       Fangs and Canines
By: Mirenderim Date: November 29, 2023, 5:50 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The first snow of the winter was just starting to fall as alpha
Clark hushed everyone present at the yearly alpha meeting. Once
a year all alphas would come together to discuss borders,
alliances and any disputes that might cause trouble for more
than the two packs arguing. Xander had been attending the
meeting every year since he turned twenty and the title of alpha
had been passed on to him from his father. What was new this
year was that his father didn't accompany him like he usually
did, as he had caught a cold, and instead he'd dragged along his
beta. Being the only lycan in the room everyone tended to avoid
them, especially since both Xander and his beta were rumored to
have no mercy when it came to werewolves from other packs. They
had their allies, of course, but no one tended to actually ask
for their assistance fearing both the alphas lycan and the betas
       massive wolf.
Alpha clark cleared his throat as the room fell silent before
welcoming them all to this years meeting. After a short breefing
a couple smaller disputes were brought up before a couple border
linemoves were discussed. Xander remained silent in the back of
the room, bored out of his mind. He never cared for any of the
dumb politics of werewolf borders as long as his own borders
weren't challenged. Unlike normal werewolves he couldn't
actually feel or communicate with his beast, instead his
emotiones were a lot more intense and primal and right now he
was growing impatient. He tried his best not to show it but
every now and then when the wolves were yapping at each other he
felt his eyes started to glow their distinct golden like they
always did when his beast surfaced, trying to push it down
before his sclera turned black then folded the strong arms over
his chest. This was going to take a while and all he wanted to
do was go back to the hotel and get dinner.

Luca was sat in his wolf form next to his Alpha in the back of
the room, his gray eyes dutifully observing the others in the
room, looking for threats. His wolf was whining that they could
have been napping on the couch at the pack house instead of just
sitting there, doing nothing, and he reluctantly had to agree.
But, he reminded himself, it was important that they were
present. It was an important meeting to keep the peace and if
they, or at least Xander, did not attend, it would crumble into
       chaos.
Xander looked brooding and unapproachable as always and was
probably bored out of his skull by the petty squabble. His wolf
reached out to his Alpha through the mindlink and the familiar,
almost crushing, aura from his Alpha confirmed it. No wonder
everyone avoided them more than usual.
"Yo boss, how much longer is this going to take? I could really
go for a burger right now, how about you?"

Xander answered his beta with a low growl, making every wolf but
Luca freeze and bear their necks in submission. Surpressing a
sigh he waved his hand at the gathered alphas to make them get
back to their squabbling. Through the mindlink he tried his best
to keep his aura low when he answered.
"Not long now. None of them have any balls to speak of. Shut up
so I can hear what the idiots decide."
He forced the mindlink close, knowing fully well that Luca might
continue to complain if he didn't. That's what Xander would have
done and Luca unfortunately wasn't too unlike himself. He didn't
even bother to correct him for the billionth time since he
figured his stubborn beta enjoyed ticking him off too much.
Sadly, the burger sounded damn good right about now too.
Especially since the alphas were getting all heated again. He
let them argue for about five more minutes until he shifted his
weight slightly. To his amusement they suddenly weren't so
adamant about keeping everything they had been arguing about for
five minutes when he did and it all resolved quite fast after
that. Spinless alphas. Ironically his beta would probably manage
to push them all down with just beta energy despite them all
being alphas if he just got irritated enough, a nice little
sideeffect of being the beta of a lycan.
A couple more things were on the agenda before the meeting was
officially adjourned. As they all prepared to leave, alpha Clark
       got a grim look.
       - Before you all leave, I need to give you alla warning. Lately
some of our packs have been noticing an increase in vamplings.
Why the sudden increase in turning vampires have started to
occure we have no idea. A couple more than normal we could
handle, but it's beginning to reach the levels where even the
vampire clans are getting uncomfortable. The new vamplings don't
belong with any clans and we haven't been able to find out which
rogue vampires are turning them all, or for what purpose. Keep
your eyes and noses up, alphas. They may be vamplings without
full control of their powers but that doesn't mean they aren't
       dangerous.
With those words he left the room and the wolves started pooling
out of there. Xander raised an eyebrow, looking down at Luca.
       - That's interesting. Let's go get a couple burgers.

Luca was about to give a snarky remark when Xander closed the
link. He glared at his Alpha as he let out a low huff at the
answer before he reluctantly laid down to show that he gave up.
He was used to the overwhelming aura of his Alpha, but he really
cranked it to 11 when they were outside their territory, despite
       his efforts to surpress it.
The arguments seemed to drag on forever and mostly go in circles
and Luca was really starting to miss the pack house couch when
the same three blocks were being debated over for the third
time, because some or another's great great grandfather had once
lived here or there and that's why they had the ultimate right
to it, when Xander seemed to have had enough of the petty
squabble. It was quite funny to watch all the alphas in the room
scramble to regain their composure when Xander so much as waved
a finger. He couldn't complain though, it was damn efficient if
       nothing else.
Finally the meeting ended and he stood up and shook out his fur
before trotting after his Alpha. He shook his head at the
       mention of Clarks last words.
"The scouts have reported sightings of vamplings at the edges of
our southern borders, but nothing out of the ordinary and
nothing we cant handle. But I suppose the other packs wouldn't
dare to exaggerate such a serious issue, would they?"
His belly rumbled as soon as Xander mentioned the burgers and
the tip of his tail started wagging at the thought, the threath
of vamplings pushed to the side for more important matters.
"Do you think they'll let me in like this? I know some places
are but I don't want to have to put on pants."

Xander ignored Luca until they were in the backseat of their
car, being taken back tot he hotel by their driver.
       - You keep forgetting we're in human territory, not packlands.
If you want a burger you'll have to put on pants. Otherwise I'm
happy to order some scooby snacks for you while I go get a
       burger for myself.
Letting Luca decide what he'd prefer he watched the city go by
the carwindow until they pulled up to the hotel. Even humans had
a tendency to back away from him, probably because he was 6'4
with a gigantic wolf walking off leash next to him. Not giving
any of them even as much as a glance he got into the elevator
and pressed the button for the penthouse, letting the doors
close before giving Luca a curious look.
       - Decided yet?
He put his hands in his pockets as the elevator stopped and let
them out in the penthouse where two more of his pack warriors
were waiting, making sure no one broke into it while Xander and
Luca was gone. Xander was always uneasy being away form the
packhouse and even though the vampires weren't a match for him
he didn't like how often his border patrol had to deal with them
lately, especially the unpredictable vamplings. Both wolves
lowered their eyes and bared their necks in respect as they
greeted them, then left the room when Xander waved them off.

Luca snorted and his wolf whined at the news of forced pants. He
grumbled as he got his butt into a comfortable position in the
       backseat.
"Why did they have to have the meeting in a human territory?
It's not like it's considered neutral ground either, and they
have far worse service here. I have impeccable table manners...!
He continued to grumble until they reached the penthouse, to
hungry and to occupied with the perceived injustice of having to
wear pants, to notice the uncomfortable looking people they
       passed on the way.
       " Fine! I'll go get pants! It'll only take a minute! "
He trotted off to his room and emerged a few minutes later
dressed in a black t-shirt and cargo pants with his favourite
pair of combat boots. His black hair was a mess despite his
attempts to tame it. Even though it was the beginning of winter
he didn't plan on bringing a coat, his werewolf blood being more
than capable of handling the cold. He stepped back into the
       elevator when Xander was done.
-So where do you want to go Boss? Oh, what about that little
diner a block away from here? It smelled delicious when we went
       past it earlier.

Xander frowned, looking over at Luca for a moment before
       shrugging.
       - It smelled exactly like every other burger place around and
I'm honestly surprised you enjoyed that. I thought you'd prefer
a proper steakhouse over a sloppy joe diner.
The elevator stopped at the bottom floor, letting them out and
Xander spared no time in getting to the front doors.
       - Might as well walk since it's so close.
The diner was bustling with activity. Families in almost every
booth chatting about the day while a couple stray humans were
scattered along the bar. In the far back corner a figure was
hunched over, leaning her head on her palm with a frustrated
sigh. She'd been so close to tracking down Elsas last vampling
but when she almost ran into a couple alpha werewolves she'd had
to retreat to the diner. It was just her luck that the yearly
alpha meeting was in this specific city and this specific
weekend. She was skilled, this was true, but she wouldn't stand
a chance against an alpha, let alone 45.

       Luca raised an eyebrow.
-And you think that humans can cook a steak to werewolf
       perfection?
He let out a condescending snort.
-No thank you, I don't want to eat a piece of lightly salted
rubber tonight. And, you'll be surprised, it's often these
little mom-'n-pop-shops that are the best!
He had to surpress a groan as the sweet smell of grilled meat
mixed with melted cheese, fried onions, and greasy fries hit his
nose as they entered the small diner.
       - Tell me that this is not the smell of heaven?
Selena was sat balled up in a bathroom stall of some greasy
little restaurant, trying to force down the panic and hunger
that was tying her stomach into knots. She had almost attacked a
child. A child! She could feel hot tears burning behind her
eyelids. She had thought that she was getting better at this
vampire thing but apparently not! A fucking child! Selena tried
to focus on something, anything, but the noises of the
restaurant were not helping, and she could almost hear people's
heartbeats through the thin walls, making her starving body
scream. She needed to leave this place. She needed to find Elsa
to ask for some animal blood before she went feral and attacked
       someone.
The problem was the packed restaurant. Since when was this place
so popular anyway? It was usually almost empty at this time of
night. And the place reeked of dog. Damn werewolves, why had
there been such an increase with these damn fleabags lately? Was
there a turf war happening? Mother have mercy, then she would be
in so much trouble and they would probably kick up a huge fuss
about her being there. One or two was no big deal, then they
would usually just growl and glare at her, those cowards, but a
packed restaurant? No way. Especially if they were high on some
       fighting spirit.
Selena sighed and, against her better judgement, leaned her head
back against the wall. She would need a shower anyway. She would
need a shower and then she would have to find Elsa.

Xander rolled his eyes at his beta. He knew there could be some
hidden gems in some diners but this one seriously didn't smell
any different than most other low budget, grease dripping places
Luca usually scrunched up his nose at. He took a deep breath,
just to come to terms with the low level his next meal would
have, but froze when something he couldn't quite place entered
his nose. Actually two things. The first was the vampire in the
back of the diner which was what his eyes first snapped to, his
aura seeping out making the vampire flinch. The second one was
like nothing he'd ever smelled before. Taking another wiff his
eyes snapped to the other side of the diner where a woman just
entered the bathroom. Before he could stop himself he let out a
low growl, taking a step forward. Realizing his beast was
surfacing he had to focus hard to get it back under control.
Intense emotions ran though his body making it hard to stay
still, the will to burst through the doors of the women's
       bathroom almost overpowering.
Seeing the blasted mutts enter the diner, Jezzabel had tried to
shrink back in order to go undetected but that clearly wouldn't
work when she felt the aura seep from the bigger one. A lycan!
What little blood she had in her body drained from her face as
she started to panic. She had to get out of there fast or she'd
be dead in less than a minute. Had they followed her there? She
didn't think so but she couldn't be too sure. She knew there
were plenty of alphas in town but what was a lycan doing there?
Unless..She didn't dare finish the thought. Could she really be
so unlucky as to run into the alpha of Blue Moon? She started
fidgeting with her hands, trying to get some of her panicked
energy out while going over her options. She could go through
the windows but that would be suspicious. The door was a no go
with the two massive tanks blocking it. If she stayed they might
decide to corner her. Only one option left. It wasn't perfect
but werewolves tended not to want to show themselves in public
as not to scare people so holding on to hope that the notorious
alpha and his equally terrifying beta would prefer to kill in
silence away from prying eyes she stood. Trying to act natural
she sauntered over towards the bathroom, her long legs feeling
like jelly as she had to pass the wolves to get there. She
cursed her stupid self for dressing up in tight black leather
pants and kneehigh boots with both a plateau and a stiletto high
enough to give her a good six inches extra length as she wasn't
sure she had the balance to even stand on flat ground at the
moment. The black waist trainer felt strangely tight all of a
sudden, which was ridicilous since she didn't need to breathe.
Goosebumps were traveling up her back from the small part of her
skin that was exposed on her lower back where the high, black,
sleek ponytail stroked against it when her hips moved. In hear
head she kept repeating to herself to act natural although all
her senses screamed at her to run the other way the closer she
got. I would be a tight fit between the wolves and the counter
but she had to get past them. Trying her hardest to avoid
eyecontact, she finally had to squeeze by. As she did she
accidentally looked up, her pale blue eyes meeting the beta's.
Damn it! She quickly tore her eyes from him, her steps suddenly
getting faster as she got closer to the bathroom. He was
gorgeous! Well, for a wolf, which was a shame. Had he been human
she'd probably spend the whole night drooling over him,
imagining all the ways he'd make her scream his name. Too bad it
was a wolf. There was not a snowball's chance in hell she'd ever
get involved with that kind creature. She'd rather be chained to
a stone and dropped at the bottom of the ocean for a millennia.
Why would the moon goddess waste her talent on a wolf anyway? If
she HAD to make mouthwatering eyecandy then make them vampires,
goddamnit! She closed and opened her fists, stretching her
fingers to try and get some of her tension out of her body. This
was honestly the dumbest thing she'd ever thought about. Wolves
weren't hot, end of discussion! Especially not when their aura
was strong enough to make her knees buckle by merely passing
them. Lycan's were a whoole breed of their own but Jesus Christ
that beta was more terrifying than every other alpha she'd ever
met. But on a good note, she had actually passed both the wolf
and the lycan and neither had ripped her to pieces yet.

A vampire? Luca had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't
just a wierd smelling human, while his Alpha had noticed the
vampire almost before they had even stepped through the door,
indicated by the sudden increase of his aura. It was not unusual
per se to find them in human establishments, though they did
prefer to travel in groups, but it could have to do with the
increase in reported new vamplings that the other Alpha had
mentioned. The clans probably wanted to keep an eye on the
situation as well and this one was probably just a scout for one
of the many vampire clans, judging by her being alone.
But something was off. Xander wouldn't make such a fuss about a
single vampire, so something else must have caught his
       attention.
Luca let out a rumbling growl from deep within his chest and
increased his own aura to try to indicate to Xander that he
might want to dial it back, just a notch, and make him focus on
him instead of whatever had him so worked up. Glancing around
the diner, all of the werewolves present were on the brink of
peeing on the floor to show their submission and the humans were
       all looking terrified.
Great. Xander's aura was no joke, he was barely able to resist
it himself, but unless there was a royal vampire or another
hostile lycan, his beast would need to chill out one way or the
other, and Luca was the most resistant punching bag around.
The vampire made the smart decision to try and leave as quickly
and quietly as possible, good choice, she would not have made it
far if she had tried to pick a fight with Xander. She passed
them on her way to leave, and all it took was one whiff of her
perfume for his wolf to go nuts over it. It had been intrigued
by the scent before but now it started going ballistic, yapping
about a mate. He could agree that she smelled lovely and had a
lovely set of curves, but she was a vampire. There was also the
fact that his boss was moments away from shifting and about to
tear the place to shreds over said vampire. There was absolutely
no need nor time to lose it over a hot looking vampire.
