Songs of the Seasons [Hatching]
By: Haurchefant Date: October 9, 2022, 12:32 am
---------------------------------------------------------
It was a cold winter night and the crisp wind of fall had
settled in on Westwind weyr. It was as the clouds cleared the
sky, the full moon shining bright... that shaking came from the
Fieldhand egg and it began to split open.
" Elask eggs are hatching, get here NOW!" Elask called out, her
voice firm and loud, her tone serious. She did not have time to
sit around while her children were coming into the world. She
needed folks here and she needed them now!

Wherhandler Zakaria of Blue Karask
Zakaria was alerted to Elask's call at once, with Karask getting
to his claws with a loud snort. Elask calls! Up, up! Our
hatchlings are coming, we WILL NOT keep them waiting! We go,
NOW! He demanded, nearly taking off at a run without her.
"You great blue brat, wait for me-!" Zakaria laughed, racing off
after her excitable wher. She and Karask ran to Elask's side,
arriving there first. The blue male rumbled affectionately to
the clutchmother, his voice warbling.
Elask, my fairest! We are here! We came, we are not leaving you
waiting! He practically sang to her, approaching to lie down
nearby for as long as he was permitted to. Zakaria laughed and
dipped her head in greeting as she took her spot.
"Yes, thank you, Elask. Again, this is a wonderful opportunity
to take part in! May all these wherlets hatch healthy and find
worthy partners!"

Wherhandler Diarmid of Bronze Diarsk - Open
Diarmid immediately perked up at the sound of Elask's call,
announcing that her children were hatching and needed folks to
show up this instant. Quickly he was up and making his way right
toward where the clutch was, keeping Bubba at home to sleep
while Diarsk followed so he could at least watch to see if his
handler would be picked for one of the wherlets.
'Diarsk, best behavior, alright? Don't need you hovering.' He
spoke not unkindly, but stern. Diarmid wanted to show Elask the
utmost respect for her choices and her clutch so he was giving a
warning as an extra precaution.
'Hmph, Diarsk knows this. Don't need to be scolded. You are the
one who is not calm.' The bronze huffed, perhaps a little huffy
but he seemed to understand that his handler was simply excited
and wanted things to go well. While the wher wasn't horribly
excited at the thought of sharing, he wanted him to be happy so
he'd do his best to not harm his chances of being chosen.
Arriving behind a few others, he sends a small smile toward
Elask and greets her kindly as he moves to take his place among
those standing. Granted he keeps closer to the back, but mostly
because someone of his height doesn't need to be in the front to
be seen. He's made himself known and now it's all up to Elask.
Diarsk lays down some length behind him as an extra source of
comfort, making it clear he was just watching out for Diarmid
and observing the event.
Candidate Aylee - Open, mentions Aymeric
Admittedly she had dozed off before the blaring sound of Elask's
call had pulled them out of dreamland. It took Aylee a moment to
realize what had happened, but soon she was getting ready and
quickly heading off as fast as she could. A beautiful night as
any for a hatching, though she wonders if Aymeric or any other
family members would maybe be there to watch. Perhaps not and
they wouldn't blame their family for sleeping instead as there
wasn't a guarantee she'd be picked.
It's a distant hope still despite that and part of her was just
glad she managed to be somewhat composed in comparison to how
she felt. A practiced skill they treasured really, no one wants
to look anything less than confident when standing before the
clutchmother.
"H-hello Elask, thank you for the chance." Aylee makes sure to
greet the wher once she arrives, brushing back a few strands of
her bangs before standing alongside the others. Her gaze moves
over the eggs carefully before watching the one that had started
to hatch. No more time to think, they just had to accept that
whatever would happen is what was right. It's best to keep one's
hopes at a manageable level if they didn't want to come out of
this disappointed.

Elask nodded her head in greetings to those that had arrived and
greeted her. Looking down at the cracking egg, she thought back
to the touching, her children speaking to her with their
feelings. She rose up and gently nudged the Fieldhand egg
forward a bit and then stopped and locked eyes with Zakaria.
" You... calm down a bit. This baby will help you, be good to
baby, good wher." Elask said as she nudged the egg over to
Zakaria.
With a loud pop, a baby wherlet spilled onto the ground, still
slightly covered with a bit of egg goo.

A brown! A strong and sturdy brown from the looks of it.
Not wishing to fall behind, the Hearts Alight egg began to shake
and crack.

(Diaval and Valsk's profile will be posted for viewing
ASAP!)
As Elask's voice rang through Westwind, dusk found Diaval in
contemplation, watching the sun set across those distant plains,
Valsk a warm and comforting bulk at his back. Drawn from his
musing with a jolt, Diaval and Valsk both looked toward where
Elask's quarters lay, deep within Westwind. Valsk bounded to his
feet, almost dumping Diaval into the dirt with his excitement.
Eggs hatch at last! he bellowed, bouncing like he wasn't a
massive brown wher. "Yes..." Diaval responded, rising from his
seat, dusting himself off. Not excited? Valsk asked, confused.
"No," Diaval hurried to reassure his wher as they moved to
answer Elask's summons. "I am most pleased. A hatching is
something to celebrate, of course!" But why so quiet? "I...I am
not sure that I am ready. Last minute jitters, I suppose."
Diaval chuckled uneasily and ran a hand down his robes, stifling
a nervous hiccup, but Valsk just nudged him as they entered the
darkness that was Westwind's wher dens. No worrying today! Valsk
insisted. Today is day for good feeling and cheer, not feeling
down and fretful! Diaval managed a jerky nod, cleared his
throat, and strode into Elask's open quarters. It seemed they
were late, for an egg had hatched a brown for the clutchsire's
handler. Offering a half-bow of respect and apology for his
tardiness for Elask, Diaval made his way to some far corner
where the other handlers and hopeful Candidates Stood, Valsk
waiting outside; a crowded room was no place for such a large
and clumsy beast. Where he Stood, Diaval kept his head down,
quiet, hands clasped before him as he resisted the urge to
fidget.

Wherhandler Zakaria of Blue Karask and Brown Riask
Zakaria was NOT expecting to be chosen first.
An egg was rolled to her feet, and out pupped the most handsome,
sturdy little brown wherlet she had ever seen. Even Karask
seemed to be stunned and impressed by this, his first wherlet, a
son!
Handsome! As if one would be any less, when Elask is the mother!
He praised, watching as Zakaria took the offered blade from the
Wherlingmaster, making a careful and clean cut to her palm.
"Thank you for trusting your first to me, Elask." She spoke up,
kneeling down. "I promise to be good to you, little one. Or...
not so little, are you? Haha!"
Am not little. My name Riask. You, Zakaria, mine. Share with
father, but mine just the same. The wherlet spoke, his tone warm
but stern as he spoke to the lass. Zakaria rested her now
bleeding palm to his forehead, then allowed him to lick the
remaining blood from her palm, thereby cementing their bond.
"Well, Riask, I'm happy to have you along. Maybe Elask is right,
and I do need to calm down a little. Let's see where this
newfound path takes us, eh?"

Wherhandler Diarmid of Bronze Diarsk - Open, Reaction to
hatching
He watched as the first egg was rolled over to Zakaria before a
little brown wher broke its way out of the egg and into the
world. A beautiful brown at that and he was quick to clap for
her. "Congrats, Zakaria." He spoke, giving a nod towards the
other handler as she moved to bond to the wherlet. His gave then
moved back to the next egg, the one he had actually visited at
the touching. Diarmid waited to see the next selection.
Candidate Aylee - Open, Reaction to hatching
Too late to back out now. The first egg was rolled over to
Zakaria as Elask's first pick. The brown that hatched out was
quite cute and she gave her congratulations in kind. Their gaze
didn't linger on the pair for long and quickly shifted over to
watch the next egg and pay attention to Elask's next decision.
She noticed she had started to fidget, but quickly the candidate
stifled the action and fixed it by placing her hands at her
side. There were still five eggs to go.

Elask looked quite pleased with herself, confidant in her choice
for her first egg. As the second egg seemed to be rushing to
escape, she knew that she had to make her choice quickly... but
she already knew who as soon as she locked eyes with the right
human.
" Oi, you better be good to this baby.. fine baby, you need
baby... and baby need you. Don't forget that.". She said and
rolled the egg to Aylee. As the egg bumped into the chosen's
leg, the egg wiggled and split open, protesting sounds coming as
a small nose poked its head out. Taking a bit longer than its
sibling, it managed to fully hatch out and a very tired little
wherlet spilled out at Aylee's feet. The tiny head lifted to
make eye contact with their new handler and a soft whimper was
given.. almost begging to be loved on.

But.. what a weird color.. what even was this color? Elask had
smirked knowingly to herself and it seems Haloneth was not the
only one with surprises.

Wherhandler Diarmid of Bronze Diarsk - Open, Reaction to
hatching
Diarmid watched as Elask rolled the egg over to a candidate. He
didn't know her name, but he was more focused on the wherlet as
it broke it's way free. What.... what was that? He had been to
so many hatching before and swore he had never seen a color like
that before. Was it because of Elask's own strange coloration?
Or luck? Whatever it was, the baby was beautiful and he gave his
congratulations. Hesitantly maybe, but only from his confusion.
Candidate Aylee - Open, IW Aylesk & Reaction
She had been so certain she'd have to wait longer that she
admittedly jumped a bit when Elask spoke and rolled over the
next egg to her. "I.. I-I thank you! I'll do my best." The
candidate spoke, doing her best to not sound too shocked by this
turn of events, especially when her focus moved to watch the egg
as it hatched.
However, whatever composure they had before broke when out
plopped a bright, pink colored wherlet. The little thing seemed
so tired, giving a whimper at her, yet... was she even alright?
What color was this? Aylee had prepared for hopefully a blue or
maybe a green to have a smaller wher. Not this, but there was no
real time to hesitate. Freezing up now could cause even more
problems; maybe someone else could offer answers later.
Nervously, she took the blade offered by the wherlingmaster and
sliced a small cut into her hand, gently smearing some of the
blood over the wherlet's head. After they lowered their palm to
her directly, watching as she licked up some of the blood and
fully finished their bond.
'Aylee.. Aylesk tired. Hold me...? Please don't be worried. You
still like me, yes?' A gentle, sweet voice spoke to them soon
and Aylee could only move to pull the pink wherlet closer. Yes,
the color might be strange, but how could Aylee not love such a
sweet creature?
"It's alright... I.. I got you." They murmured softly to their
new companion in hopes of easing any fears. Perhaps she'd be
lying if she said her eyes didn't water from the overwhelming
amount of emotions she held in her chest.

Almost as if waiting politely for their siblings to finish
bonding, the Moonviewing egg began to fracture.
HTML https://i.imgur.com/pTlIOMj.png
Elask looked at the group... then looked.. then looked some
more. Her gaze rested on Diarmid for a moment before she looked
towards another person.. and rolled the egg to them, it stopping
just in front of... Diaval.
" You late.. but not too late. Elask think this baby good for
you.". She said as she sat back and waited.
Quietly and as elegantly as one could, the egg split cleanly in
half and the wherlet within stood up slowly and looked up at
Diaval with a quiet warmth in her gaze.
HTML https://i.imgur.com/5ZzstVT.png
A green! A smaller green, but a green none the less!
" I sorry I kept you waiting.. but am here for you, don't be
scared." She said as she reached out to him, her voice soothing
and gentle.
With that, the Northern Lights egg began to splinter.
