"’Sothy, your great ability to fly after tail better than the
other dragons is no basis for a system of government in this day
and age."
BASICS
NAME: V’tani, formerly Vítani
BIRTHDATE: Winter, 2577
AGE: 35 as of Winter, 2612
GENDER: Male
ORIENTATION: What happens in the Weyr, stays in the Weyr.
BIRTHPLACE: Lemos Hold
LOCATION:Westwind Weyr
OCCUPATION: Bronzerider, Journeyman Woodcarver
WING: “There’s no Thread, what’s even the point?” (Probably
Nebula, they need someone large in there.)
APPEARANCE
HAIR: Sun-streaked brown, wavy, cut to just below
shoulder-length, left loose or in a half-bun. Tightly braided
and pinned when working.
EYES: Hazel
HEIGHT: 6’3” / 1.92 m
WEIGHT:180 lb / 82kg
HTML https://www.height-weight-chart.com
APPEARANCE: V’tani is tall and leanly-muscular at 6’3” in
height, as though he never filled out fully from being a gangly
teenager. He has an old, silvered scar from his right hip to the
knee from where his dragon accidentally clawed him when the
bronze hatched and tripped on his way towards his new partner.
Sun-streaked brown, wavy, cut to just below shoulder-length,
left loose or in a half-bun on his own time, but kept, tightly
braided and pinned up when working. His eyes are dark brown,
piercing, and fit nicely with his long and oval face, he looks
more serious than he actually is. He is naturally good at
keeping a straight face when telling jokes.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: V’tani had tendencies towards the very serious
during Wing exercises or in dealing with dragons or Weyr
business in general when he was in Benden Weyr. He was the
veritable image of a perfect bronzerider when going about the
Holds and Crafthalls; formal but not aloof, respectful without
demanding deference, disarming but not over-casual. Outside of
formal situations, he is easygoing, with a quick wit and quicker
smile, sizing up and adapting to the mood of the room like an
emotional chameleon. However, behind that smile is a
perpetually calculating mind, that lines individuals up
according to measurements and metrics that he knows better than
to say out-loud to common folk. He is his realest, most relaxed
self with his friends, which as of last count, only numbered
two.
While he is dedicated to being a lifelong learner and regularly
searches out new interests and short-term hobbies, V’tani has
his…opinions. Having been raised in the subtle, PvP-esque,
meritocracy of the Crafthall system before his Impression, he
has no tolerance for weakness and a distinct anathema towards
unearned authority. Internally, he has a constant inclination
towards planning ahead to end up at the top of the heap, and
making him change his mind can be like trying to stop an
invisible tide, externally, he will smile and nod and tell you
exactly what you need to hear.
It was no accident, years down the line, as his nature slowly
became known to those observant in Weyr leadership, that he was
often sent along with Search riders to help ferry back new
candidates and surreptitiously gauge the states of cotholds and
holder attitudes. Through the applied use of his poise and
charm, he’s extremely capable in his ability to start easy
conversation with anyone, and then turn around and report it
back to leadership with precision and suggestions for
exploitable pressure points.
FAMILY & ACQUAINTANCES
FAMILY: Parents, both Journeyman-level WoodCrafters in Lemos.
Two older brothers (one in the family WoodCraft as a purchaser,
the other as a vendor), one younger brother (in WoodCrafthall
human resources), one or two sisters-in-law by now.
STATUS: Technically single.

HISTORY
2577, Winter – Born in Lemos Hold, birth uneventful.
2584 – Age 7, childhood largely uneventful, natural capacity for
organization of toys and dimensional space noted. Shortlisted
for enrollment at age 10 into a WoodCraft apprenticeship.
2587 – Age 10, Summer, Woodcraft apprenticeship begins, slight
issues with non-parental authority noted.
2592 – Age 15, Apprenticeship is well underway, talent for
sculpture, wood choice, and tool manipulation noted. Direction
for training begins to shift away from strictly utilitarian
purposes as one of his apprentice cutlery sets showed
self-initiative on applying detail work on handles and was
purchased at higher-than-expected request rate. This was also
with an increased interest in aesthetic wood pieces due to the
growth and maintenance of hard and softwood forests finally
being ready for managed and regular harvest. The WoodCraft’s
growth was spearheaded by Lord Asengar back during the start of
the 9th Pass as a way to break domination of breakable pottery
and earthern ware held by Smithcraft monopoly.
2595 – Age 18, Early Spring, Promotion to Journeyman gained
through the submitted project of a three-dimensional, spatially
flexible, puzzle fish series of intricately carved and fitted
wooden pieces, reclaimed from a scrap burn pile as a previously
unusable, knotted burl.

2595 – Age 18, Late Spring, Searched by a Benden bluerider and
agreed to stand at the current due hatching, not expecting
actual Impression. He was actually only seeking to use the
opportunity to gain artistic inspiration for a new art large
piece to help promote the developing aesthetic appreciation
branch of Lemos WoodCrafting.
2595 – Age 18, Late Spring, Impresses to bronze Chrysoth from
BendenWeyr. Journeyman progress is immediately placed on
administrative hold.
2598 – Weyrlinghood uneventful, the pair meet expected metrics
and all milestones at expected timing. Slight issues with
authority noted. Now named, V’tani, does not formally return to
the Craft, but continues creating small art for independent sale
through brokers when time permits.
2599 – Fall, Chrysoth sustains minor injury during a boar hunt
in Northern Benden. The injury determined to have been due to
poor aim by a hunting partner, also aloft on their dragon at the
time. Both riders are chastised, but as this is not during a
Pass, the fighting fitness of their dragons is not strictly
required except for ceremonial flyovers. Both riders behave for
a time, but then return to regular yearly fall hunts with no
further incidents.
2600 – V’tani and Chrysoth are often asked to accompany Search
dragons, purportedly to show off Chrysoth as bait to lure new
candidates as he is particularly human-friendly. V’tani is
tasked to monitor growth of local green near habitations, and
act as a friendly, affable dragonrider as part of an internal
Weyr program to regularly take the temperature of holder
attitudes of dragons and their riders in Benden Weyr’s tithing
holds and cotholds.
V’tani makes the suggestion of occasionally allowing bored
riders to volunteer their services as desired, to maintain a
‘human’ face with the locals and prevent any overdevelopment of
resentments towards dragonkind as tithes continue but the
learned fear of Thread is lost. This meets moderate success, as
many families are less reluctant to provide their children for
Search, as the Impressed children are able to visit once they
have graduated from weyrlinghood with adult dragons. Thus was
maintained a thin, but real kinship with dragonriders as related
but distant family, instead of a monolithic group of flying
parasites.
2601 – to 2609 – Largely Uneventful. Search and sweep duties
intermittent but assigned. There is a great deal of free time,
V’tani makes the most of it with experimental art styles,
mediums and research into dragon geneology, Second Crossing
conspiracies, and generally living as a dragonrider during an
Interval. He spends much of that free time in Lemos, assisting
in family and minor Craft manners. Takes up an interest in the
forestry side of the Woodcraft, and is soon actively helpful in
helping move lumberjacks and their cargo in an out of forested
areas with other rider volunteers.

2610 – Summer, V’tani and Chrysoth, like many pairs not
actively involved in Weyr politics casually noted the issue of
Haloneth.
Opinions are mixed as expected, but the majority opinion in
the group of roughly 30 rider pairs along the area of the Weyr
ridge where Chrysoth and V’tani resides was, “Not my dragon, not
my problem”. As everyone had daily roles and tasks that are
absolutely unaffected by dramatic holders and Weyrlearship’s
inability to make prompt decisions on the matter.
A betting pool was immediately formed for fun among a
sub-group of about 18 rider pairs in that group. Pitching in
marks, dares, homemade liqueurs, promises and witnessed
handshake agreements compromise the bets placed. Probabilities
of outcomes and new event to bet on were updated daily when the
new screeching about any new goldpair behavior was received.
Most agreed after mild sharing of notes and evening nightcaps in
the following days that clearly Haurcefant was an unwilling
victim in the whole situation. However, something was
catastrophically wrong with Haloneth. Her bonding was an issue
leadership would inevitably pay for not immediately and
permanently dealing with.
Among some of the bets in the pool, several low probability but
high payout bets were: “Haloneth is actually a very sandy
green.” / “Finding out the rider is actually a statuesque woman”
/ “Sneaks off in the middle of the night.” / “Collective fever
dream caused by bad tithing of asparagus.”
2610p – Summer - As it so happens, “Sneaks out in the middle of
the night” was one of the winning bets from the pool, with
“Haloneth is actually a very sandy green” also being true, in a
sense.
The entire weyr betting pool group was aware of Auron’s little
plan, due to a spy sent in to infiltrate for the pool’s
amusement, feigning sympathy for the situation and their desire
to leave, near the start of the whole kerfuffle. Juicy Weyr
gossip also being a high currency among bored dragonriders.
Said other bronzerider in his role of spy was more than eager to
show off long sidelined Harper acting chops to his friends in
the pool and played his role to the hilt.
The entire pool was awake and watching the move when it
occurred, attempting to then tabulate secondary bets for who
would defect after all and if any would chicken out at the last
second.
The spy, acutely uninterested in actually following what the
pool concluded was a clear suicide run, peeled away from Auron’s
cluster and went back to their weyr under the same cover the
group was escaping under. Mission accomplished.
V’tani, meanwhile, had long been thinking about what their spy
said the group’s destination was. The Western Continent had
long been an enigma, with no exploration attempts done, no
observations made, aside from minor coastline mapping from
passing ships. As the spy reported back in, smug in his
stealthy success, V’tani asked if the gap he’d left had been
noticed. The spy said it was unlikely, no one had been looking
at them when they’d dropped below cover to double-back and the
lot of them had all been scrabbling. V’tani took a moment to
weigh options, and then he and Chrysoth silently slipped in to
take other’s place at the tail end of the group. Slipping
lightly into gap in formation and settling in for a long flight.
One silent bronze looks very much like any other silent bronze
when speed and frantic running are the only thing on an escaping
flock’s mind in the middle of night.
It says much about the organized chaos and haste of the
departure and flight that their presence was not commented on
until sight of the Western Continent was reached and the first
party of dragons had landed. By then it was realized they had
been there the whole time. V’tani and Chrysoth immediately made
themselves utility useful, pulling in years of practice in
helping set up and break down logging camps stabilize and build
out the rough structures. Few of the others had any recent and
practical experience in woodwork, having lived all their lives
in the stony caverns of the Weyr.
Questions about why they were there were tidily swept aside by
the need for actual help in getting settled.
2611 - 2612 – More often that not, V’tani and Chrysoth have been
spending time outside of the Weyr complex. The weyr has no
wings to practice respectable formation with. There are no
holdings to monitor. Ista Weyr’s political maneuvering is also
similarly of little interest. What has caught V’tani’s
attention is the undamaged nature of the Western Continent.
Unguarded by dragonflight, and absolutely in the same recent
path of thread. The Unexplored Plains, lush despite the recent
Pass. Have been a source of deep curiosity and set several gears
turning in V’tani’s head.

NAME: Chrysoth, (his rider calls him Sothy as a pet name)
BIRTHPLACE: Benden Weyr
BIRTHDATE: Spring, 2595
AGE: 17 as of Spring, 2612
LENGTH: 50 ft / 15.24 m
HEIGHT: 12 ft / 3.65 m
WINGSPAN: 75 ft/ 22.86 m
COLOR: Bronze
TEXT COLOR: #CD7F32
APPEARANCE: A dark, burnished bronze in color, Chrysoth is
daintily built, a draconic mirror to his angular rider. He has
unusually pale claws on his right side and a ragged blotch of
lighter bronze coloring starts behind his wingshoulders, slants
to the right and ends midway down his tail. Having been hatched
long after the last year of Threadfall, Chrysoth never had the
opportunity to fly against it. The only scars on his hide, now
faint, were those incurred by accidentally getting bow shot in
the rump in Autumn of 2599 during a boar hunt.
PERSONALITY
PERSONALITY: Charming, chill and socially-smart, Chrysoth will
rarely be in a conversation without attempting to pay at least
one sincere complement to whomever he is speaking with, a
tendency that has served him very well when interacting with the
Crafters and relatives from his bonded’s old life. Denied the
pleasant danger of fighting thread, Chrysoth instead enjoys
indulging in aerial stunts instead for similar excitement, much
to the detriment of his rider’s startle-reflex and to the
enjoyment of green dragons.
However, pleasant Chrysoth is to everyone, he is a general hater
of firelizards and small birds, seldom hesitating to snap or
slap at any that buzz or flutter around his head. With no
apologies offered for crunching anyone’s untrained or suicidally
overconfident pet. This trait was noted in his young
weyrlinghood, when flies and vtols were size-equivalent targets
for his sudden, immediate wrath. V’tani has managed to curb that
one abrasive impulse into at least convincing Chrysoth to give a
warning snarl first and keeping them both weyred in the higher,
less popular ledges, to avoid setting Sothy up for a bad
interaction with someone else’s flit as best he can.
VOICE: Chrysoth sounds very much like V’tani, but tends towards
less inflection with a dry finish in his tone. No matter where
he is, his voice always sounds like it's coming from just behind
the listener's left ear.

V'tani of Bronze Chrysoth [RFE]
By: Agenothree Date: July 14, 2022, 9:40 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
- V'tani will need a minor trait to be a Journeyman Crafter. One
major trait can be redeemed to be two minor traits, as needed!
"It was no accident that he was often sent along with Search
riders to help find new candidates and surreptitiously gauge the
states of cotholds and holder attitudes through the use of his
poise, charm and ability to start easy conversation with anyone,
and then turn around and report it back to leadership with
precision and suggestions for exploitable pressure points."
- At what point in V'tani's life did this occur? I'll say
dragonriders wouldn't allow a Candidate or weyrling to accompany
seasoned dragonriders on something as delicate as Search. But
such a trait would make V'tani a coveted and very skilled
Searchrider upon graduation from weyrlinghood.
"STATUS: Technically single, though a dragon-mediated two-way,
three-person relationship is present. To call it complicated in
the current situation is an understatement."
- What does this mean? Please clarify this or remove it to be
"single."
- In V'tani's history, you make no in-depth mention of what
occurred between his Impression to Chrysoth and all the time up
to Haloneth's hatching. In addition, at the end of V'tani's
history, you make no mention of Haloneth's hatching itself, the
resulting impact of her decision to Impress to Haurcefant, the
journey to the Western Continent, and the forming of Westwind
Weyr. Please include these at the relevant points in his
history!
