       The T.P.I. system was robust and flexible at the same time -
       something fuel injection systems 30 years later are still
       struggling to achieve. This was in part due to the early system
       using a mass airflow (MAF) sensor while the later system relied
       on a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. The MAF system
       were significantly more flexible than the MAP systems, but both
       configurations could be customized by at-home-tuners with
       minimal tools.
