Quick question regarding steam on a SSD and the steamapps on
HDD.
I put Steam on the SSD and all the Steam-content (rf2) on the
HDD. Until 2 days ago it worked perfect. Now, somehow, Steam
wants to install rf2 again, which it does on the SSD. I thought
the entire game was on HDD (the entire 'Common' folder is
located on the HDD). I couldn't play rf2 without going the
entire install process. In the end it worked fine, although all
my content was elsewhere (so no cars, skins, tracks...). I
figured that by deleting the rf2 game on the SSD and redirecting
Steam to the HDD, it would work again. It failed however, so I'm
currently re-installing rf2 for a second time.
I don't get why steam suddenly wants to install the game again,
unless the recent steam-update messed something up. I could just
redirect the content in rf2 (packages) to the HDD, but I would
still have rf2 installed in 2 locations.
Is it better to have to game on the SSD and only the packages on
the HDD?
If not, how can I get back to the entire game on the HDD?
All this **** messes with my training, which is already limited
this week.

Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles.
All I can tell you is that I opted to save EVERYTHING on the HDD
and nothing on the SSD. So steam, all it's games (including rF2)
and therefore all the rF2 mods and workshop files all download
to the HDD by default.
As others have pointed out, there doesn't seem to be any
slowdown penalty for this after the initial loading screen.
However, if you are also into flight sims where scenery is
loaded "on the fly" (ha good one Paul), then that could be an
argument for putting it on the SSD.
But I think my advice would just be put it all on the HDD.

My entire steam install and all games are on my HDD. the only
programs on my SSD are the OS and some minor programs that tale
little space. I don't understand why steam would have decided
it did not like your installation of rfactor 2. Is it possible
that you logged in on a separate account or just simply weren't
logged in at all?

I was logged in and I have only one account. So I don't get what
happened. I did notice that suddenly I had to folder in the
download section (one on the SSD and one on the HDD) and I think
it happened with a Steam- update.
I'll try to move Steam to the HDD this evening. According to
their site, it's doable.

i just moved it via steam to new ssd
it does put the workshop folder in there as well with workshop
stuff 45gb mine is plus rf2 109gb
so 150gb RF2 has its own ssd now lol
other URD ASR tracks etc packages are on 1TB drive 130GB of them

Not sure if this will apply in your situation any more but I
discovered a program last year when my SSD was getting full.

It works for me, I've used it a few times to move steam games
from my SSD to my HDD and back again if I wanted to.
Easy to use and you don't install it, it runs from an .exe
Read through the entire page I have linked to to see additional

That might be helpful.
After lots of sweating and swearing and a third download I
managed to get it going again. I removed all Rf2 files on SSD
and HDD and reinstalled a third time after reinstalling Steam
(and determining the download folder on my HDD (again)). Then I
put all the plugins, package-folder, controller file... back in
place and it worked.
But now I realised that Steam installs rf2 both on SSD and HDD.
For now I'll leave it as it is, but I'll probably will try
moving Steam altogether to the HDD.

After a couple of days Steam started acting up again this
evening. I tried moving steam (not with your program, Gerry,
since the download folder of Steam was already on a separate
location), but no success.
So I removed everything and installed Steam again, entirely on
the HDD. Just started downloading rF2 again. I'm really near my
monthly downloadlimit, but luckily that will be reset tomorrow.
Fingers crossed that it'll be a definitive fix.

If I get a bigger, way more expensive plan, there is no limit,
except for FUP. But so far I never got near the limit (150GB at
the moment), even with a youtube on the smart TV and lots of
livestreaming. In this period I got my new desktop and so far
downloaded rf2 5 times. :D
But in general our small country is no good regarding telecom.
We only have two major ISP’s, of which one is not really good
anymore. With no real competitors, price stay high and
limits/speed stay low. I still have analog television because
the offer of channels on digital television I really want is no
good. For what I want to see, I have to pay lots more than the
standard offer. and with so little time left to really watch tv,
it’s not worth it.
The same goes for mobile communication (3 providers) over here.
