Alpha 4.0 Release - Server Reset

Hi all,
The Alpha 4.0 release of the game is "just around the corner".
We're not sure exactly when it will be released but it should be
within a week from now unless their testing reveals something
big enough to cause a delay.
As part of the Alpha 4.0 release, there are enough changes to
warrant a complete reset of the server and as such we will be
doing this. Not only will it allow the new content to be
implemented, the game will benefit from a clean out all our
orbits & planets and refresh all the resource nodes, as well as
introduce new POIs. There have been many reported bugs of
varying nature that have been dragged across from update to
update, so a server reset will eliminate these little gremlins
also. We have literally thousands of folders of people's
entities and past players clogging up the system as we have been
running this particular game instance since 22nd June - almost
five months!
So, what do you do now? Since we don't know when Alpha 4.0 will
be released, you may as well continue to play as you have been -
but make sure to take a blueprint of whatever designs you are
working on, finished or not. Once the reset occurs you can then
spawn in your entities again (once you have acquired the
resources needed), finished or not, and continue on.
While we really hate to reset the server, it is the recommended
course of action from the game developers. Considering we've
been running this instance of the game for almost five months I
reckon we're one of the most consistent and stable servers
around.......
I would suggest all 'up to date' servers will be doing resets as
well, so I think it would be a global thing.....
Once the reset occurs our universe will be pretty similar to
what it is now, however there will be a few changes to
planets/orbits. We will introduce additional planets & orbits,
and challenge areas, and we will take advantage of any "new
features" the new version has to offer us to allow us to make
the game more interesting than the default options available.

Just an update to Andy's original server reset message.
Couple of things I just want to explain / clarify to make sure
everyone is on the same page.
What will happen to Venatus Australia when 4.0 Hits?

Due to the complexity of 4.0, the content they are adding and
the changes made to config files, we will be doing a full wipe.
This is not likely to be just Venatus Australia, but also most
other servers, as the coding changes will pretty much require
it.
The server is very unlikely to be reset on day one - the reason
for this is Andy and myself are going to have to get the new
planet templates and add our custom planets to these so all the
improvements / plants / animals and so on are included on the
starter planets. We will however get the starter planets done as
soon as possible once 4.0 is released (we both have families and
day jobs so we can only do so much).
When we do reset, we will start with just a few planets, and
slowly over the next week or two add the other planets - this is
simply related to making sure that all our custom planets are
the best they can be and have all the updates 4.0 offers. Please
bare with us as we put back what we already have now and
hopefully add some new cool stuff as well.

The current status of 4.0 is still in the Experimental Branch
without an actual release date (although it could be very soon),
until then, don't be discouraged to play and enjoy the game.
Remember, this is an alpha and we haven't had a full reset since
the 22 June, which is much longer than pretty much any other
server. The average server wipes between 1 month and 2 months,
sometimes even weekly due to complexity. We try to avoid
needless wiping and only do so when its absolutely necessary,
this leads to a much more long term server and larger more
expansive player base.

Very keen for this. BoS joined this server knowing the wipe is
coming up. We see this as a great opportunity to learn the game
then start fresh with less mistakes and better general
knowledge!
