Ranger Crowley Moore
There is a forgotten tale that was being told in the wastelands.
A diary of a man called Crowley Moore. Many people have came
across the diary, but none cared what it was. A scavenger atlast
saw it, thinking what it was. He opened it. The first three
pages of the book were stained with blood, and it was impossible
to read. At the 4th page, it wrote "Crowley Moore".
According to the tale, his true name was not Crowley Moore.
Instead, it was Kaz. Kaz Miller. He was born to an NCR Veteran
Ranger. His father was mostly out on duty, so he was left with
his mother. He soon made friends and became social. He admired
his father and told the stories of his father in battles to
other kids. One day, he dreamed of being like his father. He
dreamed of serving NCR. But his age would not allow him. When
his father was back home, he always wanted to train with him.
His father mostly smiled and gave him some small lessons on
firing a gun. Kaz quickly learnt this, and he could clean and
fire a gun after a few months.
As days passed, Kaz became older. His father went to less
missions due to his age. This made him train Kaz more, though.
Kaz thought about this as an advantage to prove himself that he
could serve the NCR. So one time, he took the Seqoia his father
had, and went out of the outpost, trying to find some Caesar's
Legion. He was stupid though, as it ended up him being chased by
some nightstalkers. He had shot two of them, but there was still
a pack. When he reached the outpost, the NCR took a small time
to finish the pack. His father came, in his Black Armour. He
crouched, looking Kaz in his eyes. He hugged him tightly and got
up, shooting a nightstalker that was trying to charge them.
After this incident, Kaz became more careful. He did not venture
out of the outpost without his fathers permission, and sometimes
he just sat down and watched the NCR soldiers. He thought he
could learn some useful things from them. One day, a Veteran
Ranger came inside the outpost. The NCR quickly welcomed him,
showing him respect. He took off his helmet, and it was the
thing they call a ghoul. The NCR were surprised, Kaz aswell with
the rest of the NCR. His father quickly went out of the tent and
welcomed the other Ranger. They quickly shook hands and started
talking about their lives. Kaz quickly became friends with the
ghoul, learning his name was Crowley Moore.
After he met Crowley, he would come and pick up Kaz, and they
would go both hunting if Crowley was not busy. Sometimes his
father joined in aswell. This made Kaz feel like one of the
Veteran Rangers, he also proudly told this to other kids.
Crowley was a friendly ghoul. He cared for Kaz like his father.
Kaz knew his father and Crowley were close friends and
participated together in many battles. They were both respected
in the NCR. They mostly came with a bag full of meat. His mother
looked at Kaz like his father, she knew one day Kaz would be
like his father. Kaz trusted himself, going with Crowley and/or
his father when the opportunity came.
One day, on a hunt with Crowley, something bad happened. Kaz and
Crowley came to a barrage of rocks, following the trails of a
brahmin. As they started walking, a war chant was heard. After
that, a group of Legionnaries rushed out of their covers,
raining fire. Crowley and Kaz were taken by surprise. Crowley
quickly grabbed Kaz and shoved him into a rock, following him
after. Crowley looked at Kaz, trying to comfort him. The sounds
of the bullets hitting the rocks were heard. Crowley reached his
belt and grabbed a grenade, throwing it. A loud sound could be
heard, and Kaz was deaf for a few seconds. But soon, he started
hearing the gunshots again. Then, he saw a Legionary just a few
steps infront.
And then it was all black.
When he woke up, he could not see anything. It was all black.
And it smelled like corpses.. Kaz quickly put his mind into
place, noticing the dead bodies around him. He quickly tried to
scream, but the bodies didnt let him. He shoved the corpses,
trying to find a way out. After a few minutes, he saw a light.
He shoved to it, and got out of the corpses, looking at the
radioactive sky. He crawled his way out of the corpses onto the
wasteland. He looked around, his clothes all bloody. He looked
to his back, noticing all the corpses. They must have thought
that he was dead and throwed him in here. He had no idea where
Crowley was though. He checked his body, there wasnt a serious
wound. He got up, searching for Crowley.
His question was answered a few minutes later. He saw a ghoul, a
ghoul that looked like Crowley. But he was not in the corpse
area. He was out on the wastelands, lying. He quickly walked to
the ghoul and looked at him. It was Crowley. He shook the body.
The reaction was the head of the ghoul turning, looking at Kaz.
His armour was still on. He quickly checked the body, there was
a gunshot right in the chest and a machete wound in the back.
And they looked very bad. Crowley patted him on the shoulder,
taking out his seqoia. He reached for his neck and ripped his
dogtag aswell. He gave them to Kaz, and started telling him.
Soon, Kaz had learnt the whole thing.
The legionary Kaz saw made Crowley shoot him. While he was shot,
another Legionary came, knocking out Kaz with the butt of his
rifle. Crowley looked at the legionary and shot him too, but he
felt something hitting him in the back of the neck. As he
turned, he saw a legionary with a machete. The machete was
bloody. As he felt the pain on his neck, a legionary came,
shooting him. The bullet came to his chest and he falled
backwards, soon falling unconcious. They carried them both to
the corpse area, throwing them inside. Crowley crawled out of
the corpse area as Kaz did, and just stayed at the place he was
at, waiting.
Soon after, he coughed, blood coming out of his mouth. And he
gave his last breath, staring into Kaz's eyes. Kaz quickly took
the dogtag and Seqoia, putting the dogtag into his pocket and
the Seqoia into his gun holster, though it didnt fit very well,
Kaz forced it in. He took the armor off Crowley and fitted it
into a huge survival backpack he found on a corpse. He had no
idea where he was, so he ran away, fast as he can, away from the
Legion camp. He stayed in some caves and some abandoned
buildings, desperatly trying to find his outpost. He came to a
town atlast, asking the outpost. They showed him the way. He
walked to the outpost, the NCR quickly asking him what happened.
He told everything and went to home.
But there was none. He went out and asked some NCR soldiers. His
mother died 2 days ago. Kaz was overwhelmed with both anger and
sadness. But where was his father? The same soldier told him his
father had went out to a mission and was never found. So Kaz
took Crowley's Seqoia and went out, trying to find his father.
He was not allowed to venture out of the outpost after the
incident, but his father needed help. A few days later, he found
his father, his armour painted in the colors of the Legion. It
had a flag on the armour, and was sprayed with 'DEATH TO NCR'
'KILL THE DOGS!' sort of things. Kaz was overwhlemed with both
anger and sadness a second time, quickly returning to the
outpost.
After these event, Kaz had nothing to live more for. He thought
about suiciding, ending his life. But the training he had
stopped him. He kept on training with his skills. He walked into
a recruitment center and filled a recruitment paper, sending it
in. Soon, he was accepted into the NCR. It was time to follow
his father in his footsteps. After everything that had happened,
being a recruit in the NCR made him feel happy. He soon was
promoted to Private because of his skills. The training had paid
off. Now that he was a Private, he had another target, to become
a corporal, or even sergeant. And this opportunity would come a
weeks later..
The NCR received the news that a slave caravan would pass by.
They quickly took action, setting up an ambush. The plan
succeeded and Kaz flanked two of the slavers, taking their guns
and making them surrender. As they returned to the base, he felt
proud of his work. He was promoted to PFC. A little
disappointed, Kaz still did his duty. He continued to train and
train. He continued to serve. He thought about Crowley and his
father. He thought they would be proud of him, and they were. He
thought about his life. One day, while he was dreaming, he was
called to the training center by a Veteran Ranger going by the
nickname 'Delope.'
That would be his first ranger test. They made him shoot targets
and breach. He completed them all, proud of his work once more.
He was dismissed later, thinking that the ranger thought he did
a good job. As days passed, he was called once again to a table,
by a veteran ranger called Scottgarnet Winetarius. They made him
fill some papers and do some questions, some of them were easy
and Kaz completed them easily. Some of them were hard, making
Kaz sweat. But at the end, he gave the paper and walked out. A
few weeks later, they were called again with a corporal, telling
them both they were accepted and were going to a Ranger camp
near the Legion camp. He was proud.
Waiting to be geared up, Kaz went out to scout some areas. He
saw a feral gecko. The gecko noticed him and started charging at
him. It was short work. But as he was about to shoot, he felt a
pain in his shoulder. He looked at his shoulder, noticing the
gecko teeth that were in it. This made him drop his gun. He held
his shoulder. He was losing blood. He did not think he was going
to survive. The gecko would have eaten him. But a radioactive
crater stopped them. The geckos noticed the crater and ran away
as fast as they could. They forgot Kaz though, and he soon
rolled into the radioactive crater.. An event that would change
his life.
As he rolled into the crater, he felt his flesh burning and
melting away. He screamed for help, but no one heard him. Soon,
he felt like he was left only as a skeleton. Soon, his voice was
gone aswell. It was not his voice anymore. He stopped screaming
and tried to resist the pain. He thought to himself, and told
himself it will soon be over. But it would not. A wastelander
saw the man in the crater screaming for help ontop of the
windmill. He quickly ran to the NCR outpost, alerting them. The
Rangers came and saw the man. They quickly grabbed the
unrecognizable man from the crater. He showed no signs of life.
They put some rocks on him and buried him. But he was not dead.
He opened his eyes, noticing the rocks. He shoved them off and
mumbled something, remembering the crater. How was he not dead?
He looked at himself.. He was not himself anymore. Was he like
Crowley? He quickly remembered the dogtag and seqoia. He took
the dogtag and stared at it. He soon took off his normal dogtag
and put Crowley's dogtag. He took the seqoia aswell, walking to
Rusty Springs. He was a different man. Kaz was no more. There
was now only Crowley. Crowley Moore. And he was going to
continue serving. It will honour him and Crowley. Kaz was no
more.. There was only Crowley.
