       MICROSOFT WINDOWS 8 READYING FOR 2012 RELEASE?

       Recently, a Dell roadmap was leaked and within it, there were
       some gems as to what the company is planning on doing with
       portable devices. One of the items on the list was a Windows 8
       tablet computer that that was due out in early 2012.
       A 2012 release date for Microsoft Windows 8 makes it just over 2
       years since the release of Microsoft’s current OS, Windows 7
       which came out in the fall 2009. If the timelines were to remain
       true, it would appear that Microsoft is on a very fast schedule
       here. Windows 7 required three years to develop/test and that OS
       version could really be considered a minor upgrade from Vista.
       Windows 8 is a whole new ball of wax and as it is a major change
       that will require considerable more time to build and test. In
       fact, Windows 8 will come in two different versions. There is
       “system on a chip” architectures from ARM and Intel. With this
       in mind, the reason for a January 2012 date on the timeline
       could very well be that this is a proposed announcement date as
       opposed to an actual release date.
       January is when the Consumer Electronics Show takes place and
       Dell may be interested in getting a jump on the competition by
       showcasing a prototype Windows 8 tablet in January 2012. As
       we’ve seen in past CES events, prototypes are often brought to
       the table during these events, but the launch date is usually
       not for several months down the road. In fact, we may not see a
       Windows 8 Dell tablet until the holiday season of 2012.
       If this was the case, it would not be unusual. Windows Vista
       made an appearance at the January CES 2006, but manufacturers
       didn’t get their hands on it until November 2006, while retail
       customers themselves had to wait until January 2007.
