Morning Discussions {Theon & Meteion}

"Don't even think about it, Kiran. I already gave you some when
I probably shouldn't have." Theon spoke as he stared at the
little firelizard sitting on his shoulder, swearing he saw drool
coming from the critter's mouth. Thankfully Kiran has never
actively tried to steal food before, but that didn't stop him
from needing a reminder. Even with that the gold firelizard
still seemed to believe he might get something by nuzzling
Theon's cheek which was only proof of how spoiled he really was.
Turning his attention away to keep picking at his food, it now
only occurred to him how busy the Dining Lodge was getting. The
timing made sense given it was right when most people were
getting up and wanting breakfast, but he perhaps should have
come earlier to avoid the rush entirely. Theon didn't like
crowds for the most part and, by the look of it, most tables
were filling out. Likely that meant someone would be coming over
to sit near him soon due to limited space.
Perhaps if Theon was lucky enough it might be a group or
something that would ignore him while they ate. Wouldn't be the
first time given his much more reserved personality being
usually noticeable, but he also didn't have high hopes. The
candidate still had a decent amount of food on his plate and
there were tons of stragglers without a group so one was bound
to turn up. Sighing a little to himself, he started to look out
for anyone that might be heading toward him. As long as no one
was horribly unpleasant it might actually be good for him to get
some socialization.

Meteion hated this part of communal meals.. the finding of a
place to sit. She looked around and boy was it crowded!Given the
new riders, older riders and the candidates all tended to share
morning meals, she knew it had the potential to be like this.
But this choice always filled her with dread, what if she sat in
the wrong place and made someone angry?
But given the limited places to sit, she found an open one with
at least another candidate... that was a good place to start eh?
Walking over, she then spoke to Theon. " G..good morning to you.
May I sit here? Its a bit crowded today.. and if not.. its okay,
I can find another spot." She replied and Starbird poked his
face out from her bag and peeped softly, he was never far from
her.

And there it was. Thankfully as Theon looked over it just seemed
to be a nice girl and she was even a candidate too unless his
eyes were deceiving him. Kiran seemed to perk up a little
himself as he additionally heard the peep of another firelizard,
though stubbornly he stuck to his owner's shoulder. It wasn't
uncommon, he always tried to make sure that his owner was fine
first before anything else.
"Uh, Good morning and it's not a problem. Things have gotten
pretty crowded..." Theon answered, shifting to set down his fork
so he could motion towards any of the open seats by him. There
was another pause, but... he should really say something else,
shouldn't he? Instead of just commenting on the obvious? "So
uh... How are you...? I... Meteion... was it? I'm not always
good with names..." Theon murmured, internally cringing at his
own awkward tone.

Meteion took the seat across from Theon, so not to be too much
near his personal space, respecting it and all that. " Yes, I am
Meteion.. and I believe you are Theon yes? She replied, reaching
into her memory banks for the name. She often was good with
remembering the names of her fellow classmates. He stood out a
bit more than most but she was not going to bring up his missing
limb, it was none of her business and likely a sore subject.
However, secretly, she quietly admired him for overcoming such a
test of will and physical aptitude to become a candidate and she
hoped he would find his dragon this hatching. Then again.. she
wanted that for everyone but herself, doubting she would measure
up.
" Also good morning. I hope you are having a wonderful start to
your day.. and my goodness, what a lovely flit!" She replied and
then noticed Kiran and smiled at the bubbly gold firelizard.
Starbird decided to climb out of her bag and accepted her offer
of a slight bit of bread from her plate, peeping happily.

Theon nods to show that she was correct with his name, adding a
soft "That's right". He could appreciate how Meteion made sure
to still give him some space and it did help him relax a tiny
bit, his shoulders relaxing in return. It helped that the other
seemed to draw attention to Kiran instead of anything else.
Hearing his name, Kiran let out a happy little chitter which
seemed to be a hello to the other person. Theon didn't know if
it actually was implied from the noise, but he liked to believe
that his flit was smart enough to know what a greeting was.
"Uh, thank you. This is Kiran, he's usually pretty friendly..."
The candidate remembers to explain, his own gaze then moving
towards the little flit Meteion brought with her as it climbed
out of her bag. "Oh, your flit is rather pretty as well... what
is their name...?" He decides to ask, tone honest despite the
awkward wording. He's always held an admiration for all flits of
any color with how Kiran had helped him.

Meteion blushed slightly, realizing she sort of focused on the
flit rather than the candidate to whom it belonged. " Kiran..
what a lovely name and beautiful color. Nice to meet you, Kiran.
This is Starbird. He's quite the ball of energy, usually pretty
friendly unless someone or something hurts me.. and then he
becomes bitey." She replied and smiled warmly. " If I may be so
bold, are you a bit nervous about this hatching too? I feel like
I am somewhere between excited and petrified." She said in an
effort to steer conversation.

Theon really didn't mind the attention being on Kiran, the flit
always had adored being spoken to regardless of who it was. "I
could understand that." He spoke, though it was more than true
that Kiran had bitten many a person before. However, as the
topic of the hatching came up, he couldn't help shuddering
slightly. "Uh... I guess I'm in the same place....? I don't know
what to expect. I've never liked things being unknown before...
I don't think I'll be able to eat when it starts." He admitted
in a slightly more quiet tone, but loud enough that Meteion
could still hear. As much has he would love to say he'd be glad
for any impression he could get, there was a large pit in his
stomach at the thought of everything that could occur.

" I can understand that, despite how our lessons tell us we
should make sure we have eaten and drank prior to taking places
on the hatching sands. I am pretty sure I want to keep my meal
light, just in case. I bet the dragon you impress is going to be
lovely and strong, just like I bet you are." Meteion replied
with a smile.
" Did you have a hide color you hope your future bonded would
be? I just want a dragon friend, it does not matter to me what
color the hide is, I can only hope they are kind and loving."
She rambled then, realizing she was doing so, she flushed
slightly. " Apologies for my rambling.. sometimes.. I do that."

Theon personally didn't pay much mind to how much Meteion was
talking as it meant less time he had to stumble over his own
words. Part of him felt strange at the thought of a strong
dragon, or even just a lovely one. Both seemed unlikely, yet he
didn't want to get his own hopes up too much. "It's fine. I
don't mind." He shrugs off the apologies, making a small,
dismissive motion with his hand.
"I'm sure you have good chances of impressing too... and I mean,
I don't really care much for color either, really." Theon shrugs
once more, seeming to need a moment to think before continuing.
"I guess maybe a brown if I had to choose, but I wonder more
about what the dragon's personalities will be. It's my main
concern. I.. don't know what I'd want, but I don't know what I'd
do with a bad-tempered one. I mean, I'm sure there would be one
or two." The candidate admits, brow furrowing as he shifted his
gaze down towards his food in thought.

" I don't think I could handle a bad tempered dragon either.. I
hate being mean. I had my taste of it in my past trying to fit
into a friend group and well.. I could not follow through with
it and it ended badly.. but that is back in Benden and in the
past. I am striving to be a better person here."[b] Meteion
replied, taking a few moments to eat some of her own food before
she spoke again.
[b] A brown is usually a good steady choice. Most I have seen
have been very driven and work oriented but kind. I am glad that
with our current leadership here that color status is not really
an issue. That much was certain when Haloneth chose a blue as
her nesting partner. You would never hear of that happening back
in Benden." She rambled, realized she was doing it again.. and
promptly shoved more food into her mouth to be quiet.
