As a general note, those of the Traditional mindset (called
Traditionalists) tend to regard out-of-the-norm Impressions as
wrong and something to frown upon; Haloneth's Impression to
Haurchefant is a prime example.
Gold
Length: 58-74 ft.
Height: 12-16 ft.
Wingspan: 76-90 ft.
All hail the queen! Golds are regarded as the queens of
dragonkind, and typically the largest dragons on Pern. It is the
orders of the queen all dragons obey above all, even over the
ones they consider bonded, on occasion. A queen typically rises
to mate in her second Turn and only clutches about once a Turn;
though some golds can rise and clutch up to twice a Turn,
depending on age and health. A gold can lay up to 20 eggs or
more, especially in times of Thread, but the standard range is
about 10-15 eggs; more or fewer eggs again depends on the age
and health of the gold. It is they who are capable of bringing
forth a new queen, and golds are the rarest of all dragons to be
born, and prove very selective when it comes to the bonded they
choose. Only women have been selected by a young gold...until
now.
Bronze
Length: 52-64 ft.
Height: 11.5-15 ft.
Wingspan: 74-86 ft.
The largest of the colors of male dragons, bronzes are
considered the leaders of a Weyr, under the queen. The second
rarest dragons to be born, a bronze is just as picky as his
queen when he seeks a bonded. Only the best are selected, while
every Candidate dreams for a bronze's favor on the Sands. Those
lucky enough to be chosen by a bronze often end up as
Wingleaders, and the one whose dragon flies the queen in mating
flight attains the honor and responsibility of Weyrleader...so
long as a brown of notable size and strength does not challenge
the bronzes for the title. Bronzes Impress to men, though some
non-binary individuals have been spared a glance as of
late.
Brown
Length: 44-58 ft.
Height: 9.5-12.75 ft.
Wingspan: 58-76 ft.
Browns are considered the sturdy workhorses of the Weyr, the
second largest male dragon. A life of duty awaits one who
Impresses a brown, but it is not a life to dread. Browns are
said to be quite even-tempered beasts; gentle giants. Many
bonded to browns find the position of Wingsecond a common one to
attain with relative ease, but other positions browns are suited
for are schooling Candidates or weyrlings. Browns are not quite
as selective as a gold or bronze, but browns are an uncommon
color all the same. Browns have Impressed to men since the very
beginning, but a brown of Ista Weyr Impressed to a non-binary
individual in the last few Turns. Many Traditionalists know not
what to make of this.
Blue
Length: 28-36 ft.
Height: 6.75-10.25 ft.
Wingspan: 48-62 ft.
While they are not as quick and agile as the speedy greens,
blues are still swift and precise in the air, and the smallest
of the male colors. Often utilized as messengers, scouts, some
filling Assistant positions, and some as Search-dragons. Blues
are quite numerous in the Weyr's population, and most often fly
greens when they rise. On rare occasions, a blue might chase a
gold and win her favor, though only the most bold of blues
pursue a queen. In addition, a queen holds her own preferences
to who she'll select as her mate, and few allow blues that
honor. Most blues Impress to men or non-binary individuals, but
several Telgar blues have Impressed to women in the past few
Turns. Many Traditionalists feel that even Impressing to
non-binary individuals should not be a thing blues do, but for a
woman to ride blue is something else entirely.
Green
Length: 24-32 ft.
Height: 6-9 ft.
Wingspan: 32-54 ft.
The second and smallest female of all the dragons, as well as
the most numerous color, greens are known for remarkable speed
and agility in the air. Greens were said to display a playful
and headstrong nature, but greens display a broad range of
personalities and temperaments. Those that ride greens do not
have many options for a position in the Weyr. Greens rise
frequently and do not clutch, as once they have chewed
firestone, they are rendered sterile. It was believed that
greens did not produce viable dragons, but the recent clutches
of Westwind have disproved this. When they do clutch, greens
yield anywhere between 2-6 eggs, often sired by blues or browns.
Greens have Impressed to both men and women for hundreds of
Turns, and many non-binary individuals have been chosen by
greens in the recent Turns. Many Traditionalists think greens
should Impress to women and only women.
