Looking back on the circumstances of Rick's shooting, I'd have
to say discipline in King County's Sheriff's Department is
       pretty lax.
Rick had to scold one deputy into checking there was a round in
       his pistol's chamber.
Shane—who was carrying a shotgun—hung back while Rick went to
       inspect the car crash.
Most of the deputies shots were wild and missed the suspects.
When Rick was first shot (his vest absorbed the impact) Shane
and the other deputies didn't check the car to see if all the
       suspects were dead or incapacitated.
None of the deputies shouted an alarm when that last suspect
crawled out of the car wreck and shot Rick in the back.

I noticed this too and always wondered why they weren't more
cautious. Did they even know how many were in the car
beforehand? And why assume they're all dead, that's just
       laziness.
