I hated Gabriel for snitching Rick's group out to Deanna, but I
like that he's regained his Faith, found his courage, and is
stepping up for Alexandria.

I hated Gabriel for snitching Rick's group out to Deanna, but I

I hated him for that too but later I kind of realized he was
talking about himself, that he couldn't be trusted and instead
was projecting that anger on Rick and his group because he
didn't understand why they do the things they do. But now I
think it's safe to say he knows and has accepted it.

I don't know if I agree with your theory, but with when Gabriel
was in the Alexandrian church with the townspeople, he realized
history was repeating itself, and he couldn't allow himself to
be afraid again.
