Re: No Way Out: The Aftermath

       ---------------------------------------------------------
The snarls and growling of the walkers reminded Glenn of the
incident at the food pantry and now he wondered if the walkers
inside were people who worked here or came seeking shelter. Rick
turned around and surveyed the few large transport trucks parked
alongside the building and then looked back at Glenn.
"It's almost too quiet around here," he mentioned before
kneeling down in front of the metal door grabbing a hold of the
metal handle protruding from the center and giving it a light
tug. "We have no choice but to let them out," he explained to
Glenn. "Get the others over here now," he ordered.
"Rosita, Spencer, Aaron, and Daryl!" Glenn shouted above the
walker noise. "Rick needs all of us here. He's going to let the
       walkers out."
Rosita hurried over and pulled out her knife getting herself in
place while the others followed. Daryl stared at Rick again,
knowing full and well that he shouldn't be out here in the first
place. He isn't well and his foolishness could easily get
himself or someone else injured or even killed. Daryl had his
doubts with Spencer but it seemed Rick's situation was more
problematic, and while Daryl seemed lost in thought he didn't
expect to hear Rick calling out for his help now.
"Daryl," Rick called over to him while he held on to the metal
handle. "I need your help. I can't lift this on my own."
You can't seem to do **** right now, can you? Daryl thought to
himself as he moved over by the door and gripped the handle
       along with Rick.
"On the count of three," Rick instructed and Daryl nodded. "Get
       ready everyone!"
Glenn, Rosita, Spencer, and Aaron had their weapons ready
standing spread out behind Rick and Daryl.
"One..........two...........three!" Rick's face tensed as he
lifted the door up along with Daryl and the first walker that
attempted to flee had tripped and fallen on the ground right
next to them. Daryl was quick to stomp its head in before
scrambling to get out of the way while the other small herd of
       walkers emerged from the building.
Glenn and the rest of the group began taking them all out one by
one while keeping their distance from the entrance just in case
any surprise stragglers were to suddenly pop up. All seemed to
be going well and most of the walkers had been taken out until
Rick suddenly froze in terror, watching as a walker child walked
out. It was a young boy around Carl's age with short dark hair
and it even wore clothing similar to Carl's. In that moment Rick
couldn't believe his eyes. It felt like he was back at Hershel's
farm when Sophia had walked out of the barn. Daryl felt it too
as he stared at the child, reminded of Carol and the loss of
       Sam.
Carl?" Rick began to tear up as he witnessed another flashback
of his son getting shot in the eye. "Carl," Rick whimpered as he
       started walking towards the child.
"Rick don't!" Daryl suddenly shouted. "That's not Carl!"
But Rick couldn't hear him, all he could see was his son walking
towards him now with open arms ready to embrace him.
"Rick!" Glenn shouted just as Rick had gotten too close for
       comfort.
Daryl didn't waste another second waiting for Rick to get
himself killed as he suddenly rushed over and grabbed Rick
yanking him back and then turned to stab the child walker in the
head. Rick could only see this as Daryl killing his son again.
"No!!!!!!" Rick cried out as he suddenly charged Daryl and began
throwing punches at him. "I won't let you kill him!" Rick
snarled as he threw Daryl to the ground and began wailing on
       him. "I won't let you!!!!"
"He ain't your son!" Daryl seethed as he fought back trying to
get a choke hold on him. "Snap out of it, Rick!"
"We have to stop them," Glenn turned to Rosita and then they
rushed over to try and pull Rick off of Daryl but he wouldn't
comply and now he had his hands around Daryl's throat choking
       him.
"Rick stop it!" Glenn cried out. "Rick!!!!!!"
Then in an attempt to be brave and redeem himself Spencer came
up behind Rick and put him in a choke hold while Glenn, Rosita,
and Aaron came to his aid and soon they were able to subdue
       Rick.
Daryl coughed and even spit out a little bit of blood as he sat
on the ground glaring over at Rick who was crying and ranting
deliriously as Glenn tried to talk sense into him.
"You alright?" Aaron asked as he knelt down beside Daryl and
offered his hand to help him up.
"Peachy," Daryl remarked sarcastically as he got back on his
       feet.
"Rick, Carl is back at Alexandria," Glenn was saying to Rick as
Daryl listened. "He's alive and he's resting, remember?"
Rick wiped his eyes and exhaled deeply only to meet Daryl's cold
       gaze once he looked up.
"Daryl, I'm sorry," Rick said even though he knew Daryl probably
didn't want to hear it from him. "You're right, what you said
earlier. I shouldn't be out here. At least not now."
Daryl scoffed and then walked off to have a cigarette by
       himself.
Rick turned to Glenn and sighed as he lowered his head. "I don't
know what got into me. I really don't."
"You should be resting," Glenn replied in an almost scolding
manner. "You can't even keep your head straight out here. Look
what just happened? You tried to kill Daryl. Rick, look man, I
respect you, but when something is wrong I'm not going to be
silent about it. You're not well and it's not just me who sees
       it. We all do."
Rick sighed again before finally getting back on his feet. "So
what do you want me to do?" He asked Glenn.
"Wait in the truck," Glenn replied. "Let us take care of this
supply run so we can all get back home and without anymore
       incidents like this."
"Okay," Rick nodded at Glenn. "I'll wait in the truck." Then he
noticed Daryl was missing. "Where's Daryl?"

Not bad, Ricky, but it would've been better if Rick denied he
had a problem. I also think Rick freaking out over a walker boy
that reminded him of Carl was too much.
I do like Glenn showing some leadership and confidence; he's not
a naïve kid anymore. I also like Daryl having some hostility
towards Rick, but I think the fight between them should've
       happened in a future chapter.

Thanks for the honest feedback ;D
I think Rick is still in denial he has a problem but because he
was outnumbered he decided it was better to listen to them. And
his fight with Daryl was just the beginning. There's definitely
going to be a lot of conflict there. Right now Daryl is torn
between feeling sorry for him and hating him, so there's going
to be another bigger fight and Rick won't be so delusional for
this one. Daryl isn't going to lay down and take shit from him
anymore, and that's one thing he's going to make clear.

While the rest of the group were busy scavenging inside the
cannery, Glenn walked off to find Daryl and check on on him to
see if he was alright. When he finally found him Daryl was
standing with his back up against one of the large trucks
puffing on a cigarette staring off into space.
"Daryl," he heard Glenn call his name and turned his head in
       Glenn's direction.
"What do you want?" Daryl asked coldly narrowing his eyes.
"Just to check on you, man," Glenn replied as he stopped and
brushed his long black bangs out of his eyes. "Look, I know
you're mad at Rick, I would be too, but you know he didn't mean
it. He's not acting like himself."
Daryl scoffed. "Rick hasn't been himself since we came to
Alexandria. Why do you think I kept my distance from him after
that? Cause he was acting like Shane."
"I know," Glenn sighed. "I could see it too, but he's trying to
change for the better now. He's just worried about Carl. So
please Daryl, could you try to forgive him? You guys need each
other, we all do. We can't make Alexandria work if we're all at
each other's throats all the time. We have to be a team here."
Daryl hated to admit it but Glenn was right. And for some reason
Glenn always seemed to be voice of reason when it came to
conflict in the group, especially after the loss of Hershel,
Bob, and Tyreese who had also been great moral compasses for the
       benefit of the group.
"I forgive him," Daryl responded gruffly puffing on his
cigarette. "But I ain't gonna talk to him now."
Glenn nodded. "I know, I'm not asking you to. You need your
space, I get it. But after you finish smoking would you mind
helping the rest of us? Rosita and Aaron are hauling some boxes
of canned goods right now, but there's more and we need your
       help."
"Yeah give me a sec," Daryl replied. "I'll be right there."
"Thanks, man," Glenn smiled before he walked off again.

       Nice vignette, Ricky.
Glenn's the group's new moral authority, which means he's gonna
       die. :'(

Re: No Way Out: The Aftermath
       By: Ickray_Imesgray Date: June 7, 2016, 4:03 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
After gathering whatever they could find they all decided to
head back home. They weren't empty handed but they also didn't
find as much as they had hoped to, but at least it was just
enough to last a few weeks before they would have to leave
       again.
The drive back home was a quiet one. Rick sat in the passenger
seat of the truck while Glenn drove feeling relieved that it was
finally over with today. Rosita sat behind Rick with her body
stretched out across the seat trying to doze off. It was almost
too quiet until they suddenly passed by a small herd of walkers
that were growling and gnashing their teeth.
Rosita sat straight up and looked out the small window to her
right and saw them. Glenn stepped on the gas and peered into the
rear view mirror to see Daryl in the car following behind. He
knew Daryl was probably still sore at Rick but he also knew
Daryl wasn't the type of person to hold on to a grudge either.
Like Glenn had told him, they needed one another and it was
nothing but the truth. It was the only reason they had survived
this long and made it this far.
But the thought of seeing Maggie's smiling face was the one
thing Glenn could only think about now. He told her nothing
would happen to him and he'd been right, so now she would see it
for herself once he pulled in the gates and emerged from that
truck. She'd run right to him with open arms and they would
embrace so tightly and he'd never let her go. He remembered that
night he spent underneath the dumpster wishing so badly he could
just crawl out and go home, but it wasn't safe at the time.
There were still many walkers left from that herd even after
       they devoured Nicholas's body.
Still he had to wonder just why he survived and was able to hide
from the walkers at all. It must have been fate or something he
thought. Meaning he was meant to survive so he could be the
husband and father he was meant to be. It was a miracle for
certain and a strange one, but he'd had many other close brushes
with death in the past. He couldn't help but wonder if one day
       his luck would run out?
Meanwhile in the other car Daryl was silent too even though
Aaron had attempted to start some form of conversation talking
about things he and Eric always wanted to do before the world
turned to shit. Daryl listened but his mind was elsewhere. Right
now all he wanted to do was get back home and be alone with his
thoughts, to feel them and deal with them as Carol had told him
       to do.
He still missed his brother, Beth, and everyone else they had
lost. He'd said before that he was tired of losing people and he
meant it. There was too much death around anymore and it was
definitely weighing on him and he knew it had to be weighing on
Carol too. He could tell by her silence and the way she
distanced herself from everyone else. Even after learning of
Tyreese's death Carol didn't seem to react much. She must be
getting used to it or something, Daryl thought. Hell I am too
       and I hate it.
"Do you think we'll ever find another horse like Buttons?" Aaron
       suddenly asked breaking the silence.
"Possibly," Daryl replied even though he was certain himself.
       "Why you ask?"
"Eric and I would love to go horseback riding," Aaron answered.
"After his leg is healed of course. But it's just one of those
things we'd like to do together."
Daryl said nothing more and noticed that Spencer had fallen
       asleep in the back.
"What did you do before all this?" Aaron asked Daryl catching
him completely off guard reminding him of that deep conversation
he had with Beth in the woods.
"Nothing," Daryl answered feeling as though he were repeating
himself. "It was just me and my brother."
"I see," Aaron responded. "Older or younger?"
"Older," Daryl answered grumpily hoping Aaron would stop with
all the questions already. "His name was Merle," Daryl mentioned
quickly knowing that was probably the next question Aaron was
       about to ask.
Spencer began to stir in his sleep a little as though he were
       having some kind of nightmare.
"Well we're not too far from home now," Aaron mentioned looking
out the window. "I'd say we're half way there."
Good to know, Daryl thought keeping his eyes on the road and the
       white truck ahead of them.

Nice work, Ricky. My one criticism is that since Rick lost his

Michonne sat at Carl's bedside holding his hand just as Rick
would praying that he would wake up soon. She leaned forward and
gently planted a kiss on his forehead when the boy suddenly
       moved.
Michonne stood right up her eyes wide as she watched him
wondering if it was the sign she'd been looking for, but then
there was nothing and soon Denise walked in to check on him.
"I saw him move," Michonne explained to her.
"Well it's not uncommon for comatose patients to have brief
spontaneous moments you see," Denise replied checking his
vitals. "It's not good or bad of course but he's definitely not
waking up anytime soon, not with the amount of damage he took to
       his face."
Michonne lowered her head and closed her eyes. "I understand."
"Well his heart rate looks good and his vitals are all pretty
normal," Denise announced smiling back at her.
"That's good," Michonne couldn't help but smile even though she
were still worried about what condition he'd be in when he
       finally came to.
"Still the extent of the damage is unclear," Denise mentioned as
she changed Carl' bandages. "We won't know for sure until he
does wake up. But right now? There's no telling when that will
       be."
Michonne suddenly felt the same hopelessness Rick had before
when he learned his son would probably never wake up for a long
time. I feel your pain Rick, she thought as her eyes began to
water. I'm scared for Carl too.
