Artefacts of the fallen

So. Damn. Noisy.
Naomi discreetly rubbed one of her temples while suppressing a
groan. She would have much preferred to say at home, or hell,
any quiet, dimly-lit place, surrounded by her books and plants.
If she closed her eyes she could almost see her little nook and
smell the different herbs hanging from the ceiling to dry,
and...
The shouts and shrieks of the other patrons shattered her
daydreaming and she begrudgingly opened her eyes and looked
around the grimy tavern with ill-disguised disgust. She wanted
nothing more than to just leave, but staying at home did not pay
for things, or rather, it did not pay for expensive things.
She did another quick scan of the crowded tavern for what felt
like the millionth time in the last fifteen minutes. Where was
that damn messenger!?

The sign was slowly rocking back and forth in the wind, one of
it's hinges broken and leaving only one side to support it.
Dominic had a frown etched on his face, contemplating on whether
he actually had to go inside or if he could simply skip it.
Glancing at the little fairy on his shoulder, her innocent eyes
following the sign as it slowly moved, he let out a long breath.
She immediatly turned her attention to him, flying up in front
of his face.
- What is it?
- Nothing. Let's just get this over with.
- Okay.
She turned and flew in a fast pace to the door, aiming for the
keyhole. She was small enough to get through that way which was
a huge convenience when..visiting estates without the residents
knowledge. Him on the other hand had to actually use the door
and knowing how carefree she was he hurried to do so before she
got herself into trouble. As he got inside the shithole of a
tavern he couldn't hold back a groan of disgust. He barely
managed to step out of the way of some brawlers while making his
way to the bar where his little friend stood next to a pint,
trying to reach the handle.
- Blue. Stay close.
She turned her head his way, nodding at him.
- Okay.
He let out another long sigh as he sat down, ordering a beer at
the same time. That messenger better not be running late or he'd
be sure to strangle him when he arrived.

When she felt the breeze of the cool night air, Naomis eyes
quickly darted to the door in hopes of it being the messenger,
but quickly returned to her mug and she tried desperately to
appear as invisible as possible. What were they doing in a
shoddy tavern like this?
She had walked in the same circles, but never interacted with
them, only heard whispered rumors. But there was no mistaking
them. Not many people had ever even seen a fae, let alone
traveled together with one. Most of the rumors were probably
exaggerated. Probably...
A light tap on her shoulder made Naomi snap out of her spiraling
thoughts and her eyes landed on a rat faced man with dirty,
matted brown hair that scowled at her.
-Don't look. Act like nothing. Meet me out back. Make sure
you're not followed.
With that he disappeared into the crowd again and Naomi grit her
teeth while staring daggers at the mug in front of her. That was
it?! That was what he had to say after showing up late? Oh how
she would have enjoyed ripping out his guts and filling it with
rags and make him prance around and...!
She forced herself to take a deep breath. She didn't have time
for this. She could plot his murder later, after the job was
done.
With a few gulps she downed the last of her cheap beer and
headed for the door. He better make it worth her while.

A familiar voice caught Blues attention and she turned to stare
straight at a young woman just as the man left to return to the
crowd. She was in no way inconspicuous but since she was so
small and with the light constantly glowing around her it could
be hard to tell what her eyes were focused on. She watched the
girl down her drink and then leave, literally skipping to her
empty mug so she could watch her more. Dom slowly placed his
drink down, staring at the amber liquid as he spoke softly.
- What?
- That was Grisla.
Dom turned and scanned the room without luck. Still he knew she
was right because she couldn't tell lies. Clicking his tongue he
put down a coin for the barkeep then casually stood.
- Blue?
The little fairy flew up and landed on his shoulder as he made
his way outside again. If that rat was trying to **** them over
he'd be sorry. Knowing how he worked he walked down the street
to get to an alley where he made a turn then quietly walked to
the back of the inn. He snuck up behind a pile of barrels seeing
the little weasel nervously twist his hands, waiting for
someone. Knowing they might be caught if Blue's glow tipped them
off he put a hand over her, making her sit down while he
listened closely.

Naomi hurried out of the tavern while trying to look like she
wasn't dying to get out of there. Walking in a circle around the
tavern, she listened for anything that would indicate that she
was being followed, but after making another lap, as well as
doubling back for a bit, she couldn't see anything suspicious.
Noone hd followed her. Good.
Rounding the corner that lead to the alley behind the tavern,
her eyes almost immediately landed on the guy. He was fidgeting
and looked like he was about to take off for just about
anything. Oh, he was nervous she wouldn't show was he? Damn
hypocrite.
His eyes looked like two black beads in the dim light as she
approached, and he nervously scanned their surroundings.
-Did anyone follow you? Did you-
-Of course not! I'm not an idiot.
She scoffed.
-So what is the job? For your sake I hope it's good.
Naomi couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, but she had
to be imagining it. There was no way anyone would be outside
this shithole at this hour voluntarily.
-Ever heard of the house of Thornwall?
-.. Yes?
-Good, good. You see... They have an estate not too far from
here... And I have it from a pretty reliable source that it
should be.. empty right now.
Naomi furrowed her brows.
-And why would I be interested in an empty house?
-Well.. It's empty of people.. But not empty of valuables.
He nervously looked around before leaning in closer.
-My source tells me they are keeping more than just a few pieces
of jewellery there that should be worth a pretty penny... if you
bring it to me, that is.

Dominic tried to lean in closer to hear the details better.
Because of his choice of position he couldn't look who the woman
was without them spotting him and unfortunately he couldn't pick
up the last bit but he'd heard enough. The Thornwalls had more
than enough to support the entire city. If the security was down
he'd be more than happy to..remove some of the load from their
chambers. But that little sh*t who tried to pull one over on
them? He wouldn't let it slide if he wanted any future intell
anywhere. Gritting his teeth he let go of Blue who immediately
flew out, like always, then followed quietly.
- I'm pretty sure a place like the Thornwall residence falls
under OUR jurisdiction, Grisla.
The little man squealed in surprise, spinning around quickly.
- D-d-d-d-dom! H-hey..I-I-I w-wa..
- Shut up.
- Okei.
Dominic turned his attention to the young woman to tell her to
beat it, hesitating slightly as his eyes scanned her head to
toe. Blue smirked as she noticed her friends curiosity but let
her mouth fall agape as he told her to get lost.
- This job is ours. Just forget you ever heard about it.
Dominic turned his glare back to Grisla, grabbing his collar.
- About that job..
Blue huffed, rolling her eyes then turned back to the girl. She
sure was pretty, all young, vibrant and deadly. Clearly Dom
thought she was pretty too so maybe if she knew a bit about
him..
- I'm Blue and this is Dominic Pendragon. He's 24 years old,
single and loo-
- Blue!
Dominic sighed heavily as the fairy just flew closer to the
woman her voice getting louder in case she'd have to drown him
out.
- His measurements are 188, 67, 38, 2
- NO!
- 20!
- Blue, shut it!
- 13!
Dominic made a quick move, grabbing for Blue but she flew out of
his reach while he fumed at her, Grisla completely forgotten.
- Why would you tell her that?!
- Relax, she'll only care about the last two ones.
Dominic put both hands over his face with a tired groan, his
ears clearly burning from embarrassment.

Of course the deal had been too good to be true! Naomi wanted to
slam her head into a wall and scream out her frustration. She
should have been using her brain for once in her life, and
walked away the minute the slime had mentioned the Thornwalls.
Instead, she could feel her body tense, unable to move, when she
heard a mans voice from the shadows. Shit.
She should have gotten out of there while they were busy, but a
small voice in the back of her head made her stay, pointing out
that she might still be able to get a cut of the loot.
But as she tried to get a word in, her attempts were cut short
by the blurry blue light, who made it impossible to get a word
in. That made her actually shut her mouth for a second and just
stare at them, slowly looking from one to the other, giving the
blue light a wierd look as she started rattling off numbers,
their meaning completely lost on her.
The same small voice perked up, pointing out that the guy was
much more handsome than the rumours gave him credit for.
She shook her head to get back to her senses. She had to come up
with something, she couldn't just hand them a present like that.
-I don't think I'll care about anything unless it shines and-
She turned her attention to the man whose name was Dominic
according to.. Blue...
- I also need coins. Include me or.. Or I will tell the guards!
She cocked her hip as she crossed her arms, trying to look more
intimidating.

Grisla clearly took advantage of the distraction and scurried
away while Blue rambled on, disappearing in an alley while he
had the chance. Clearly not the type to stick around and find
out how pissed Dominic would be at his little betrayal.
Dominic rubbed his face hard before dropping his hands, turning
to the young woman. Gritting his teeth he glared at her. Who was
she anyway? A woman with her looks would have no problem getting
coins a lot easier than by breaking into houses. Then again she
appeared to have quite the attitude. Maybe that was her problem.
Stepping closer he looked down at her with the hardest glare he
could muster.
- Are you threatening me, little one?
Usually that would do the trick since he was quite tall but Blue
obviously had other plans. Flying closer, her glow illuminating
the pretty girls face.
- You should kiss her.
Every ounce of threat left Dom's face, replaced by shock as he
straightened up and slowly turned to Blue who giggled.
- Come on! Let's bring her along!
- No.
- She might come in handy.
Dominic narrowed his eyes at Blue, thinking for a moment then
turned to the young woman again.
- What's your name?
- Oh! I bet it's pretty since she is! Do you think-
- Blue! Stop talking.
She giggled again before landing on Dom's shoulder, her glow
getting faint enough for her to get fully visible.
