Blue Feathers on the Wind [Touching]

Shaela sat back against the wall of their wher's large living
space, looking at Elask, as she sat with her eggs. With the eggs
hardened, they would be hatching soon. But their wher had made a
very odd request.. she wanted to see those whom would be
standing before her before the hatching. Let them touch her
precious eggs.. see if she could get any feelings from them.
" Are you sure this is what you want Elask? This is really not
the way things are done.. its more a dragon thing." Shaela
replied and got an irritated snort their direction from the very
large female.
"Elask is not stupid. Dragon not only ones that want to see what
pickings be for their offspring. Elask's eggs, Elask choice...
want this. " The wher replied, rising like she was going to
stomp her feet and Shaela laughed.
" Haha okay, have it your way lass." They replied and went out
to gather everyone that wished to be considered for the clutch,
glad to have lists beforehand... Haurchefant was a through man,
if not him, his second Cora at least had the sense to get this
information out, as well as Tara.

Wherhandler Zakaria of Blue Karask
Zakaria turned a worried blue gaze up to her partner, whose mind
was intently, even solely focused on Elask. She attempted to
gain his attention, only for him to grunt with annoyance and
snap at her. No need to be a brute, ya great blue bully! Zakaria
huffed, pulling away. I'm just trying to talk to you about
something...
What is it? Was the reply, clipped and tight. Karask was
hunkered down, not looking at his handler at all. His mind was
alive with the thoughts of the female he'd successfully won in
her run. Elask, it seemed, was at the forefront of Karask's mind
at every turn, every moment of consciousness that the wher drew
breath.
I hear that Elask is wanting to see the Whercandidates before
her, prior to the hatching. A dragon thing, that be, but she
certainly knows what she wants, eh?
And? What Elask wants, Elask wants. And so shall she get! Karask
snarled, finally turning towards Zakaria in a burst of anger.
The lass scarcely knew what to do; her partner's anger over
nothing at all, moved the normally brazen lass to pure tears of
fear and worry. She staggered back, falling to the ground and
curling up as a snarling blue snout was shoved in her face.
I wasn't saying anything about it-! She exclaimed, tears
streaming. I was just trying to ask your opinion on if I should
enlist as a potential Wherhandler for one of the hatchlings-!
Karask lost the snarl after a moment, his eyes softening. As big
as his temper was, his loyalty to Zakaria was even bigger. He
hated seeing her cry; making her cry was an even worse
experience. She'd never given him a reason to sever himself from
her, and he did treasure her deeply. He pulled away, offering a
soft huff of apology for scaring her.
You want another...? He asked, sounding surprised.
I do, yes. I think I can handle two, don't you? And it would be
one of your own offspring, which I think is a lovely idea. If
you don't mind it, anyway.
The blue wher was thoughtful for a moment, watching as Zakaria
rose to her feet once more. When he spoke again, his voice was
warm with affection.
Do it. Go. He rumbled, nudging Zakaria along. We will take on a
second, one of mine own blood! Go!
I'm going, I'm going! The lass laughed, heading off, a laugh
ringing through the air.
Upon arriving, Zakaria's breath was taken away. Each and every
egg was just... perfect. In every way. But one, the Northern
Lights egg, seemed to draw her in the strongest. She gave Elask
a polite nod, opening her mouth to speak. "Thank you for this
chance, Elask. I promise you can trust me. Oh, and Karask says
hello." She added that in with a laugh, rewarded by a mental
huff from the male within her mind.
After greeting the clutchmother, Zakaria approached the egg,
sitting down before it. She hesitated for a second, admiring the
brilliant colors that dashed across the surface of the eggshell,
then rested her hand along the topmost part and spoke.
"Hello there. I know you're alright in there, in your home of
shell and darkness. Are you cold? Can you hear me? My name is
Zakaria, I'm your sire's handler. I know it's scary, I know
you're afraid. But don't be. You will be alright, you hear me,
little one? I'm here with you. I'm here, and if you're meant to
be mine, if Elask entrusts you to me... then you will never be
alone."

Candidate Aylee
She was more nervous than she liked. Granted, she was very good
at hiding her nerves, but Aylee had made her interest in Elask's
clutch known and she knew the eggs should be getting close to
hatching. Even if there was no way to know when exactly the
clutch would hatch, many people and other candidates had been
excitedly chattering about.
She was a bit excited at the idea of seeing the new additions to
the weyr, Elask being the mother meant this clutch would be
interesting on top of that. She was excited to see it, she truly
was, but that wasn't enough to get rid of the worrying thoughts
about if she'd impress and, if so, what she would impress to.
Would there be a problem? What color would the wherlet be?
Aylee did her best to shove away the thoughts and take a deep
breath. There was every chance things could be fine, regardless
of if she was impressed or not. She had to remind herself not to
expect anything, expectations would only lead to
disappointments. Looking around, the candidate decided to try
and take a walk to soothe any remaining thoughts. Perhaps while
she is out she'll find a caterpillar or two.
While they were walking they had managed to run into Shaela, who
was apparently saying Elask wanted to hold a touching? Did whers
do that? They had been to a few touchings before with being a
dual candidate, but those were all dragons. Uncertain, Aylee
thought she might just take a step back from it and let others
test it out. The problem was she feared Elask might count her
out then. It could break whatever chance they have. 'Fine...
Sure, it should be fine. I can do it and maybe I'll get lucky.'
Aylee thought, sighing to herself as she headed off.
As soon as she reached the clutch, her gaze moved towards Elask.
"Um... Hi. It's pretty cool you are doing this... Thank you."
They spoke in their slightly uncertain tone. There were 6 eggs,
so six different possibilities for different reactions and
different wherlets to be born. Every reason she could touch an
egg that enjoys their presence.
Standing around in almost a daze, her gaze eventually rested on
the Lone Grove egg. Something about the dark color of the shell
or maybe the tree design made the egg stand out to her. While
there were other eggs that she thought she might go to, somehow
she found herself heading over to that one in particular and
resting her hand on the dark blue shell. Aylee didn't even know
what to say, but they did their best to say something that would
hopefully have meaning to the wherlet or Elask.
"Hi... I don't really know what to say, but I'm going to do my
best. I'm Aylee and hope that Elask picks a really good
candidate for you. I... I'm not the most social, admittedly but
I hope that your dam will consider me to be a possibility for
you... Sort of... being alone together I guess? Simply have
someone who knows how to enjoy the silence..."
Wherhandler Diarmid of Bronze Diarsk
'I told you Diarsk if I do get another wher and that is an if,
you are not above them. Besides, it'll be a baby and need a ton
of attention.' The handler was trying to explain to his wher.
Diarsk stubbornly believed that he'd be above this hypothetical
wherlet, though this wasn't anything new to Diarmid.
Many years ago he debated trying to gain a second wher, he had
more than enough practice with the problem child that was his
bronze wher and thought that it'd be a nice addition to his
small group of loved creatures. The problem was back in Benden,
he felt pressured to only keep Diarsk by his mother, who really
wasn't a fan of his wherhandler career anyways. Westwind was
different though. Here whers had a proper place in the Weyr and
the idea he could welcome a new wher into that happy development
was more than exciting.
Diarsk hadn't been a fan of the idea initially as to be
expected. Diarmid, getting another wher? It took a long while
for the bronze to accept that possibility. Diarmid knew there
was a lot of uncertainty still as to how Diarsk would react
based on what wher he'd impress, but that was if he could
impress a second time.
'Please, Diarsk knows better than some small wherlet. If they
join us, they have to accept that Diarsk is on top. Simply the
truth.' The bronze wher stopped a bit as if to make his point
more valid, head shaking a little. How did his handler not
understand where he was coming from? He was a fine wher and any
new wher of Diarmid's needed to prove their worth as well.
Sighing and giving up for now, Diarmid pat his head lovingly and
scratched under the bronze's chin. Maybe he could ask Shaela how
Elask was doing with the clutch as surely the wherhandler was
around here somewhere. It'd be better than arguing with a brick
wall.
That idea leads him to hear about the touching. Diarmid was
confused at first, given he thought only dragons did as such,
but he wasn't opposed to it. In fact, the idea excited him a
bit. A chance to get a look at the eggs? Maybe let Elask see he
could be a good option for one of her young? He was game for
that.
As soon as he arrived, his gaze moved to Elask and gave her as
warm of a smile as he could muster. "Don't worry, Elask, I'll be
more than careful around your clutch. I thank you for this
chance, it's a welcome surprise." He tells her, hoping the wher
won't mind that he came to investigate. The eggs were so
beautiful, all of them really. He didn't know which egg he
should go towards.
Diarmid soon enough found himself moving towards the Hearts'
Alight egg, it's heart-like markings making him smile instantly.
As gentle as he could, hand barely brushing along the top of the
egg, he hopes he won't somehow scare the wherlet inside. He
tried to keep his voice quiet for the same reason with a tone
just as soft to match.
"Well hello, little dear, I'm Diarmid. I hope you don't mind me
coming over, you just stuck out to me. A very pretty shell, I
might say, and I'm sure you will be just as amazing. No matter
where you go, I'm sure Elask will make sure the very best person
gets to take care of you. Maybe it'll be me and, well, that'll
be more than alright. You'll have the company of my little Bubba
and Diarsk. You'll be safe."
