Optimus Bedtime (Joel and Mom)

It was close to bedtime and I was waitin on Mom. She gets to
tuck is in tonight and stuff which is weird because before it
was mostly Dad. We're all in the same house together now though
and that's really cool. While I'm waiting I've got my
transformers and I'm lining them up on my desk. Bumble Bee is my
most favourite and I've got him stood up or I'm trying to but he
keep falling over.

When it's Joey's bedtime I knock on his door, his thermometer,
the Vaseline, suppositories, and his plug in my hands. "Hey,
kiddo. Time to clean up the Transformers," I tell him.

I look at Mom when she says it's time to clean up the
transformers. I shake my head gently, not saying no though,
"They live on the desk...see. All neat in a row " I say to her
pointing to them except Bumble Bee fell over and then knocked
Optimus Prime over and onto the floor. "or at least they're
supposed to."

Exactly where the toys belong I won't push unless it isn't neat.
Which Joey's display is. Except for Optimus Prime, to which I
nod. "Well, better pick him up and set him and Bumblebee up
alongside the others," I comment as I sit on the bed and ready
the thermometer while he does so. "And then come on over here
for your temperature-taking."

I look at Mom when she goes to sit on the bed, I think maybe
holding Optimus Prime is a better option. I don't like
temperature taking at all, not even a little bit. I pick up
Optimus Prime and kinda stand where I am for a moment, "Do I
gotta?" I ask just to make super super sure I have to go to her

I know Joey doesn't like this any more than the others do, but
he knows it's needed. When he asks if he has to I see the toy in
his arms and soften even more but say as I hold out my hand,
"yes, Joey. Come let's get it over with."

I kinda look at Mom and then at the desk that has my
transformers on it, before breathing out heavily for a second. I
put Optimus Prime next to Bumble Bee again and slooowly go to
Mom, as slow as my feet will go.

I wait while my son gathers his nerve and then slowly makes his
way over to my open arms. I give him a hug and smooth back his
hair. "Alright, now. Let me get your bottom bare," I tell him
and help him to stand back up so I can start to do just that.

Mom says to let her get my butt bare, so I stand up with my
hands at my sides so she can. I don't like this at all, I'm way
to big for it too. I know that it happens though and making
Mom's life difficult only makes it worse.

"That's it," I coo softly, smiling at my son as I move my hands
to bare his bottom. "There we go. Momma's got you," I say as I
help Josiah over my lap. I start to get the thermometer and
Vaseline ready, then rest a hand on my son's bottom, ready to
part his cheeks. "Relax," I advise.
