Still for anyone looking to get into VR this Rift is f'ing
amazing. Especially at the $400.00 price point. Just make sure
you have a decent system. My top end computer from 3 years ago
(FX8320 OC@ 4.0 GHz and R9 290) is barely pushing consistent
frame rates over long play sessions.
[/quote]
I agree, I have a i5 OC'd to 4.2 and a OC'd GTX 970 and it runs
OK but I am going to update to a GTX1080 at least after the
first of the year.
I'm also looking at building a new system when the I7 Gen 8
become more available and setup as my racing rig and use the
current system for Elite Dangerous. It's getting old moving the
steering wheel out of the way and hooking up the HOTAS every
time I want to play ED then back again to race.
I have built my own systems since the late 90's but I have
always had to budget for not quite the best but some kind of
compromise. Usually not the latest greatest. Not this time, I
want to build the best that is available in the first 1/4 of
2018 dagnabit! ;D
Now, what can I sell? ;D

Just for reference, my system is not scratch built. I have an
Alienware Aurora R6. i7-7700 CPU. GTX1080ti GPU. It runs rock
solid... except for the occasional cat. Yes Chad, very good
design on Oculus part that the cable can be replaced!

I started building my own computers since the very early 2000's.
I, like you Gerry, have always had to compromise on parts to
afford the most bang for buck. The system I currently have cost
me $1100.00 to build. That by far was the most I have ever spent
on a build that was my own. I typically spent $600-$700 every
couple of years, so considering the cost to build over time I am
about due for an update. Just not sure when I'll have the coin
for a new computer. Time to sell a Kidney.

For anyone who has taken the plunge into the Rift I am looking
to add some friends to my Oculus Rift friends list. You can look
me up by either my real name or my handle "Depco". At this point
I only am for sure aware of Gerry having a rift. I looked up his
name and Oculus said no person by that name.

I also have the problem of my wheel being in the way of my Hotas
:p My wheel is firmly attached to my rig so I have no option to
move it out of the way. I have tried placing my hotas on my
narrow keyboard plate, not an ideal solution.

I'm not sure if I ever completed my registration to the Oculus
app. Seems like I may have gotten as far as having to create a
PIN number? Or just after and it was asking me a lot of
questions and too involved, I just wanted to get to playing with
the device, not all this Facebook get my inf to sell virtual
paperwork sh*te. ;D If had created a handle or username it
would be lotus23bsr.
I'm at work now but I'll look into it tonight and see if I
completed the reg. process and see if I can find you.

Yes, that does sound precarious.
I have wanted for a long time to design and build a real sim
racing rig with an actual racing seat and a nice frame made out
of 8020 components and away to easily swing the hotas into
position and back out the way when not being used. Just need
money and time :)
I am going to retire in a year so maybe I'll have time then LOL.

I'm at work now, but I'll "friend" you when I get home.
I'm pretty sure I'm "Ibby003" in Oculus.
My replacement cable arrived and my Rift is back up and running.
Just bought Talos Principle VR. Haven't fired it up yet, but
looking forward to it.
Besides the realism of car racing, sometimes VR is nice just to
"get away" into a virtual world and relax!

The Pimax is actually 2x 4k screens. The "8K" is a marketing
gimmick. But it has 200 degrees of view, so thats nice. Also
there is no positional tracking. I see the company either
selling the tech to one of the 3 major players.
