| The Prime | ~Basilisk~

Prologue

Small waves lapped the shore as the morning sun rose. Soft
chirps filled the air as the birds woke up. The scene itself was
relaxing and calm. This peace was sadly interrupted by the
sounds of wood dragging through sand and annoyed growls from the
beach.

A small, wiry SandWing pushed a handcrafted boat towards the
water. The SandWing's white scales and black diamond markings
glinting in the sun. Her boat held multiple sacks of supplies
and jugs of water with just enough room to fit two dragons if
they didn't mind a squeeze.

The SandWing let out a snort when the waves started to lap
against the boat side. She stopped and looked around, putting
her front paws on the boat and raising her head high as she
searched the shore. No one else seemed to be around.

"I swear if you don't show up, Saltwater." The SandWing
hissed, glaring out at the sea.

"Oh I wouldn't dare do that, Stinger," A smooth voice purred
"You still need to pay me."

Stinger snapped her head to the left where a large, pale blue
and silver SeaWing crawled from the water. He flashed her a
grin, golden tooth proudly displayed.

The SandWing let out an irritated hiss, getting down from the
boat. "You'll be given your gold when you fulfill your end of
the deal."

Saltwater let out a playful annoyed groan. "Yeah yeah I know.
Hop in your little raft and get comfortable. It's a long trip to
that remote land." He flicked sand off his tail as he walked
over to the boat. "You really want to go there? I could always
take you somewhere nice-"

Stinger climbed into the boat, glaring at Saltwater. "I'm
certain. Now pull this thing into the water," She pulled out a
map, coal black eyes glinting as she looked over it. "Like you
said, it's a long trip."

The SeaWing shrugged, sliding the boat into the water and
paddling it past the breaking waves. He held on the back of the
boat and with a powerful swish of his tail they were propelled
forward.

The boat continued into the deep-sea, with Saltwater pushing
them along and Stinger looking forward with her head high. Soon
after they disappeared past the horizon, into the rising sun.
The two never set foot on Pyrhhia again.

Chapter 1
10 years later...

Thunder crashed and rain pelted the mountains of the Sky
Kingdom. The wind roared in a sky no dragon dared to fly in.
Everyone had cooped themselves up in their homes.

At the bottom of the mountain a muscular SkyWing crawled out
of the mouth of the cave. Her claws attempted to grab hold of
solid ground, but the mud slid right through them. The SkyWing
ended up falling forward, mud splashing and caking her pale
orange scales.

She scrambled to her feet, almost falling again in the
process. The SkyWing lifted her head to the sky, squinting
against the warm rain. She could barely see the start of the
mountain top past the stormy weather.

Up there was where all the royal and high-ranking SkyWings
were. With large caves turned into well done homes lined with
gold, high in the glorious sky. It was better than the small mud
pits lowly SkyWings like her were forced to live in.

She shivered at the feeling of sloppy wet mud sliding down her
scales, washed off by the rain. It made her want to scurry back
inside the cave and give herself heavy preening. The SkyWing
couldn't though, the storm provided a rare opportunity she
couldn't miss.

A flash of lightning illuminated the mountain side, allowing
her to catch the gleaming scales of another dragon. Thunder
boomed and she took some careful steps forward. The dragon was
climbing down the rocks, a constant cloud of steam surrounding
him as the rain sizzled at the touch of his scales.

With one jump he glided down to the ground and looked back at
the other SkyWing. He was an almost exact twin of her, copper
orange scales instead of pale orange with golden wing membrane
and blue eyes. The only major difference was that he was smaller
with a leaner build, not as intimidating as the bulkier female.

"Sunstone oh how I've missed you!" The female SkyWing
proclaimed walking up to the other with a warm smile.

"I can say the same, sister. There hasn't been as many storms
allowing me to come down and visit you Shrike." Sunstone replied
giving his twin a nuzzle with his snout.

Shrike embraced her brother with open wings, enjoying the
warmth of his firescales. Any other dragon would have been dead
then, but despite not having fire herself Shrike was immune due
to being the twin of a fireborn.

"You doing well up there now that everything is settled?" She
asked Sunstone as she set her head down on his shoulder.

Shrike was surprised as Sunstone snorted fire and he pulled
back. "It's terrible! There's so many rules and everyone is
scared of me! I'm stuck in a secluded cavern near the palace
alone all day unless I'm needed for something which never
happens!" He hung his head "I wish you were by my side to keep
me company."

Shrike was sickened by this news "I... I'm sorry I didn't
think they would treat you badly up there... Being a dragon
worthy of the Queens attention I thought you would get the
best."

"Fireborns don't get the best treatment," he sighed "And
neither do fireless. I wish I could take you up there with me,
at least it's more comfortable than the bottom caves."

Shrike let out a growl, expressing her new anger "This is the
worst! Everything was great living on the beach with Father! But
then the Queen noticed us and separated us, putting you up there
because of your gift and me as the lowest SkyWing to ever live
with nothing."

Giving his sister a comforting nuzzle Sunstone replied "We
can't do anything about it. We'll have to deal with it until it
changes."

"Then we will change it ourselves!" she insisted "We could...
We could leave the Sky Kingdom!"

"W-what!?" Sunstone said, another lightning flashed clearly
showing his paled scales.

"Yeah!" Shrike said flaring her wings "They were fine without
us anyways! We were only forced into this mess recently. Us gone
wouldn't change a thing."

"Shrike wait you don't understand. The moment they know their
fireborn is gone they'll send dragons after us!" Sunstone
whimpered.

Shrike scoffed "That wont stop us. They wouldn't be able to
touch an eleven year old fireborn like you! Once we're out of
the kingdom we're no longer their problem."

Sunstone was doubtful "I'm not sure it's as easy as you
think."

A fading boom of thunder filled the air and the rain started
to let up. Shrike glared at the sky "We will talk more about
this next time. You have to go before they notice you're gone."

Sunstone gave her one last hug and a sad look before flying
off, the storm safer to fly in now. His metallic scales
disappeared into the stormy grey sky leaving Shrike alone once
more.
