Character's Backstory: Anthony Pegg

This is just the briefest summary of the backstory of my main
character, note that the actual backstory is still in progress:
Anthony Pegg was born 2244 in a small town hospital in the Hub.
His family was just him, his parents and his brother who was 3
years older than Anthony. His brother Nicolai always was a
paragon for Anthony but he always seemed to be out of reach for
him. They lived on a small farm his father kept running. His
father was a drinker but he still managed to be a nice person
and keep their living standard. They weren't really rich and the
life on the farm was not easy but it wasn't too bad either.
Brandon, the father, started to take Nicolai with him when he
went hunting when he was 11 years old while Anthony had to help
his mother Nathalia. He hated that but when he turned 9 his
father took both of the brothers with him. Anthony quickly
learned how to use the guns and other important items, how to
make animals consumable and recreive other goods. He always
loved building his own items, using his father's workbench; with
time he became pretty good at it. When Anthony turned 14 he got
his own hunting rifle. It was an old one but he loved it and
also often modified it himself. One day, when Nicolai was 19
years old, he decided to go on a journey. His parents first
weren't so happy with that but they accepted though. Anthony
rather stayed with his parents and helped them wherever he could
without really having friends or other contacts. There were
pretty much no people around but a caravan that showed up once a
week. Nicolai often traded his recorded guitar music to them but
even now they had enough goods to trade with the caravans.
Someday Anthony just was not satified with his old gun anymore
so he saved up some caps and got an old but gold .44 repeater
from the caravan. The price was lowered because the scope broke
apart but since he has always been good with the workbench he
installed a new scope he got from his dad's old rifle. The farm
rarely was visited by anyone but one day there were a few
guys... no good ones unfortunately. A few bandits showed up and
since his mother was ill and his father had a broken foot -
hunting accident - the 19-year-old Anthony had to try and defeat
the farm all by himself. It was dark and the bandits did not see
him but he easily noticed that there were simply too many of
them. He silently ran back inside but his parents were asleep.
Out of desperation and stress he grabbed his gun, some food, a
satchel of caps and his coat and left, trying to escape the
bandits. He did not look back and left his parents to their fate
but he always hated himself for it. He has been walking for
hours. He did not know where he was and he has never been in
that part of the wastelands before, he could not even tell the
way back home. But after a while he met a small scavenger's
camp. It was all dark but the scavenger was still up, playing
his guitar in front of the fire place. Tired as Anthony was, he
asked for shelter and the scavenger let him sleep in his tent.
In that night he dreamed about his old family, his parents
getting mugged, killed or worse by the bandits. He also dreamed
about his brother, wanted to search for him but he had no idea
where to start.
When Anthony woke up the next day the scavenger was already
making some food. They ate and then continued to travel in
different directions. He has been walking the whole day, barely
resting. He barely met anyone or anything but it still was an
entirely new life and atmoshphere to him. In the evening he
noticed a few small lights in the distance so he planned to go
there the next day. And so he did. After a while of wandering he
came to a small town. The people were friendly. One even showed
him around town and also told him about the NCR- the New
California Repuplic. Anthony has rarely heard of that earlier
but he knew enough about them. Apparently it was an NCR town
with NCR citizens, NCR flags and all those things. The next few
days he was living in a small hotel and learned much more about
the NCR. Since he was all alone and had nothing but himself he
decided to join the NCR, earning some money, building up a life
and so on. He got new NCR equipment but he prefered his own
repeater and his boss said it was okay as long as he hits the
target. He has been living like this for a few years and never
regretted anything but to run away, leaving his parents for
dead. He wanted to search for his lost brother Nicolai so 2266
he decided to join the NCR-rangers after ge was nominated and
given an offer for such a position and wanted to reach different
outposts. He had to go far from the town so he quit his old
friendships and joined a ranger outpost squad. It was a long
trip through some dangerous locations.
Once they had to go through an old office building because the
road was blocked by debris. It was pretty dark and scary but no
really dangers- in the first levels. So Anthony's squad
continued walking through the building, Anthony as the last one.
Unlucky for him because after they passed a door they heared
some shouting from there. The shouting of super mutants. They
started to run but bad luck Anthony was hit as the others
escaped through the next levels. He was knocked down along the
corridor and a mad super mutant with a sledgehammer slowly
walked towards him. He quickly realized that he was screwed up
but then noticed a large heat pipe to the left. As the mutant
approached, Anthony quickly grabbed his 10mm pistol and shot at
the pipe a few times. The hot steam coming out of it pushed the
super mutant back and blocked off the way for the other mutants
but also hit Anthony's face. The steam burned the left side of
Anthony's face, it hurted as hell, so did his other wounds. He
could not even see too well but slowly managed to get out of the
office complex. As he left, he already saw the NCR outpost where
his squad was. He quickly walked there and got medical
treatment. It took a few days until he was able to work again
but his face stayed disfigured and his left ear permamently
weakened. However since he finally did get there and managed to
keep his equipment, just his 10mm he dropped was missing, the
squad leader gave him his colt 1911 for the special action.
Anthony was a good ranger, he was good with all those marches
every day and well trained.
Another incident happened on a march, a day where they went way
farther than usual. They were supposed to scout a whole new area
and also use the mision as special source of experience. Only
the commander and the coordinator knew the way back after they
went through a huge dry lake and desert-like path. A large group
of vicious dogs ambushed them and managed to kill both, the
commander and coordinator before they could be eleminated.
Besides Anthony there were two more rangers who survived but
none of them knew the way back and the desert and dry lake were
extremely huge. After five days in the desert sun and unbearable
pain, Anthony decided to shoot his fellow rangers into their
backs. He was afraid of them doing so but as well needed energy
from them. He consumed their the first's body and thus gained
more energy to continue walking. A day later he came to the rest
of the two bodies again, apparently he was going in a circle.
The body Anthony ate from was consumed even more by ants now,
even though none were to see, just as in the past week. He took
another rest and ate more from the other body before continuing
walker, eventually arriving in another NCR outpost a long
distance from his. His crime was never revealed and Anthony
never tasted human flesh after that anymore. He was simply
reasigned to a new squad after he made up a story he was trying
to forget.
It was a happy yet hard life for him until one day, a year
later, a group of legionares ambushed his squad while training
in the morning a few miles away from the outpost. They easily
knocked out all of them and brought them to a small legion
outpost. As a ranger Anthony knew what they were gonna do to
him: either torture him to death or make him fight in the arena.
In the pitt the legionares killed his squad, one after one but
not Anthony. Anthony had to fight in the arena, first against
disrespectful slaves, then even bad legionares but he won the
first few fights. Apparently they were bored after that and
decided to torture him a little every day. First his feet, they
screwed them up pretty bad- Anthony was not even able to walk
after that. Since the legionares propably thought he wasn't
going to go anywhere anyway they did not bother to tie him up.
The next night he slowly and painfully crawled out of the camp,
hardly managed to do so but then rolled down the edge and fell
into a river. He didn't want to give the legion the honor of
killing him. And he would have drowned if there would not have
been an NCR ranger squad, they checked and then got him out of
the water before taking him to the nearest outpost. The doctor
meant well but he could not save Anthony's feet. After a while
walking was no problem for him anymore but long marches were
impossible for Anthony now. This is how his life as a ranger was
destroyed, he was sent back to the NCR town where he first
joined the NCR, he got an offer as a guard but he denied.
With the years he was living in the wasteland, always having
enough caps, it became too bored for Anthony. He has often seen
and heard about mercenaries in the wasteland. It sounded
interesting to him so 2272 he was seeking a place in a mercenary
company. It wasn't too hard with his skills and found a good
place. The mercenary company he joined trained and teached him
everything about mercenary bussines. Once he even found a puppy
in a cave, near to death. Deciding to save that **** he trained
her and lived with her, calling her Samantha. But a few
contracts Anthony had to take were dishonoring, just like that
one time he had to kill an innocent woman. He was tired of doing
bad things for others so he decided to save the woman. Turned
out she was a runawaying slave and the slaver responsible for
her payed to see her dead. He brought her to his house and has
been living with her. He was still taking contracts but only the
good ones. With the time Anthony and the saved woman, Marisol,
started to love each other and even got engaged after a few
months. They became a son named Nicolai, after Anthony's
brother, and have been living happily for years; Anthony's job
always got them enough caps and it was save in the town. But one
day they did a family trip without the Samantha. They were
happily picknicking in an actual safe zone but three vicious
dogs silently approaches them and attacked Marisol and Nicolai
while Anthony was about 60 feet away from them, he ran back and
tried to save them but didn't manage to do so. Since there were
too many and he did not have his gun with him he lost his left
ring finger, killing the dogs. After checking his wife's corpse
he looked up and saw the slaver who was after Marisol. Anthony
easily recognized Broc van de Mere, he brought him into jail
himself. Seems like he is out... However Anthony could not reach
him with his wound and had to go back to town, carrying his
family's corpses.
That day Anthony changed. He did not leave his home for weeks,
using the time to mourn and think. After that he was against
most contact to other people, also left the mercenary company.
He still did some mercenary contracts but always alone with his
dog. That did not change since then, being a 'friend' of him
would take much convincing; he prefers to be alone with his dog
and only talk to others when neccessary. He drinks once or twice
in a while, mostly scotch or whiskey. He usually carries his
repeater, the colt with a seperate silencer, a thin seabag with
ammo, a Synth-combat knife, a stud gun and a few frag grenades
with a string to quickly build a trap, chloroform/ rags, a
geiger counter with a wire, ko drops and two empty syringes for
killing without leaving any marks, adrenaline syringes, rat
poison, arsen, Alpha 2U, vitamin K plus common salt, handcuffs
and some meds and chems.
But even now, 2286, almost 43 years old, one year after
Marisol's death, he sometimes hears her voice from the old
handheld radio she used to communicate with.
Note: Brandon and Nathalia Pegg. A happily married couple with a
three-year-old son, Nicolai. Living in an indipendent town
somewhere in the Capital Wasteland. Brandon, working as a farmer
and hunter, often walked through the desert, searching for wild
animals. Today he was going really far because he has not seen
any living creatures in his usual hunting area. He had to go
through a small canyon as he finally saw a few molerats. He
crouched down, aimed his hunting rifle, focusing the fattest
molerat, and shot once, missed. Unfortunately he heard a scream
followed by yells though. As he walked past the molerats he saw
an NCR squad: Three standing upright, aiming at Brandon as they
noticed him; one on the floor, holding his bleeding throat and
another one bent down, trying to help the heavily wounded
soldier. They decided not to shoot him yet to get him into jail
even though it was a hunting accident. The soldier died and his
friends were mad. But one of them, just about clear minded
enough to let him go, did so behind the others' back.
Still, Brandon had to leave the area as soon as possible and
took his pregnant wife and his young son with him. The only way
they could go was the way to the Hub, the worst area in the
Capital Wasteland, controlled by crime, drugs and prostitution.
He moved to a free area and built an own small house, advancing
it as the craftsman he was. It did not take too long until his
second son, Anthony, was born 2244...
