Building Glenn up just to kill him off?

In tonight's episode Glenn had yet another close call with death
just to be saved in the nick of time by Abe and Sasha.
So the question is, are they doing this in order to prepare us
for his demise in the season 6 finale?
I have a feeling they are.

Glenn hasn't harmed anyone on the show, and he's always helping
people; he's truly the moral authority of the group.
Glenn dying by Negan's hand would shatter everyone, and later
they'd demand vengeance, setting up the war against Negan.

I agree Glenn's death would have more of an emotional impact
because of his good and pure nature.
