The Underground Library. ~{Darksea}~

You push open a bookcase and step inside. You are in a large
ballroom type place made of white marble and gilded (if that's
the right word) with gold. There are books all over the place,
and plenty of doors. One door leads outside. The outside is
literally an underground cavern.
"We're not only looking for an underground library... we're
looking for an UNDERGOUND LIBRARY!"
another door leads to an amazing library.
Boop.

Just a sketch I drew a while ago. I'm putting scraps of art here
too.

Why not do storytimes?
Making my thread a literal underground library is probably not
wise.
We once went to Carlsbad Caverns, which is here in New Mexico. I
cannot begin to describe how big Carl's Bad Caverns is. Or are?
I don't know. But it's huge. It starts out in daylight, with the
sun shining bright. You walk along a path to a cave. Birds have
built their nests on the walls of the cave using mud and straws.
You can hear them singing, their voices echoing loud through the
cave. There are some stalagmites and stalactites. You can still
see sunlight. Then you go deeper along the path, and there's
actually a point where no more light will reach. Then they've
lot the caverns with their own dim lights, casting an unearthly
glow on the rock formations. I donned a jacket and lifted up my
camera. After a while, I got an idea for a book. A large group
of people is trapped underground, and must live like this. They
slowly change because of the conditions, and after centuries
they are pale skinned, paler than any real human. Their skin is
no longer like skin, but instead resembles waxed parchment
paper, or the surface of a baloon. Or both put together. Their
claws are huge, their structure has changed to resemble
Gollum's. They have hardly any eyes and teeth like razors.
Down there in that cave, after about an hour, I felt like I
could change like that if we stayed here too long.
There was no sunlight at all. The air was stale and... empty.
Being outside, or in a house, even in a house at night, you
can't escape the living air that's been made from living trees.
You can't escape sunlight, even at night, because the moon
reflects it. Down here in this massive, neverending caverns,
there was no sunlight. The air that I breathed in was centuries
old...
After about two hours of walking around and taking pictures, we
all decided that it was time to go to the surface. We still
hadn't even seen all of it, but rather than spend another hour
down there, we returned to the sunlit world.
Not to say that it wasn't amazing. A huge, massive, gargantuan
cavern formed through so so so many years, the formations and
the history and the geology, knowing that there might be more
like this that we just haven't discovered because there is no
above ground entrance. I'd go back some day to see what I didn't
see. I'd recommend that you go and see it. But I wouldn't want
to live underground, or even work underground as one of the tour
guides.
So, that's why I shouldn't have made this an underground
library.
