Angels & Demons from Dan Brown is a great book. Also pretty much
all of Agatha Christie's books are great.

I'm currently reading "Battle Royale" by Shoukun Takami. It's
almost a Japanese version of Hunger Games, but it was actually
written before Suzanne Collins' books were published. Very good
book so far, getting into the minds of a class of 15-year-olds,
who have been told that there can only be one survivor.

Yeah, I have all of Agatha Christie's mysteries. I belong to an
Agatha Christie group on Goodreads, and we read a book each
month, in the order they came out.
What kind of books do you like, Jon? I read mostly mysteries and
classics. Some fantasy, horror, and historical nonfiction
(mostly about the Tudors). I don't follow bestsellers and that
kind of thing.

Well I am a big sci fi fan, but can read classic American
literature like Steinbeck. As long as its a good book I'll read
it and I don't usually go for the best sellers list either.
Although, they did have one called And The Mountains echoed
which sounded like a pretty good story.
I used to own the comics to Battle Royale, but the disc my
friend sent it in was pretty scratched up. Right before I read
GoT I had read THG and it impaled THG =D
So looks like i'm going to grab something from Agatha Christie,
any one I should start with?

I've always enjoyed reading the Asian Saga by James Clavell.
Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series was awesome
as well.

Anything by Hugo award winner China Mieville who writes Weird
Fiction, not a description of his writing/topic but a sub-genre
of sci-fi (some say Lovecraft is the first Weird Fiction
writer).

Jon, you could start with Agatha Christie where she started -
The Mysterious Affair at Styles, her first mystery, that also
introduces her most famous detective, Hercule Poirot.
As for sci-fi/fantasy, have you read the Chronicles of Thomas
Covenant by Steven R. Donaldson? Covenant is a rather unlikeable
antihero, so the series is not everyone's cup of tea. First
book in the series is Lord Foul's Bane.

A great Sci-Fi series is the Honor Harrington series by David
Weber. R.A. Salvatore writs pretty good Fantasy though he is
pretty glued to his main character.

Wow, some really good stuff here which I should be queued up for
the rest of the year!
@Meri, Agatha Christie was writing a long time ago, do the
novels still hold up to this day and age?
