"Dexter" to return in 2017?

Will Dexter be back for another season in the coming years? This
has been a rumor for the past couple of months, but there could
actually be some truth to the gossip after all. As previously
reported by the Inquisitr, the internet just about exploded on
Thanksgiving when the Dexter Twitter account tweeted a message
along with a creative meme.
The account has been fairly active over the past few weeks and
even sent out another tweet with another meme for Christmas.
Does this mean that Dexter is going to be revived by Showtime?
It’s definitely possible. According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, the
network has decided to bring the show back, and actor Michael C.
Hall will reportedly reprise his role as Dexter Morgan. The site
also reported that the show’s reboot could erase that finale
that many fans hated. How?
“Writer Jeff Lindsay stated that Dexter Morgan should not get a
happily ever after. He was a serial killer, and it shouldn’t be
rewarded. His idea for a reboot was that Dexter was dreaming in
the last scene of the finale. He wasn’t able to get away and was
caught. The start of the season nine premieres would show Dexter
at Florida’s state prison on death row.”
Although it would be a little lame, essentially erasing the
finale would mean that everyone’s favorite sister, Deb Morgan,
would still be alive. It would also allow the show to continue
on without having to change the plot much.
Dexter fans seem to have mixed feelings on the idea of a reboot.
While almost everyone would love to see Dexter back on the air,
the new episodes would need to be done just right. For a show
that makes you root for a serial killer, you can probably
imagine just how important that is.
A conflicting report (that is a bit more “official,” if you
will) indicates that Showtime has no intention of bringing the
show back to life at the current time. The Hollywood Reporter
published an article on November 30 that confirmed that there is
indeed “interest” in reviving the popular show, but that nothing
has been planned just yet.
“We continue to talk about it. If we were to do it, we have to
have a very good reason to do it. It has to feel like it’s a new
show. I’m not interested in doing it if it’s just a
continuation. If we were to do it, I would only do it with
Michael,” said Showtime’s David Nevins in January 2014. “We’re
at the very preliminary stage. That show is that character… and
if I were to do something, I would do Dexter in a new concept
and configuration. I want the show to feel different, not just a
continuation of the old show,” Nevins added.
If you really miss Dexter to an unbearable degree, you can check
out Limitless. Jennifer Carpenter plays Rebecca Harris, an FBI
agent. Her boyfriend on the show? Agent Casey Rooks played by
actor Desmond Harrington. It’s legit Deb Morgan and Joey Quinn
reunited. It’s not the same, but it may have to do for the time
being.
And if you are looking for something featuring Michael C. Hall,
he just finished filming Christine, a film about 1970s TV
reporter Christine Chubbuck. The movie is set to be released in
2016.
If Showtime decides to resurrect Dexter, would you watch a new
season?
