: April 8, 2012, 11:52 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I have begun to notice people's things have been griefed. This
is beginning to concern me. First, The golems in Humphrey went
missing or were slain.
Then Jry's Golem was taken out.
My fortress was then broken into and my redstone wiring was
investigated, leaving a hole in my floor and my wall(the
entry/exit point).
I log on today and find my dogs dead(all 10-12 of them), gates
open, a nether rack fireplace extinguished, text removed from
one of my signs, and my 30-40 iron ingots stolen. I immediately
checked my fortress and found MY iron golem dead, though nothing
was taken. After that, I checked other people's places and found
that Jry's golem had been killed again.
My point is that this CANNOT go on any longer. We have many
options:
1)Wolf installs a plugin for player property protection
2)We institute a militaristic anti-griefing force(pretty much a
police)
3)We do nothing(NOT a fan of this)
4)We immediately find the perpetrators and ban them, and keep
doing that, like we have been(although the system is somewhat
slow)
I personally approve of player owned land areas, but it could
interfere with further buildings for the public.
THIS MUST END. If justice cannot be delivered, some may be
dissuaded from joining the server, others may join to
participate in this vandalism and theft. We cannot allow this to
occur any more.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, We will
immediately find and ban this person.
We do have people on this server with sketchy backgrounds.
We're sorry about the misfortune that has happened.
[glow=red,2,300]1)Wolf installs a plugin for player property
protection: We did talk about it although it being as Vanilla
as we would like it is hard to make the decision on the
protection.
2)We institute a militaristic anti-griefing force(pretty much a
police) We have our ways.
3)We do nothing(NOT a fan of this) We're doing everything we
can.
4)We immediately find the perpetrators and ban them, and keep
doing that, like we have been(although the system is somewhat
slow) We will ban them. [/glow]

Thank y'all for trying hard to bring this to an end. It's just
that I'm noticing patterns, sometimes i get victimized,
sometimes i don't. I just want to cruel cycle to end.
Twsb, nice reply.

Well, for the most part, we have a pretty good player base.
Yes, there are a few that slip through, but we do address them
as soon as the incidents arise. Most of the time, I have been
able to catch the griefers and a lot of the thieves within a
couple hours, if not minutes, of their doing the crime! We do
have safeguards in place, hence the "semi-vanilla" aspect of the
server.
I will take the blame for the griefing you found. I found
Thunder_Piggy griefing after his first hour of being on the
server, Saturday. I thought I had rolled it all back, but
apparently shorted the rollback by 15 minutes. Otherwise, it
would have been done Saturday afternoon, and you would have
never known it... other than finding your animals missing.
Unfortunately, the animals don't rollback. :(
As far as the iron, that was Tylersyme, as you know. He has been
doing some stealing for a bit, but we have been working to
rectify that. He is currently jailed in Humphry jail until I get
a chance to talk to him. And if that behavior cannot be changed,
he will be gone too!
Most of us want to keep this a vanilla server, meaning we don't
want plugins to take away from the original Minecraft feel. That
is what the Main server is for! For the most part, most of the
players are trustworthy on here. Athough, as we grow, that
could change. Thats where you guys all come in. We need to know
from you guys when things happen to. We do not catch everything
right away (as with Tyler and your iron), even though we try!
Keep in mind, vanilla servers are always, and will always be a
target for the griefers out there! That is why we try to keep
all the protections in place, and review logs quite frequently!
The biggest help is from you guys! Be sure to keep us abreast
of any suspicious behavior you might see, or even suspect,
especially from newer members we don't know that well yet! We
need you to help us 'police' the servers and keep the griefing
and all that in check!! I know I'm not always around, but you
guys can let any of the other admins or mods know about it also!
And even if you tell one of us in person, it still don't hurt
to post it in the Reports section of the forums!! That way
everyone can be made aware of any situations out there and we
can all work together to protect ourselves, and 'our' server!!
Personally, I would love to see the chests and all stay as they
are, but if it gets to a point where we can't trust players to
not steal from others, then we might have to look at something
to protect chests. For right now, the only players with absolute
protection of their things are VIP's, who get assigned a special
bedrock enclosed vault to place valuable items in, along with a
warp to get them there and return home again! No one else has
access to these private vaults, except for the person assigned
to them! Since the are completely encased in bedrock, noone else
will be able to access them or steal from them!
Thanks for bringing it to my attention, and I'm glad we were
able to get it all fixed for you! 8)

I dunno, I guess it must have been something to do with the
rollback. But one of my disks was gone and there were a bunch
of copies of the other ones. Threw the copies in the lava.

I lost a music disc too, and got a copy instead
I am sympathetic to all players who have been gridded, and will
do alll I can to help make the server safe and fun, while
keeping it as Vanilla as can be.
I hadn't used my bedrock vault until recently, and it is a nice
feature, but part of the enjoyment I get playing on this server
is avoiding griefers as best as I can either by hiding
valuables, patrolling for griefers, etc.
I think we should develop an RPG style alignment system whereby
griefers are labelled according to the degree of their action
and how often they commit these actions, the worse of whom are
of course banned, and the milder offenders perhaps jailed or
tagged with a RED PvP label (so I can legally hunt them down)
