Alliance Challenge Proposal
By: Freya Stormcloud Date: December 18, 2013, 9:15 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
We are fortunate to have members all over the world, and I hope
I have come up with a possible solution to running alliance
challenges across several time zones.
This is not just an issue of who takes the top prizes, but
making sure everyone is able to participate in the challenges.
Even the newly reincarnated player may get silver or the chance
of rare drops when they enter the fray, so making sure everyone
is able to enter before the AC is finished is something I would
like us to set as a goal.
So, this is what I propose, and success hinges on the honor
system:
1. Officers will be able to start challenges so we are no longer
restricted to a pacific time schedule. We will still schedule a
start day/time, but they will be different days and times based
on the officer's time zone.
2. If the challenge starts in your time zone, try to restrain
your actions to one round of attacks. We have 24 hours to
finish most challenges, so let the race be in the last 4 hours
of the challenge if possible. I know this is a lot to ask of
you, but I think we have proven that we can finish even Fire in
the Arsenal in a couple hours, so I don't think we will ever run
out of time.
3. Let's start a wish list for challenges. I think many of us
have taken top three at this point, I will pull together a prize
list per challenge, and I think we should start some challenges
with the goal of having someone in particular taking the prize.
Let's give this a try and see if it works.

I'm think it's a great idea! I just didn't figure out that part
when you said that you want us to restrain our actions to one
round of attacks. I mean, did you want us to always do 5 actions
at once, or do you want us to only perform 5 actions at that
time and wait for others to join? Then there's also the matter
of whom will you appoint to start raids for the other
timezone's.

I think if everyone were to just take the first 5 shots. The
maybe check back and see how many others have joined in. I
don't know if it would be realistic to maybe have people post in
alliance chat once they are in or not.
Maybe we we can say everyone hold your fire when stage one is
done, then check to see who has not yet entered the challenge?
We will have at least 3 time-zone start times.

I like the idea of hitting the first five actions, and holding
off until everyone has a chance to join. But I think we will
need some way to determine who has joined the quest. We only
see the top three in the challenge, and the alliance chat window
won't hold the posts long enough (not to mention trying to
scroll back to past posts).
Maybe we could start a thread here for each challenge. The
thread can spell out which challenge it starting, the day and
time it is scheduled to start, and who (if anyone in particular)
is slated to get prizes. As people join, they can post to the
thread.

^^That would probably be much more effective!

So, if I understand your proposal, Freya, the Shadowcat AC
scheduled to start on 12/20 at 8pm PST would work as follows:
Between 8pm PST and 4pm PST on 12/21, each participant should
hit five times. From 4pm PST 12/21 on, everyone can do whatever
they want.
That gives a 20-hour window, which hopefully would give every
participant a chance to at least join in. At the same time,
those last four hours can provide some fun competitive playing.
The players who are able to join in the last part will vary from
AC to AC, depending on the timezone used. A fun analogy would
be that the first part will be like an archery contest at the
beginning of a tourney, and the second part like the melee at
the end.
I think it sounds like a fair compromise to everyone. One
question, though - what happens if someone is not following
these guidelines during the AC? In other words, if they go way
over five hits in a short amount of time?
Personally, I don't like the idea of 'assigning' all the prizes
for every AC. I think it should be by occasional special
request only, like Myrii wanting her cloak.

I don't think that starting times play any roles at the moment.
The last two ACs that started at 5am Pac were still finished in
2-3hours (Bell will want you to believe us Euroscum have the
'advantage' at those times, but we hardly even participated -
Maybe Jasper did )
What's important is that ACs are given a sufficient running
window, and especially those that have synergies. As people go
through reincarnations we are bound to have an X number of them
at any given time - so while they can't help with resources that
require much building advancement or farming them from 90+ level
adventures, they can sure help ie 'Fire in the Arsenal' will
allow their Wildfires to be contributed to 'Braving the Green
Waters' which in turn results in faster resource gain, more ACs
being available to run per week, more Alliance Power and gear to
go around = stronger alliance and members.
As far as the real rewards, I believe that the people who chip
in the most, should have first say in the rewards. For example :
Drogo decides to spend 2gold to unlock Mangonels. Soth decides
he doesn't feel like doing something similar.
Drogo can gather the resources for 'Braving the Green Waters' by
himself. Soth can't.
Drogo should be allowed to 'reserve' an item as a reward for him
spending not only time&gold, but locking down buildings and
resources to make and contribute items to an Alliance Challenge
instead of primarily personal gain.
You can't have your cake and eat it too - not when we number
less than two dozens.
Who ever wants in on this, can simply communicate. I'll unlock
Spitfires, you unlock Siege Towers. Someone else unlocks
Mangonels, and then people just pile up, by choosing and
unlocking one type of siege. It's just 2 gold which can be made
in one week, and we can easily have at least 4 different people
making each type of Siege units, instead of relying on 3 or so
people to make all of them. Again, while siege ain't the best
units, they are strictly for ACs, and by gathering them faster
it means more ACs per week, means stronger alliance blah blah
blah.
As far as rules, since we're all adults here we could probably
sort this thing out without too much hassle. I don't think we
should reach a point where stuff needs to be mandatory or people
disciplined- but if the alliance keeps growing in numbers, rules
will need to be not only implemented but also enforced in some
way.
Wall of text crits you.
TL ; DR
Be a team player.
Use common sense and courtesy.
Don't treat people like doormats.

I think Loren is right on one point. And that is being a team
player is key to a solution for this AC problem. If any member
feels the team has to cater to his/her schedule then this of
course would never be solved. Compromise can only be reached if
a player works with the team as much as the team works with
them.
As for starting time not being a factor, I do believe having an
officer in same timezone starting an AC would in some way help
to make ACs more inclusive in the future. As for any other
suggestions, I'm stumped as is so will leave it to others.
[Edit] Perhaps having more ACs within a 24hr period per week
would help (3 ACs in 24 hr, each started by an officer in one
timezone perhaps?). If a member missed one or even two ACs,
there would always be another chance to participate.
PS- not sure how my family back in ol' Blighty would react to
the term 'Euroscum'... :D

" Take me back to dear old Blighty"
Although I do like this idea, I think we should try this and the
regional rotation as well and see which one is better. I do not
like the limiting of hits because then I have to make myself
open to more starts times than one.
So like Shadow Cat starts at 8 PST, I get my five hits in and
then have to be available at 8 PM tomorrow as well in order to
compete for a prize? I still don't know how long I have to hold
my horses for exactly, 24 hours, 12 hours.

Do you think 8 hours would be reasonable?
