strong and unbending. One might consider her a beauty, with her

terms of her wardrobe, Tara prefers darker earth tones, often
paired with black slacks and sturdy boots. Should a Gather roll
around, she might wear a pleasant-looking dress.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
HISTORY
THEME: N/A
FAMILY:
Parents - both Journeymen Healers - both deceased (old age)
Siblings/Half-Siblings - several, all younger - open tie(s)!
STATUS: Single, open!
HISTORY:
Tara was born to a pair of Journeymen Healers in the bustling
Benden Hold, and it was impressed upon her from a young age that
she was to follow the family tradition and train to be a Healer.
Tara accepted this readily enough. Even as a child, she felt an
intense drive to help any living being in need of aid. Tara was
the sort of girl to escort an elderly gentleman across a street
or set aside what she was doing to help a trader gather up
scattered wares. The path of a Healer was perfect for her, it
seemed, with her compassion and her logical nature. Yet when a
dragon of Benden rode on Search and selected Tara, how could she
decline? While her parents disapproved of such a deviation from
the path they had ordained upon her, it was not their place to
say "no" to a dragonrider. As such, the 18-Turn-old Tara
accepted the Search and went to Benden Weyr.
The days passed into sevendays, the sevendays passed into
four-sevendays, and the four-sevendays passed into Turns. Every
time Tara Stood, she was left behind. No dragonet thought she
she was the bonded for them. It stung...but she never let it
show. Tara always held her head high, even as she aged out at 25
Turns of age. Seeing nothing more that Benden Weyr had to offer
her, she returned to Benden Hold in quiet resignation. The life
of a Healer was still a viable option for her, if she elected to
return to her Apprenticeship, which had been interrupted by
Search and Candidacy. But it was not to be, for a friend she had
made during Candidacy sought her out, one evening. This friend,
a fresh addition to the Wings of Benden, suggested another path:
wherhandling.
Wherhandling wasn't something Benden actively entertained; whers
were the obvious inferior to dragons, and only allowed in the
Weyr to keep trouble off the dragonriders' backs in these times
of Thread. While dragonriders got all the glory, whers were
equally critical to Pern's survival, as was Tara's opinion. What
might her parents think? That was when she realized something:
Tara didn't care what her parents thought. It was they who had
decided everything for her, up until the point of her Search.
This was a decision she would make on her own. And she decided
that yes, she would be a wherhandler. If a dragon decided she
did not have what it took, then the path of a wherhandler would
be hers. After all, while Healers were critical to every Hold
and Weyr, it simply wasn't enough to keep Tara's interest. Even
an Apprenticeship could be of use, but she would not continue to
pursue the rank of Journeyman.
That very night, Tara and her companion went to a wherhandler's
residence in Benden Hold, hoping he might have information for
Tara. Not only did he have information to spare the prospective
wherhandler, but his gold wher had recently run and laid a
clutch as well! What luck! The next four-sevendays were
well-spent by Tara, learning all she could about wherhandling
from the Benden wherhandler himself, while waiting for the wher
eggs to harden and later hatch. At last, the night itself came,
and the eggs began to hatch. Tara presented herself, and the
wise gold wher rolled the largest egg of her clutch to Tara. So
long spent in the queen's presence had left a good impression on
the gold, and Tara was a most worthy young woman. It was that
night that Tara's fortune smiled upon her, for the egg split
neatly to reveal a gold wherlet, her hide like molten gold. Tara
Impressed the young gold, and her entire life changed that very
moment.
Task was everything Tara could want in a lifelong companion.
Task was a firm and unyielding presence at her side, all while
being the closest companion she could ever want. The two of them
were well-matched, and they would go far together. Except...they
didn't. The same dragonrider who'd brought Task into Tara's life
encouraged her to come to Benden Weyr; to serve alongside
dragonriders in the cause to protect Pern. Tara went agreeably,
once Task was grown. Unfortunately, Benden wasn't all it
appeared to be on the outside. Wherhandlers were treated as
little more than glorified guards, lumped in with the ground
crew in poorly-organized groups. All the honor and praise went
to the dragonriders, while the accomplishments and sacrifices of
the wherhandlers went unnoticed. It bothered Tara on a deep
level, seeing those she knew as friends being brushed aside like
they were nothing. But there was little she could do but press
on.
When Haloneth hatched and bonded to Haurchefant, Benden Weyr
found itself in an uproar, and Pern followed as word spread.
Rumors -- all terrible and cruel -- floated to Tara's ears, and
she couldn't bear to think that such things might come to pass.
And when an invitation was extended to Tara to flee Benden with
the young Haloneth to freedom, how could she refuse? Task
agreed. Benden Weyr had done nothing to earn her respect; the
opposite, in fact. This place held nothing for them. Slipping
away under cover of night, Tara and Task found themselves on a
vessel with the other wherhandlers and Haloneth herself, braving
the stormy seas. When they arrived on the Western Continent,
Tara and Task were both certain that this was a new beginning
for everyone, and they began setting down roots.
When Task ran and chose brown Tyrask, only to clutch a fine
clutch of six eggs, Tara couldn't be prouder. Particularly as
the settlement welcomed whers, rather than regarded them as the
inferior cousins to dragons and not worth time nor Candidates.
It came to be quite the shock when one of Task's eggs
yielded...a white! The color hadn't been seen since the days of
Ruth, and Tara saw it as a sign that this place would be
different, in the best of ways. It didn't take long for the
settlement to grow into a Weyr...but a Weyr needed leaders, and
Haurchefant approached Tara for the position of Senior
Wherleader. Tara was surprised, but honored, and accepted the
position after a brief period of deliberation. It is Tara's goal
to help her fellow Weyr-members to see Westwind Weyr into a
bright future...and so far, she's succeeded.

NAME: Task
BIRTHPLACE: Benden Hold
BIRTHDATE: Late Autumn 2586
AGE: 26 as of Late Summer 2612
CLUTCHING
CLUTCHING: Yes
RUNS/FLIGHTS: 1
APPEARANCE
LENGTH: 7.5 ft.
HEIGHT: 5.5 ft.
COLOR: Gold
TEXT COLOR: #f88f16
FULL APPEARANCE:
Task is on the larger end of the size range for a gold, built to
be a sturdy and strong wher. Taking on any number of strenuous
physical activities will be no problem for her, from scaling
sheer slopes to extended periods lopes. As a result, her mating
runs tend to be long by calculation; only the fittest are strong
enough to be Task's suitors. Task boasts a hide that resembles
pure molten gold, a rich orange-gold with a classic bright gold
blended at its base. All in all, a fine example of her color and
species.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY:
Task is a wher of practicality, through and through. Most of her
thought is devoted to the future, for herself, her bonded, and
those under her protection. Emotions rarely, if ever, cloud her
decisions. Task is always calm, even under pressure, so much so
that she can appear cold. Cold, Task is not, but rather stoic
and firm in her resolve. At her heart, she cares deeply for
those close to her, though her respect, trust, and loyalty are
all equally difficult to earn. As a queen, it is one of her many
duties to protect those of her Weyr, no matter the cost. The
needs of the many will always outweigh the needs of the few, as
painful a thing as it is to see through. Someone must be strong
to do the things necessary for the Weyr's survival, and Task
will be the one to bear the strain and be strong, so others will
not need to be strong and face such hardship.
To her bonded, Task is a quiet confidante. While Tara extends
her compassion and mercy to others without hesitation, Task
stays withdrawn and aloof. Strangers have a difficult time
earning Task's trust, and her respect is even harder to acquire.
Few are allowed close to her, and fewer still get to see the
reserved warmth she bears for those she loves. Yes, Task is
certainly capable of love. Such a fierce, intense sort of
love...but love nonetheless. While she'll never admit it, she
has a strong mothering streak, and can't stand to see a young
being alone or hurting. Task will make it her personal goal to
oversee any wayward young soul that needs her. Yet she won't
coddle anyone who is capable of standing on their own two feet.
On that note, she won't tolerate a bully, and often favors the
method of "giving them a taste of their own medicine."
VOICE: Task's voice sounds firm and almost matronly in tone, but
not without warmth; though it isn’t often that she speaks to
others.
