       Shane's Descent into Madness

Shane was always prepared to do what he thought was the "right
thing" but that line of thinking comes with a price, and a prime
example was when Shane sacrificed Otis so he could escape the
walkers with the medical supplies Hershel needed to save Carl's
       life.
after sacrificing Otis, Shane's mental health began to
deteriorate, until finally he'd try one last time to kill Rick
so he could keep Rick's family for himself.

If Shane really wanted to sell Otis' sacrificing himself to save
Carl, he should've thrown away Rick's Colt Python and his Glock
       pistol.
And remember that Daryl was the one who pointed that discrepancy
       out in Shane's story. ;D

Shane probably wasn't counting on Daryl or anyone else figuring
out what he'd really done, but Daryl surprised him and me too.

Any comments on Rick keeping the truth about Otis' death a
secret from Hershel so the group, and a pregnant Lori, could
stay on the Greene farm? Did Officer Friendly do the right
       thing?

As a Rick fan, no he didn't do the right thing. And it's obvious
he knew Hershel would probably kick them off his land for that.
Rick was desperate and desperation makes people selfish.

You're right off course, that Rick had to think about a pregnant
Lori, and the group, instead of telling Hershel that Shane
sacrificed Otis. But I wonder if Hershel would've ordered only
Shane off his land, because after the barn massacre, the only
person Hershel singled out was Shane.

You bring up another good point. Hershel definitely didn't seem
to like Shane much at all, and now that I think about it, maybe
Hershel didn't even buy Shane's story either but just kept up
like he did? Hershel wasn't a fool.

       Hershel bought Shane's story.
Otis knew guns, and Otis and Shane took his truck on the med
run. Hershel likely thought that Otis kept a gun in the glove
compartment and used it to cover Shane.

Then here's another question. Do you think if Rick told Hershel
the truth later at the prison, he would've forgiven him?
