Laurie Holden; The Original Plans for Andrea
By: Rapscallion Date: July 13, 2016, 9:44 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Laurie Holden recently attended one of the Walker Stalker Cons,
and revealed the shows originally plans for her character
Andrea.
"I had an eight-year deal; I was supposed to be there until the
end. I was supposed to end up with Rick."
Laurie also revealed some of the show's off-screen troubles.
"I was supposed to save Woodbury on a horse, and I was buying a
house in Atlanta. I got the call at 10 o'clock the night
before, while I was shooting, from the showrunner who is no
longer a part of 'The Walking Dead' [Frank Darabont], saying
that they couldn't write the episode and that he was killing my
character. So we all got the script everybody on the set was
sobbing. I felt like I got shot. None of it was supposed to
happen the way it did."
In regards to the current status of her former show, Laurie
said:
"I think 'The Walking Dead' is in a really good place now with
Scott Gimple," she added. "It wasn't the ship that it is now.
I'm very grateful how it was written that I went out with grace
and with a stellar cast. It wasn't the way I wanted, but I
loved the way I went out."

As much as I hate what Gimple has done with Season 6, I have to
say he was the one who gave Andrea the better death. I remember
hearing about the original death Mazzara had planned for her,
and my god it was awful.
So Gimple really redeemed himself by giving Andrea a better send
off. Still wish she could've lived though.

I hated that the writers made Andrea be so ungrateful to Dale,
and how she fell under the influence of the Governor; I know
part of that was to show how charming the Governor was, but
after the skirmish at the prison, Andrea should've gotten out of
there.
I like to think Andrea stayed because of her commitment to the
people of Woodbury. Evil as the Governor was, it was the
closest thing to the return of society we've yet seen on the
show.
If Andrea had to die, I could've seen her arriving in the midst
of the battle for the prison (season 3 finale) in which she and
the Governor kill each other.

I think that's what it came down to in the end. Andrea was
staying for the people of Woodbury despite what she knew about
Phillip. But when she found out about the plans for attack on
the prison, that's when she decided to go back to Rick and the
others, not just warn them but return to them because they were
still her family.

One thing I wished happened with Andrea, was seeing more
flashbacks with her and Michonne during their nomadic winter.
It would've been interesting to see two strangers slowly opening
up to each other: Andrea talking about Amy, the group and the
events on the Greene farm. Michonne could talk about her
boyfriend, his best friend, and reveal they're now her two
walker pets! :o
Michonne wouldn't talk about her baby son; it would've been too
painful for her.
Plus, Andrea joked about saving Michonne's ass all winter. A
couple of fights against walkers and raiders would've been cool.

Agreed. This sounds like yet another missed opportunity on their
part.
