The debate URD, APEX or rF2 GT3

So I had a very quick play last night with these 3 mods on
Monza, just to get a feel for the different mods on a track I
really enjoy and these are my thoughts.
URD - Obviously this is our mod of choice and I really do enjoy
it. Good general feel from the car and the behavior is fairly
predictable.
APEX - Well I think there have been significant improvements
with this mod over the past few months and I really quite like
it. Its much more on a par with the URD mod now and in some
aspects to me it feels more intuitive. There are still some
quirks with the setup and the Camero doesn't handle the kerbs as
well as the URD mod, but I definitely enjoy the experience.
This is also the fastest mod out of the 3.
rF2 - well there is only the Mclarean for now and again the last
update made this car a lot more predictable. Out of the 3 mods
this is by far the easiest to push hard and recover mistakes.
But for me it actually feels the most realistic. Setup is much
simpler as there are less options and lap times are very
comparable to the URD mod, in fact on this track I think it
could easily be added as another car option.
Verdict- Well I would say the rF2 mod is my preference, followed
equally by the URD and APEX mod, yes for me they are now equal,
but there are some setup glitches with the APEX mod, so this
just gives the URD mod the edge.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote there. Ideally I
would prefer to use non-mods, as ISI/S397 Content has not only
been superior, but also will never be abandoned or take forever
to get updates like mods.
I will race whichever is chosen, but I agree with you Tech, and
I know Scott does too, that the S397 GT3 pack is the choice.

I am a bit sour that S397 added that ugly-ass Bentley to the
pack, but at least the McLaren is a beauty.
Another point is that half the cars in the other 2 mods are
basically extinct. It's not a big deal but I much prefer the new
Merc to that older, ugly one.

I am curious if those who have not purchased the Mclaren can
race on a server with Mclaren and non-GT3 Pack cars. What I mean
by that is whether a person who has not purchased the official
GT3 pack can race against the pack content. I should put up a
server with the GT3 Mclaren and the URD mod. anyone who has not
purchased the Mclaren or whole pack can let me know if they can
connect. I believe I read that the pack can be subscribed to in
the workshop even without purchase. This would indicate to me
that people who have not purchased the pack or car can still get
it so they can race against it.

URD traditionally has the best in-game looking cars. S397 might
have contracted one of their modelers for the other cars in the
pack, and maybe the McLaren since it's the exact same as the
Assetto version, so it does look neat. I don't like how their
cars drive, there's a rigidity to them and I feel setups are
developed based on exploiting development factors instead of
reality. Their focus on pumping out models for paid jobs instead
of updating the mods they sold the community leave me
indifferent to anything they do. I'd love for them to have been
better driving cars and a better company, because if they had
top notch GTE cars, it would rock. Mind you, GTE is slower than
GT3.
Apex has the largest roster but the visual quality varies, maybe
it's one person having to do too much. They have contacts in the
racing industry and I know they use tires developed with help
from Michael Borda himself, and copy other ISI parameters (like
FFB). I struggled with car setup in the GT mod, partially it can
be me but partially trying wildly different numbers and being
able to drive the same (v.935). I expect quality to improve and
drive just like first-party releases but I think only the
recently developed cars will be that way, with the older models
lacking visually.
Even if they have their mods become paid material, after being
"shafted" despite their free contributions, I expect them to be
of better value than URD or S397 due to the comprehensiveness
and content. Comprehensiveness regarding cars, as they have new
GT3 cars that S397 does not have (Callaway Corvette that no one
else does and the 488, maybe the M6 too if S397 doesn't get the
BMW), and content because if they do put focus on either Le Mans
1999 or 1970-73, we'll get a fantastic set of cars.
About Studio 397, I have to wait and see. I've not played
anything in a while and have no interest either. There are some
idiosyncrasies to their released cars that don't sit too well
with the source. It's still the same people from ISI days so
that is not unexpected. I don't doubt that by investing focus to
the core game code, some or many of those disparities disappear
or shrink considerably. The McLaren was made to run under very
restricted settings and with one tire compound, and from all
I've read and seen, it drives more razor's edge in real life,
unable to take abuse. I still believe a 1:54 (in Silverstone)
can be achieved by a dedicated driver with sufficient interest
which would obliterate real life's perfect parameters by 4s.
Anyway, I hope they don't keep locking and encrypting everything
(including ISI-made content) and make it difficult for modders
to generate work that would conflict with their paid DLC focus.
Verdict
Indifferent with current rF2 and Apex GT3 cars, leaning heavily
towards Apex for the future. Previously wishful URD was better
under the hood.

I'll reserve judgement til the full GTE mod is out. But as of
this moment I like the way the McLaren drives, although I do not
like McLaren. It acts like a race car should, and feels
connected to the track.
I like the URD mod as well. Having a lot of fun racing it.
Haven't driven the APEX mod in a long time. I didn't like it
when I did drive it. Will have to revisit it since updates.

I'm probably happy with all of these. I think we should try out
ISI/Studio 397 GT3 cars next season especially if it's enough to
own just one car to race against others. I have the pack.

I don't mind driving the Bentley. I like it. The Mclaren too,
but as a spectator at a track it's sometimes hard to distinguish
it at a distance from Ferrari's. The Bentley really stands out
and for such a heavy/big car, it goes really fast.

I'd prefer to have at least one more season with the URD mod. I
have a lot invested in the mod, both timewise, and training.
I'd agree with the point that the 397 cars are the future, but
i'd prefer to wait until they mature, and hopefully add more
cars to the roster.
