A bloody necklace

Dull, so dull. The only thing to see were the gray walls and the
equally gray clouds outside. Michael rounded a corner and had
thereby completed yet another lap around the monastery in hopes
of finding at least a sliver of entertainment. He had been there
for over a month and he had been bored out of his skull by day
three. He had only taken the job because he had been desperate
and it had seemed like an easy enough gig. How hard could it be
to find something scandalous on the guy running the place, maybe
some dirt on some of his associates, and grab a shiny trinket or
two on the way out? Extremely it seemd, since the thing to kill
him would not be a sword, but boredom. The only thing the old
goat seemd to enjoy doing was reading, or lazily walk around in
the garden a few times a day, not much of a scandal unless one
counted the time the old man had cut a corner and walked over
the grass instead of the stone paved pathway. Oh the kingdom
would be in uproar if they were to find out.
Michael huffed and started on a new lap, the only thing he could
think of doing as to not doing something rash that could blow
his cover. No wonder no one else had been interested in this
job. Sure it came with the benefit of having a roof over your
head, a bed to sleep in, and two meals a day, but it came with
the downside of being watched 24/7 and either being forced to do
backbreaking work on one of the many fields owned by the
monastery, or some mind numbing task inside the monastery
instead. Like praying. Or cleaning. Or both. Michael could not
believe that anyone would be mad enough to voluntarily subject
oneself to that sort of torture, praying and cleaning at ungodly
hours for the rest of their lives. Yet here he was, surrounded
by people who chose to be there and acted like it was a gift
from the Gods. He sincerely hoped the old fart would shack up
with someone soon or at least do anything, anything, that was
not reading or walking so he would have at least something worth
reporting before his brain melted from the lack of stimuli.

Looking up at the grey walls of the monestary, Syrena took a
deep breath and sqared her shoulders. The stupid robe she wore
to appear like one of the dumb nuns was itchy and she hated
covering up her long raven hair. When she got ordered to go to
the monestary she'd first objected firecly on account of the
mission being an absolute bore, but after hours of nagging from
her guild master she finally caved and figured she might as well
go check it out. The pay was shit and she was not looking
forward to doing any of the annoying chores but it came with the
job so in order to blend in she plastered on a serene face and
strolled through the gate, bowing to everyone she met. It didn't
take her long to find her way to the main building to find
either the abbot, abbess or the reverend mother. She hadn't
bothered to research enough to find out which one was in charge
of this specific monestary since all she cared about was getting
close to the main jerk who currently recided there. As she
walked she glanced around at all the munks ans nuns doing
different kinds of labour and thanked her lucky star she
wouldn't have to suffer like they did, barely managing to keep
her face straight from relief.

Michael was still minding his own business when the bell rang
for one of the many prayer hours that the poor sods that lived
there had to endure. Not feeling particularly devoted that day,
like most of the days, he decided to skip the whole thing and
sneak into the house of the old goat instead. Maybe today would
be the day he found a letter from his secret mistress, telling
him in detail about their latest escapades and that she was
pregnant with his second child. At last, his torment would be
over and he could return to his normal work of robbing and
killing stuck up merchants with to much faith in their own
selves. Michael snorted at his own fantasy, yeah right. Like
that was ever bound to happen in the nearest future with the
squeaky clean appearance of the old goat.
Making sure that he was not seen, like he ever would have been,
all of the idiots either looked down in the dirt to "be humble
in front of the Gods" or some other bullsh*t excuse the
authorities had come up with, or they were too occupied with
themselves to notice. He steered towards the house at the back
of the monastery and slipped around back to a little shed that
leand against the wall of the house and used it to get up to the
second story window. The monks robe that he wore made the climb
difficult and he cursed more than once when he almost fell due
to it making it difficult to move around. Once Michael had made
it inside, he looked around the stuffy little study that he was
currently in. Nothing much had changed since he had been there a
couple of days ago, some new papers were scattered around and a
book had been moved but other than that everything seemed the
same. He sighed and started rummaging through the papers, hoping
to find something other than letters from other monasteries,
asking about the best way to raise sheep.

The second Syrena entered the main building she regretted the
decision since some bell started ringning, bringing in all munks
and nuns to do some prayer or something. For a second she
panicked until she managed to slide out without anyonr batting
an eye. There was no way she'd get stuck in some ceremony unless
it was absolutely necessary. With quick steps she walked further
around the building, noticing a fancy house with a shed leaning
against it.
- Bet this is where mr.important lives..
After making sure the coast was clear she knocked on the front
door while listening intently. Since no sound was hears she
glanced around one last time before quickly sneaking inside. The
house was boring, filled with bookshelves and small tables with
old ugly candelabras and other rubbish that wasn't worth
anything. She sneaked around from room to room looking for a
study or something where he might keep his dirty secrets when
she heard a floorboard move above her.

Michael froze when he heard the knock at the door. Sh*t! Weren't
everyone supposed to be praying at this hour? Who could possibly
have any business here at this moment?! He slowly crept towards
the door to the study, hoping whoever it was would go away when
no one came to open the door. He cursed when he heard the front
door open and soft footsteps enter the hallway. Panicked, he
looked around for a place to hide. He had no interest in
explaining to some self-important monk or babbling servant what
he was doing, rummaging around the old goat's study. He could
hear, whoever it was, moving around downstairs and it would be
just a matter of minutes before they decided to search the
second floor as well. He had to make a decision, he could stay
in the crammed room and most certainly be caught, or he could go
and try to find a hiding spot somewhere else.
Michael exited the study as quietly as he could and made a dash
for what looked to be a bedroom to his left. Stopping briefly,
he examined the room and the large canopy bed in front of him,
before gritting his teeth and crawling underneath it. That old
assh*ole slept like a damn princess while he and the others had
do make due with straw piles on the floor?! At least at the
guild, those with the large and soft beds had worked hard and
stolen enough money to buy their bed. And even if you could not
afford your own bed, the guild would at least offer you a
hammock for a few nights, which was leaps and bounds better than
a cold stone floor. He had to bite his tongue as not to curse
aloud when he heard the creaking of the stairs. hopefully they
would leave soon.

Syrena whipped out a small pocketknife, just in case, before
ascending the stairs slowly, listening hard for any sounds at
all. She stalked slowly through the hall and glanced inside the
study she'd been looking for downstairs but since it was empty
she continued down the hall until she gently opened a door
leading to a lavish bedroom. She scowled at the luxury and the
sight of the massive bed, cursing the greedy bastard for his
ways while her eyes scanned the room. She knew someone was up
here, but wasn't sure who or where. Adjuating the grip on the
knife she eased inside the room while whisper screaming angrily.
- I swear, Chris, if that's you I'll rip your throat out for
scaring me. Come out, already! I have no idea how long that
praything is going to last and I sure as hell don't want to get
caught in the geezers bedroom with you on my first day!
She glanced out in the hallway to make sure no one had entered
downstairs before hurrying over to the closet and pulling it
open to check inside.

Michel tried to muffle his breathing as to not draw attention to
himself. Hopefully the person was simply lost, or new, or not
aware what the bell ringing meant and would be on their merry
way soon. Oh, who was he kidding, the person was obviously aware
of what the bell meant and that the whole complex would be
deserted at this hour. He watched the person cautiously enter
the room, only being able to see a pair of small feet and the
hem of the robe the person was wearing. The robe however was, in
contrast to his own mud brown thing, white. White like... a
nun's robe.. What in the world was a nun doing here?! Wait, was
this the scandal he had been waiting for? Was this his ticket
out of here?! Was she here to wait for the old fart for some
less than righteous activities? The hope that was ignited was as
quickly extinguished when the woman spoke. No nun spoke like
that... Was she another infiltrator? He cursed under his breath,
had the guild master deemed Michael to be too slow and sent
someone else to finish the job? Was he going to have to split
the already meager pay with not just one, but maybe two others?!
This was bullsh*t!
- Hey, you!
He could see that he had startled her by the way she whipped
around, probably ready to stab anything in sight.
-Idiot, over here!
He popped his head out from under the bed. His previously unruly
copper brown hair was now gray with dust and his striking blue
eyes had a hostile glint as he stared at her.
-What the f*ck are you doing here?! This was my assignment!

Syrena didn't expect Chris to be hiding under the bed and she
sure as hell didn't expect anyone else to be hiding there
either. Her greenblue eyes fixed on the strangers for a few
seconds until his words sunk in and she scowled.
- The f*ck do you mean by that? Who the hell are you?!
She crossed her arms over her chest while glaring daggers at
him. Her guildmaster hadn't mentioned anything about any idiots
hiding in the old man's bedroom. She had no interest in sharing
her assignment and Chris was probably where she had promised to
stay since the idiot under the bed clearly wasn't her. Still,
the stranger peeked her interest for some reason.

Michael glared up at the unknown woman. Who the hell did she
think she was?
-Hey I asked you first, dipstick!
He crawled out from under the bed and dusted himself off while
glaring at the stranger.
-You can fu*k right off to wherever you came from and on your
way over there, tell Zargo that I have got this under control,
okay? I don't need some.. some.. assistant! I'm capable of
finding some dirt on the old goat by myself. This is my
assignment, so if you have found anything, hand it over, it's my
dirt!
He huffed and crossed his arms over his chest while giving her a
glowering, hoping to be able to at least intimidate her enough
to give up any information she might have come across because he
had found next to nothing worth reporting.

Syrena stepped closer, fury evident on her face.
- I don't know what your deal is, shithead, but I don't know
anyone named Zargo. The master of Black Ocean is named Farkor
and he sent me to deal with the job since it's been on the board
for five fucking months!
She snorted and tried her best not to mutter any bad things
under her breath. Who the hell did this guy think he was? There
had been no update on anyone completing the quest for the past
month despite there being rumors it had been accepted so either
he was completely incapable or he wasn't from a guild, which
seemed unlikely.
- I literally got here like five minutes ago so obviously I
haven't found anything yet and there is no way I would ever team
up with a jerk like you and I would most certainly NEVER be an
assistant to anyone but the master, got that you imbecile?
