Welcome, Javier :-) Thanks for joining the board!
I completely relate to the worry that your eyesight is getting
worse. My glasses are -25 and my doctor said that by the time
I'm 30, there's a possibility that I could be blind. It's sort
of a difficult thing to hear. I want you to know though, that we
are all here to support you :-)

Thanks, fortunately for me my visión is very good wearing
contacts, no so good wearing glasses, at the moment i dont have
any problems in my eyes except my very high myopia.
I´m sure that you´ll get no blind in future. You must be
optimistic.

My vision is worsening, but it is happening fairly slowly. I
don't notice it on a daily basis, but it is discernibly worse
now than it was six months ago. I have no real idea of what this
portends; neither does the ophthalmologist. I can still read
print in small doses, if it is in sufficiently large font, but I
am learning braille, so I won't panic when crunch time comes. I
couldn't deal with being illiterate.

It is perfectly understandable to be worried about losing your
vision. Mine has been getting worse too, I lose a little bit
more every year or so. The really scary thing for me though is
that I'm at high risk of my retina detaching so I could go
completely blind at any time

I did have a torn and detached retina, in my good eye, too,
unfortunately. I had high-tech invasive surgery to stitch it
back together and tack it back in place. The procedure was
declared a success by the retinologist, meaning that I wasn't
left totally blind.

That's so scary, I'm glad to hear it was a success though!
Mine hasn't gotten any worse, keeping my figures crossed... I
was born with a hole in my retina and another hole in my pupil
which is cool because it makes my pupil look like a keyhole.

It probably sounds worse than it was at the time. I do remember
thinking how bizarre everything was, and wondering how it was
going to turn out. Total blindness would have been scary (though
I may have to face it at some point); but since my vision has
never been very good, its worsening, even markedly, wasn't that
big of a shock. Where I am now is what the state agency I am
receiving services from refers to as being "print disabled."
Using JAWS, however, has become second nature, and ironically I
am reading considerably more now than I was before all this
happened. It is also easy to download kindle books to the
laptop, and access them via the kindle screen reading program.
In fact, I am reading one this evening for a class.

Where do you get a screen reading program for Kindle? I was
trying to figure out how to get text-to-speech functionality out
of it.
Also, I love e-books but sometimes in the Kindle graphics are
impossible to read and won't even zoom. Do you ever have issues
with that too?

Hm, okay, thanks, I'll check it out. I'm using the Kindle app,
so I'm not sure if it's the same.
