It would never occur to anyone to see something different from a
tyrannical regime in the way in which the couple formed by
Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo exercises power in Nicaragua
today. On the right, it is a case that has been closed for a
long time, which does not exclude a calm acceptance of the
prolonged collusion of the business sectors and a part of the
Catholic Church with Ortega over 11 years (2007-2018). On the
left, different political families understood that Nicaragua
lives under a regime of terror.
Finally, even the members of the "radical" left, who Phone

recently were very reluctant to criticize
the totalitarian drifts of the Latin American revolutionary
movements, have already decided to speak bluntly of the
"Ortega-Murillo dictatorship" and assume the defense of
Nicaraguan political prisoners. It is only possible to celebrate
this consensus in the denunciation of a tyranny each day that is
a little more brutal and unpopular.

It remains to understand what its political form is. According
to some critics from former companions of the revolution, both
in the American continent and in Europe, as well as analysts of
Nicaraguan politics, this dictatorship would account for a
project to restore forms of patrimonial domination, similar to
that exercised by the Somozas between 1936 and 1979. It is worth
asking, however, if this "authoritarian drift" of Ortega is not
       much older.
